5400 dpi Optical - FireWire, USB - MPN: 2890301
Strengths: Scan Utilities work well and provide enough options to tailor to my preferences.
Weakness: Using the image enhancement features when scanning increases the scan time for a 35mm negative to almost 6 minutes even at 1350 dpi.
Overall, the scanner works well. It came packaged with both firewire and USB cables and manuals were clear as to how to set-up and use the software. The manual focus feature is a must since the autofocus doesn't seem to get images as clear as it should. It would be nice if it were faster, but I'm happy that it works.
For reference, I have a 1.25GHzG4 Powermac with the scanner connected to the Firewire port.

TopStrengths: Excellent reproduction of slide image.
Weakness: Experienced lengthly scanning times when batch scanning slides.
Highly recommend purchasing the Minolta dimage 5400 if your looking for a quality slide and film scanner that produces good results. Comes packaged with firewire and USB cables - nothing additional to purchase. Easy set-up and clear instructions has you scanning immages in minutes.

Konica Minolta DiMAGE Scan Elite 5400 Film Scanner
Strengths: Incredible sharpness
Weakness: Slow, but who cares?
I have a collection of detailed Kodachrome 25 slides taken with a Nikon F (yes F!) and Micro-Nikkor 55mm f3.5 shot at f32 anf f45. Very sharp slides. The Minolta captured every bit of detail. No grain to be seen. With Kodachrome 64, grain is evident, so perhaps the resolution isn't needed now (!). I scan at 13" x 19" and 360 dpi to print directly and the results are magnificent! Multiple-pass and ICE slow things down, but results are worth it. See at www.abc-digital-art.com.
