Here?s exactly what you need to quickly hook up for Internet action. NETGEAR?s combination router, modem, and firewall lets you surf the Web and play computer and Internet games with all the speed, flexibility, and easy handling you could ask for. It plugs directly into your ADSL line for instant connectivity to network resources and the Internet, and it comes with NAT security. All this at a price that's kind to your pocketbook. NETGEAR?s ADSL Modem Router lets you connect two devices ? Ethernet and USB ? making it simple to link to your Xbox? or gaming console for up to 8 Mbps network speed. Setup couldn?t be easier; NETGEAR?s unique Smart Wizard interactive guide walks you through each step to set up your DG632 ? and Smart Wizard also automatically detects and makes the best connection to your broadband service provider. VPN pass-through makes it safe to connect to your network from home or office. The router's compact, sleek design looks great anywhere you set it up. minimize

2 Star ReviewThe reason I purchased this device was to replace ...

Strengths:

3-in-1 device, beautiful design, easy web management.

Weaknesses:

Lack of hardware specification, weak processor and small memory, so so speed compare to Effecient Speedstream and Zoom DSL modems, OK firewall, worst technical support I've ever experienced.

Posted Jan 24, 2005 - The reason I purchased this device was to replace my out dated Ugate router and an old Alcatel DSL modem when I upgraded my SBC DSL to the 3 Mbp / 384K Pro package. Before I purchase this item, I tried to find out some detail hardware spec from Netgear, unfortunately, you have to be a Netgear product owner to access technical support including information after you register. So I decided to buy one and try it, well, I made a big mistake by doing so. After I installed it, I found that this modem/router is about 110K to 250K slower than my old Ugate/Alcatel setup, I started to do a research try to find out the hardware spec, but I just couldn’t find any reference on the processor and memory count relate to this modem/router, when I contacted Netgear on-line support and asked for hardware specifications for processor and memory, after 80 days and about 7 e-mails from their overseas support plus 2 trouble tickets requesting information, the answer was to have me call the toll free support number because they can't even find the information internally. When I called the support line, I am told “the information you are looking for is proprietary obligatory”, the exact same words from the e-mail respond. Now I know the good reason why they wouldn’t give the spec info while their competitors do, because this Netgear DG632 might have a weak processor and less memory than their competitors’ products. Because of this experience, I decided not to buy Netgear products, I also advise all my clients be aware of Netgear’s poor support and suggest them to try others products such as Linksys and D-link who are honest in publishing their specs.

1 Star Review Heat Problems and terrible customer support

Strengths:

Excellent signal strength when it works.

Weaknesses:

Netgear ADSL routers are subject to overheating that will cause them to lose connection after a few hours, requiring constant intervention. Customer support is terrible (details below).

Posted Sep 15, 2006 - My Netgear ADSL router has been a problem since the day I bought it. Installation is easy and configuration straightforward using a web-based interface (similar to all major brand ADSL routers). But Netgear has two big problems: their ADSL routers have problems overheating and then dropping-reconnecting-dropping connection after a few hours. Not just mine -- have heard from others. Secod, customer service tries to put the burden on the customer, asking you to perform unnecessary add'l procedures and get back to them, then telephone an int'l number (if you're not in the U.S.). I feel they are trying to evade warranty repairs. Search the web: you can find many complaints about Netgear's service! Seems Netgear has farmed this out to somewhere in India, and they follow boilerplate responses to customer problems. Recommendation: based on asking other technical users and ISP, Linksys is great (but a bit more expensive). D-Link and LevelOne also have solid products, and better service than Netgear.

Thank you for the valuable feedback!
