Description: The best of both worlds. If you receive your TV programming over the air on an antenna from a full-power station and do not have a TV with a built-in ATSC digital tuner, you are going to need a digital converter box in order to continue receiving programming.

4 Star Review The basics

Strengths:

Pass-thru, reasonable signal pickup, easy to use

Weaknesses:

perhaps sound quality

Posted 1 year ago - Overall this is a fairly good unit. Signal pickup seems reasonable and it has NTSC (analog) pass through when the unit is off. There is a signal strength indicator that can be useful in improving your signal reception (by manually adjusting your antenna). If you have recently tuned into a channel, you'll get the next hour of scheduling for that channel regardless of what channel your currently viewing. For the sound, I recommend setting your TV at whatever level works for you for your analog signal, and then setting the converter unit to its maximum volume output. I noticed that by setting my TV's volume too high, I ended up getting a background hiss. Very good picture quality. Zoom capability. Language and caption selection. Can be used to power off your TV if you TV is on its list of controllable devices. I would recommend this converter box assuming you're using a gov coupon. Otherwise probably better to invest your money in purchasing a TV or DVD player or something else with a built-in ATSC (digital) tuner.

5 Star Review Decent Digital tuner

Strengths:

easy to use s-video output signal strength meter

Weaknesses:

not a universal remote

Posted 1 year ago - I've had this for about 3 weeks, and am enjoying watching both the extra digital channels available. I live in a semi-rural area, and the signal strength is good, even with a cheap loop type uhf antenna attached. I will probably get a smart antenna at some point, but it does not seem essential.

5 Star Review Get this tuner!!!

Strengths:

Very easy to setup; excellent picture quality; analog pass thru feature.

Weaknesses:

None so far

Posted 1 year ago - How cool is this!! We have a old Zenith 15" color tv inherited from my parents. OMG!!...The picture has never been better and we are still using the old antenna. Setup was too easy, once I figured out the setup screen was on the AUX channel. READ THE GUIDE!! It gives very simple and easy to understand instructions. Previous reviews show that the persons did not read everything and go through every screen and option on setup! You can skip channels you don't want by setting up your favorite channels and then using the FAV button on the very simple and easy to use remote. I have 3 more PBS channels that we don't get on our other TVs that are hooked up to basic cable, and having a program guide on an old TV...amazing! Only having this one day, I can't find any weakness and do not anticipate any. I researched boxes for weeks and picked this one because it consistently got good reviews on various websites. If you don't understand or need a lot of high-tech stuff, this is the box for you!

5 Star Review Zenith DTT901 Digital to Analog Pass-thru TV Tuner/Converter Box

Strengths:

Very easy to setup; excellent picture quality; analog pass thru feature.

Weaknesses:

None.

Posted 1 year ago - Purchased the Zenith DTT901 at Circuit City with the government coupon so the net cost was $19.99. Installed it the same day and was amazed at the number of channels available and the clarity of the picture. Setup was extremely straightforward. All the necessary cables were included in the box. Unplug the coax cable to TV; plug it into the converter; connect the supplied coax from the converter to TV. Run the setup auto programming to find the channels; set the volume control on the TV to max and and volume on the converter remote to whatever is comfortable for you (this allows you to use one remote for controlling the volume without having to reach for the TV remote); and you're done. I have an amplified hi-gain, narrow band antenna on a rotor, so I was used to receiving good picture quality, but I am really impressed with the quality of the digital picture I get through the converter. I still use the analog pass-thru feature for the time being until Feb. 2009, to receive the regular analog channels, but I find myself switching more frequently to the digital channels. It has all the capabilities of digital television including the built in programming guide, closed captioning, signal strength indicator (very useful with a rotor setup), parental controls, ability to switch between 16:9 and 4:3 aspect ratio, zoom, and many more features. The remote is small, but the layout is very intuitive and easy to use even with big fingers. I based my decision to buy this converter on research I did of other favorable comments and I haven't been disappointed. I would definitely recommend this to anyone considering a converter purchase.

5 Star Review Does what it should

Strengths:

Good quality, good signal

Weaknesses:

More electronic clutter

Posted 1 year ago - I purchased this after finding out it's essentially the same as the top regarded Insignia box. (They're just branded differently.) Haven't had reason to use it a ton, but am pleased by the digital signal and improved reception over rabbit ears. Could certainly do without having yet another electronic gadget lying around for clutter, but this is definitely the better way to go unless someone wants to spring for an entirely modern TV that doesn't require one of these. The choice for prepping for the impending conversion of TV signals.

5 Star Review After much research on DTV Converter Boxes, this is the one!

Strengths:

No more snowy channels. Signal Strength monitor helps you direct your antenna for the best signal. Easy setup, but got to read and understand directions! More channels than I ever had. (9 vs 2)

Weaknesses:

May have to re-read directions to fully understand... If you have a poor signal (not likely) the picture breks up like a dirty CD... But adjust your antenna while you have the signal strength meter sho

Posted 5 months ago - I'm getting more channels than I ever had. (9 vs 1.5) I had one decent slightly snowy channel and one very snowy channel in New Hampshire. They were Maine analog stations. Our viewing options were limited. Now we get 9 channels and no snow. A must have!

4 Star Review Zenith DTT901 Digital to Analog Pass-thru TV Tuner/Converter Box

Strengths:

Easy to install, easy to use, has a zoom button to fill the screen

Weaknesses:

No DVI connection, no way to delete channels it finds that you don't want. Seems to shut itself off after a period of time.

Posted 1 year ago - Very easy to install. The instructions were concise and easy to follow. Not a lot of help on the controls of the remote, but with some playing found out what most do. But so far have not found out how to delete the channels that it finds that I don't want...like the religion and spanish speaking channels. Of all the channels it found, only 1 came in wavy with the sound distorted. The clarity of the picture and the vibrancy of the colours pleasantly surprised me! Definitely better than just analog programming with rabbit ears. I do need to find out why it shuts itself off after a period of time...is very disruptive when watching a movie!
