Near CD-Quality Audio
• Audio quality is phenominal compared to off-the-shelf modulators. • Switches on and off with your XM receiver. • Provides power to your receiver to eliminate cigarette adaptor.
• Installation can be a bit tricky. • Once you've set the station, that's pretty much it.
Posted Sep 14, 2005 - First of all, let me just say that I did not ever think a consumer-grade FM modulator could ever sound THIS good. I have trouble discerning the audio produced by this unit from a CD. Installation can be a bit tricky. In my case, the power line that I used was very dirty (electrically) so I had to install a capacitor that filtered out the noise. Make sure you use a switched power lead as to not drain your battery. I chose a lead from the fuse block from a fuse holder that was not being used. I mounted the unit under the transaxle/emergency brake unit between the front 2 seats. I drilled a hole just large enough for the antenna cable, power cable, and audio cable to go through, and placed the receiver in a position that covers this hole, so no cords are visible whatsoever. The antenna snakes around my car's interior and finally exits thru my sunroof. Works quite well. Make SURE you set the station with the LEAST stuff on it (e.g. the one with the most static). It is quite difficult to change the switch once the unit is installed if you put it in a location such as where I put it. The audio quality is SUPERB. I hear no static, and it is near CD-quality. I had been using a Belkin TuneCast II transmitter before, and it's a piece of crap compared to this thing. Basically, if you don't have an aux input on your head unit, this is your only option to get the same kind of quality as a straight aux input. I'm VERY happy with it. NOTE: If you have no idea what you're doing, or don't feel comfortable taking your car's interior apart as I did, contact your local car audio professional, Circuit City, or Best Buy for installation. It won't cost you too much.
