5 Star Review Nikon 55-200mm DX VR Lens

Strengths:

VR works perfectly. Sharpness, Price, Compactness/lightness

Weaknesses:

Plastic mounting

Posted Jul 6, 2007 - I just got this lens and I am very impressed with it. I'm using this lens on a D80 and I've tried it several different conditions, and it's given excellent results every time. The VR really works, and focusing speed is fast enough. I am glad Nikon made this lens and made it affordable. Highly recommended!

5 Star Review best vr zoom lens for its price

Strengths:

1 - light (lighter than 18-70) 2 - slow focus, feels slower than AF-S (50 f/1.8), but more accurate (compared to 50 f/1.8), focused correctly with first try 3 - nice kit lens feel

Weaknesses:

made in china.. but can't complain with its features and price!

Posted Dec 14, 2007 - This is a godsend light weight zoom lens, due to VR (Vibration Reduction), you can be free of tripod to take casual pictures at home or when you travel. With 18-55 Kit and this, I only need SB400 and sigma 30mm F1.4 to complete my Nikon D40 lens set. The pictures and memories you shot with this zoom lens are priceless, go for it if you are still hesitating.

5 Star Review Nikon 55-200mm VR Lens DX

Strengths:

VR, Sharp, great photo quality, and light.

Weaknesses:

Plastic Mount, not great in low light situations.

Posted Dec 14, 2007 - Great lens for the price. Can't anyone beat a lens at this price range with Vibration Reduction. Very great photos, just not great in low light situations, which is very understandable giving the price range. Cant beat it for the price.

4 Star Review Nikkor 55-200mm f/4.5-5.6 VR Lens

Strengths:

versatile lens, lots of zoom, fairly cheap

Weaknesses:

large, slow, a little too much zoom for a lot of situations

Posted Dec 7, 2007 - Just bought this lens for my nikon d40 and it's been great for outdoors shots during the day. for night shots, it's a little to slow without some kind of stabilization (the VR doesn't help that much) just because it's a little slow, especially zoomed out.

5 Star Review 55-200 VR... LOVE This Lens!!

Strengths:

Crisp, tack-sharp pictures; quiet; CHEAP; solid build; comes with hood and nice padded lens bag; produces nice bokeh; fast focus

Weaknesses:

Wish it were faster/wider aperture, but hey, that's why it's $200, not $1200!

Posted Dec 11, 2007 - I LOVE this lens. The quality of the pics it produces is surprisingly good given the price. It's pretty sharp throughout the entire range. The VR works INCREDIBLY well! I have a couple shots at ISO 1600 (no flash) wide open at 1/15" that are pretty dang clear. You can see some on my Flickr page (www.flickr.com/photos/gina4xoxoxo). Look at the pic of the dog named Chumo. The quality of that pic for the settings it used with the VR is outstanding and shocking. I would recommend this lens in a heartbeat to anyone looking for a zoom. I don't shoot a lot of landscape so this pretty much works as an all-around lens for me. The price can't be beat... you pay more for the same lens without the VR as this one with it. If you're reading this, you're obviously interested in this lens.... STOP READING AND GO ORDER IT!! :O) Actually, I just saw where you can add images to this review, so I am adding the pic I spoke of above of the dog and another one. Both obviously were taken using the VR.

5 Star Review Superb "VR" 55-200mm DX IF-ED lens

Strengths:

Vibration reduction (VR), light weight, price, 52mm front threads..

Weaknesses:

Plastic-made..

Posted Oct 22, 2007 - This is an amazing lens!! The vibration reduction (VR) significantly improves clearness of the photos while the shutter speed is 1/8 sec (probably also great +/- 2 stops). Two sample photos are provided, taken with 1/8 sec. It is light weight, therefore convenient for travel. 52mm from threads reduce the cost on filters. A superb lens sub USD 250. The only thing I would complain is the feeling of its being plastic-made.

4 Star Review 55-200mm f/4.5-5.6G ED AF-S VR DX Zoom-Nikkor Lens

Strengths:

range, precision made

Weaknesses:

haven't been able to determine any

Posted May 22, 2007 - Just recently purchased D80 camera. Needed lens that would cover picture taking of my son playing soccer & baseball as well as nature shots. As a tyro I think the pix's turned out real well. See for yourselves.

5 Star Review Large range for making up the D40 kit

Strengths:

well-built, solid and reliable

Weaknesses:

I've not found...

Posted Dec 10, 2007 - VR is good to have on the long end when no tripod is available, great warranty support from Nikon. The VR system works very very good, which can make up for the slow speed of this lens. I can hand hold racked out to 200mm at 1/80. If you don't need speed for sports or shallow depth of field, this is a highly recommendend lens, no doubt on it.

4 Star Review Great choice for Nikon D40x SLR camera

Strengths:

Good price for relatively low price

Weaknesses:

NA

Posted Nov 24, 2007 - This lens is a great choice of add-on for Nikon D40 or D40x SLR camera. Nikon also has a 18-200 mm lens, but the price is too high ($600-$700). With a budget of around $200, this lens is pretty much the only choice. Comparing with the Canon lens at the same level, the Nikon one has similar quality and better features, but in a much lower price.

4 Star Review Great Lens!

Strengths:

Fast Auto-Focus, Image Stabilization

Weaknesses:

focus hunts a bit in low light, plastic casing

Posted Feb 25, 2008 - I purchased this lens with the 18-70mm lens that came with my Nikon D40 camera. It is lighter and smaller. I really like the VR, it is possible to take a photograph from a moving vehicle.

5 Star Review Delivers for a low priced lens

Strengths:

Good depth of focus. Very stable for my shaky hands

Weaknesses:

Blurs at higher magnifications, but could be my fault

Posted Dec 14, 2007 - I am in my early stages of DLSR cameras. I wanted a lens that was similar to my SLR days. This one was it. The VR function greatly helps when one does not have a tripod on hand. The telephoto capability does allow for good closeups, but has a tendency to blur. This only occurs at maximum zoom, so it is more human error. I would recommend this as a starter telephoto lens for anyone looking onto DSLR.
