This is a pretty cool box
A variety of simulations (models) of various guitar amplifier sounds produced from a DSP chip in an affordable plastic box. Models don't sound exactly like originals, but good for the money.
These things always promise verisimilitude, but you'll never get the sound of a cranked 1967 tube amp out of a DSP chip. It also includes lots of weird synth noises I'd never use.
Posted Feb 17, 2006 - The first time I played with one of these, I wasn't super impressed. The amp models are close in some respects and not close in others. I was particularly struck by how accurately they modeled the negative sound characteristics of some amps, like the noise in the Soldano model. Couldn't they have left that part out? The more I play with one of these, and the more I audition competing units, the more I'm tempted to buy an M-Audio Black Box. ProVantage is offering a good price on this unit.
