MammonLord - (October 22, 2005) The biggest feature of the DGL-4100 is D-Link's "GameFuel" which automatically detects many online and network games and gives their packets higher priority. This helps prevent "lag" that may occur if your bandwidth is being used heavily. It also supports UPnP (in the latest firmware, which the device will update automatically) so non-gaming things like Internet telephones will work better too. It also includes a gigabit switch so, if your computers and wiring supports gigabit, you will get truly blazing networking performance. Moreover, if you want to hold a huge LAN party it delivers there, too. You can easily connect other hubs or switches to this router (it will automatically suppor

5 Star Review VPN ROUTER WITH 16 PORT 10/100

rogersoles - (August 10, 2004) See my reviews about the RV082; I bought one of each -- if you need the RV016 I feel it's a much better buy than the RV082 ($100 more, twice the number of switch ports; and a much more configurable number of uplink ports/options). If you don't need more than the RV082 stick with that model. This is by far a more commecial piece of equipment; and not likely needed by man home users -- small offices with several internet providers or network zones will find this a great buy. Again -- if this fits the bill of what you need (multi-interface internet connectivity, solid router, high bandwidth, vpn) -- BUY IT...

4 Star Review Not lightening proof!

dnicholas123 - (06/10/2009) Worked great until the lightening caused power outage. Then zip. D-Link support is $33 a call for out of warranty help. When you call tech support you get the same know-nothing offshore yahoos that used to work for Linksys (the biggest scam routers ever made). Box says tech support is 24/7. Support closes at 5 pm Pacific time. Oh well, fun while it lasted.

5 Star Review This BEFSR41 ver3 has worked flawlessly since NEW,

tws1961 - (04/11/2009) I don't even remember how long I've had it, 5 or 6 years. NEVER has any problems. Even in lighting storms. Of course my systems sit behind a pure protected (seriously protected) power supply. Never updated firmware. Everytime I check, no firmware revisions listed. If you can find a ver3 I'd grab it.

2 Star Review RT314: Problem router and problem vendor - AVOID

jelammers - (12/29/2008) The RT314 router worked well for me for several years until my ISP forced me to change to a newer cable modem. The new cable modem worked fine, but would not work with the RT314. The error message from the RT314 appeared to indicate insufficient ethernet signal strength. I checked Netgear's web site and found a newer firmware version. I loaded the new firmware but the problem and the error message were unchanged. I then called Netgear technical support. Support was lousy. There were undermanned, undertrained, following scripts and obviously located in India. And their supervisor had no authority to compensate me for the damage they did. They insisted that I downgrade the firmware to a specific older version. Being an experienced support technician myself, I was concerned because downgrading firmware is typically never tested by the typical QA department. But they insisted, so I did and it killed my RT314 ... which does not have a firmware reset switch. I called Netgear both in India and in the USA, asking them to replace my router. Their answer: "Sorry, there's nothing we can do." I asked them to please send me any old router to replace the one that they had killed, but they refused. I will never buy Netgear again and I will continue to tell my story. In stark contrast, the company I work for views technical support as an opportunity. Many of our big accounts can be traced back to first contact with our technical support department. WE will replace a product as many times as it takes. WE go above and beyond and that's the reason for our success. But as you well know, not many companies are so enlightened. Many companies view technical support as a purely evil expense. So speak up everyone, write those reviews, good and bad. And BTW, my new LINKSYS router works great!
