Posted Feb 12, 2005 - Tanita makes professional scales and body measuring systems that cost $1500-$2500. Supposedly we get the same technology in a very affordable personal model. I am actually quite impressed with this scale. Set up and use is very simple. I have gone through several bathroom scales in the past few years (which cost as much as this scale) because they have been inconsistent. On these scales my weight varies by as much as three pounds from minute to minute. The Tanita scale measures to the nearest 0.2 pounds, and from minute to minute it is right on. The reproducibility is perfect. I also believe it is accurate since it correlated extremely well with the scale at my doctor's office. Body fat measurement is one of those important measures that I have always distrusted. The instructions explain body fat can vary by as much as several percentage points depending upon the time of day and state of hydration. Even underwater weighing is not perfect, since it depends upon complete exhalation to get rid of as much gas as possible. Drink a can of carbonated beverage and you can lower your measured % body fat significantly. The measurement I get with the Tanita is very close to the measurement I got with skin fold calipers. I believe it is at least ballpark, which for a very inexpensive scale is fantastic.

Posted Aug 31, 2004 - I would highly recommend this scale for anyone who has a family with more than two people in the household. It has individual controls for up to four members, and it even has a separate guest control.

Posted Sep 2, 2004 - Tanita has been known to manufacture one of the best scales, made in Japan. It is easy to read with many features, design is great. Overall a good quality scale, I would recommend it.

Great Scale

Posted Apr 15, 2007 - Easy to use and easy to read display. Individual results recorded for four people. Besides the weight and fat percentage display, I find the hydration level feedback most useful, as well.

Posted Jan 15, 2005 - Overall, a very good scale. It accomodates not only 4 people in the household but also has a "guest" function. It can remember weight & body fat measurements to show a person's trending. A very good design. We have owned another Tanita scale and believe this newer model provides more accurate measurements for body fat.
