The Nikon AF-S Zoom Nikkor 24-70mm f/2.8G ED Autofocus Lens is a fast aperture standard zoom lens designed for photojournalism and general photography. Optimized for edge-to-edge sharpness on both the Nikon FX (full-frame) and DX-format image sensors, this lens also includes two ED (Extra-low Dispersion) elements and PGM aspherical lenses that help control chromatic aberrations while enhancing sharpness and contrast, even at the widest aperture settings. The Silent Wave Motor (SWM) feature provides swift autofocus with superior accuracy and ultra-quiet operation. This G-type lens does not feature an aperture ring on the lens body, resulting in a lighter and more compact lens. Aperture changes are designed to be done via the camera's command dial. minimize

5 Star Review Holy Cow!

Strengths:

Speed, size, fit (on a D300), sharpness - wow!

Weaknesses:

Pricey

Posted Feb 2, 2008 - New 24-70mm f/2.8 is all that and a bag of chips, to boot... Sharper than many of my primes, portable, fast lens has not come off of my D300 since I got it - this lens, the 14-24, and the 70-200mm f/2.8's are an unbeatable system...!

5 Star Review An Excellent Lens

Strengths:

Build, Sharp, Durable, Nice Bokeh

Weaknesses:

No VR, price

Posted Jan 31, 2008 - Take a look at its amazing MTF chart, and its price should be justified.Perfect walk-around lens for Nikon FX D3. I would like to shoot everything with this lens right now. But the only bad thing I have to complain is there is no VR.

5 Star Review A sharp and solid lens to recommend for all Nikon Pros

Strengths:

Durable, Sharp Focus, Strong Construction

Weaknesses:

Almost twice more expensive than its Canon counterpart

Posted Dec 10, 2007 - As with all nikon pro glass the construction build is of great quality. It is durable and easy to handle. The lens zooms really smoothly. Lens is extremely sharp especially in the center focus areas. The bokeh is wonderful at the wide apertures. The only true negative as usual, is the high price, almost twice more expensive than its Canon counterpart.

5 Star Review Nikon 24-70mm 2.8

Strengths:

Quality, sharpness, accessories

Weaknesses:

Price, no VR.

Posted 1 year ago - We have an example of a glass from the highest shelf. Zoom and focus rings are smooth, lens is well built, HSM is quick and accurate. Works great with my D300, is sharp from 2.8, doesn't have any distortions even at 24 mm. It comes with the soft case and hood, and 5 years warranty. In my opinion is worth the money and I recommend this product.

5 Star Review Nikon Nikkor Zoom lens ED AF-S 24-70mm, f2.8

Strengths:

Absolutely no barrel distortion from 24 through 70mm. Sharp. Weight is not a problem. It is worth the price.

Weaknesses:

Absolutely none.

Posted Apr 20, 2008 - I would recommend this lens to any professional or serious hobbyist. Although expensive, you do get what you pay for. The weight and size of the lens is not a factor as it balances well on a D3.
