Best NIS yet

Strengths:

Lots of features; simply works; not a resource hog

Posted Oct 29, 2007 - My subscription to NIS 2007 was expiring, so I picked up the latest version. I opted for completely removing all Norton software from my computer ahead of time to insure that I would have no installation issues. This might have been overkill, but I thought it the safer thing to do. THis meant that I lost some of my firewall settings, but oh-well. Installation was a snap after that. A really nice bonus is that the product now incorporates the old norton password manager, which has been missing from norton products (except for Norton Confidential) for years. Updates were downloaded, and everything just worked. I hardly knew it was even installed, as the boot up time was only slightly affected. Setting up my firewall for my home network was relatively painless. This product is soooooo much better than the 2006 and prior versions!

Norton Internet Security 2008

Good internet security protection

Large overhead slowing down system performance

Posted 1 year ago - Norton Internet Security 2008 is among the leading internet security suites available on the market. However, it takes up so much system resources that users with a slow single core CPU system might want to consider a different internet security package from another brand. For fast CPU systems, Norton IS 2008 is a good choice for solid online security protection. I would not recommend it for system with marginal CPU performance since it could occasionally slow the computer to a crawl. Although Norton Internet Security 2008 is sluggish at time, it has never failed me in detecting viruses, backdoors, Trojans, phishings, and other malware attacks.

Posted Nov 29, 2007 - This product is so easy to install! I also love how the software automatically tells me if there is a security threat. This software takes the ease off my mind of having to always remember when to run a full system scan - it does the thinking for me! I would definitely recommend this product to others!

N.I.S. Now It's Safe Good product

Strengths:

Makes the internet a safer place, quick to remove unwanted items, Does not slow down system much when set up correctly in manual mode and engine is trained. Can work well in fully automatic including updates and all.

Weaknesses:

Their tech support, if needed. Can slow down some in fully automatic mode especially in the very beginning.

Posted 1 year ago - I have built several computers. Since available all receive a copy of N.I.S. 2008 loaded with Windows XP Pro. I've done only a few Laptops with Vista but they downloaded just the same. When installing, there are a few tricks and some settings to keep to. I've been happy with N.I.S. since early N.I.S. 2007 and I've tried many others. All failed to impress me. No, I'm not affiliated with Symantec in any way. Just a consumer building fast computers for people who don't like bogging down by security programs but need a good internet security solution. The internet is definitely no longer a safe place to browse with your information attached. I, for one, have been doing On Line banking and buying for the last 3 yrs thanx to N.I.S. with no surprises. I'm now on my newly built triple radiator(sgl, dble, & trpl fan) everything water cooled Intel Quad system that parts retailed for about $10k and the best insurance I think is N.I.S. to keep it running clean.

Internet Security 2008

Strengths:

Easiest install ever. Zero set-up glitches. No problems at all.

Weaknesses:

Password security module is slow and not very intuitive to an old guy like me.

Posted 1 year ago - I upgraded from NAV 2008 to Norton Internet Security 2008 and it has been a total success. Everything worked from installation to all the little details. I have been a NAV user for well over 20 years and things have gotten a little more difficult and problems have increased for the past several years. NIS seems to have resolved these issues. Symantec has put the Norton systems back on track again. Their quality has never faltered and now the implementation is back on top.

Norton Internet Security 2008

Strengths:

Solid protection against malware attacks; simple interface.

Weaknesses:

Not well integrated; slowing down PC system to a crawl if CPU is not fast enough.

Posted 1 year ago - Although Norton Internet Security 2008 is a solid security suite, it suffers the same problem of resource hog as the previous version. In a slow CPU system, it could bog down the whole system to a crawl by using too many system resources at time. NIS 2008 is fairly simple to use and efficient in keeping your PC safe from nasty viruses, adware and phishing scams. You cannot go wrong with NIS 2008 if you system could sustain the required overhead. You do have to renew subscription annually to keep the automatic live update service active on up to three computers.

Norton Internet Security

Posted 1 year ago - I've used Norton Internet Security for years. When I bought my new Dell desktop with Windows Vista pre-installed, Norton Internet Security installed seemlessly and has worked wonderfully. This version has some great new features - including a 'network' map feature allowing you to see any computer on your network. I highly recommend this product for any computer that has Windows Vista pre-installed. This version seems 'smarter' than previous versions and is working for me, not against me. It seems to know its job and sits quietly on my task bar defending my computer with a wide range of powerful tools...that have only slowed my computer down very slightly.

Norton Internet Security 2008

Strengths:

Complete Security for my Windows Vista Computer.

Weaknesses:

Must have Microsoft SP2 or above to install product.

Posted 1 year ago - I bought Norton Internet to use on all three of my Windows based computers. It installed very easy on my laptop which has Windows Vista installed. However when I tried to install it on my desktop Windows XP Home Edition I had a problem. It required the user to have Windows SP2 on there system which for some reason did not and will not install with my Windows Update. All in all I would say that this product is easy to use and install if the right Windows based product is loaded or can be downloaded onto your system.

Posted Apr 26, 2008 - I bought several Internet security software and I think NIS is the worst, it slow down my laptop very much and take too much memory. In addition, the installation is too long for me. Generally, I dislike this product and not recommended.

Posted Feb 25, 2008 - I have used the Norton products in the past. So I am relatively familiar with the user interface. This 2008 version is easy to use. It has more features that I really need. It has anti-virs, firewall, anti-spyware, etc. They update the virus and spyware signature files regularly. It automatically downloads the update - just like other products. Yes, there are many similar products out there but I would rather trust a well-known company. This 2008 version seems to take up much much less computer resources compared with their 2 or 3 generations ago. It comes with 3 user licenses. One downside is their high regular price. Fortunately, you can periodically find a very good sale (with rebates) on this product.

Posted Feb 25, 2008 - This is a well established name in virus protection, but the program noticeably slowed down system resources. An advantage is that Firewall, antivirus and anti spyware protection is included in one package, rather than using separate programs for each. This product was difficult to uninstall cleanly.

Posted Feb 10, 2008 - Unlike the previous version, Norton has really worked on the personal firewall and scanning your computer. Although, its an all-in-one package, it takes a long time to install and slows down the system booting to a great extent. Run some registry cleaner after its installed and then reboot your system. The booting after this step is back to normal. Overall, a very great work by Symentac.

Posted Dec 6, 2007 - While better than Norton Internet Security 2007 (I think it runs a little better) it still is a resource hog. The good thing though is that you can usually find it free-after-rebate, so you can essentially upgrade to the latest version each year for free.
