jcb_001 - (April 19, 2004) I don't know what the other guy's problem was with "noise" from this lens - a lens doesn't introduce "noise" into a picture - a lens will be either produce a sharp picture with correct color and contrast, or otherwise it will introduce chromatic abberations and areas of blurriness. Probably the fact that the aperature is relatively small (4.0 - 5.6) lead to him not giving the CMOS sensor a proper exposure - hence the noise he experienced. His ISO could also have been too high - you get noticible noise with the Digital Rebel and 10d with your ISO above 400. I haven't had any problems with noise - in fact it takes better pictures at f/4.0 75mm than my 28mm-70mm 3.5-5.6 stopped down to f/

jgriffinhome - (August 05, 2004) I purchaased the 70-300G lens for use on a new Nikon D70. The lens is small, lightweight and has a wide zoom range. However, the image quality is only average (as expected for $100) and exhibits purple-fringing in many situations. I would recommend this lens for casual shooting situations only. Unfortunately, Nikon offers very low-end or very high-end lens choices only with little available in the mid-price range. I decided to return mine and purchased the 80-400VR zoom Nikkor.

jkrout - (January 28, 2003) As of early 2003 this lens costs about $200 more than the Canon lens with the same zoom range and no Image Stabilization (IS). Is IS worth the $200? I bought the lens in early 1999, with a Canon EOS Elan IIE body. Lately I have used it with a Canon D60 body. My uses include sports photography, rock concert/stage photography, and wildlife photography. The subjects are moving, and staying connected to a tripod is a rare luxury. Recall the tried and true adage about shutter speed and focal length for 35mm film: to achieve a stable hand-held shot, shoot at 1 divided by the focal length. For instance, using a 300mm lens, shoot at 1/300th second or faster. Using this lens at 300mm zoom, t

Nikon 18-200mm DX VRII from 42nd st photo
dongyi - (11/29/2009) What I want to say about 42nd st photo is that they would do everything to satisfy you! Before I purchased my gears online, I did have some research on the reputation of several online dealers, among them, 42nd st photo definitely have the best unbeatable price. Like everyone who would like the best deal, I went for the best price. But I have to admit it that I was a bit concerned that the lowest price might come along with the compromise of quality and service. Right after my gears (a camera body of D90 and a Nikon 18-200mm DX lens VRII) arrived, I asked my friend, who is a semi-professional to check the quality of the arrived gears. He gave me positive feedback after taking several pics and playing around with the aperture ring of my lens. In fact, we even tested the typical creeping problem commonly found in the first version of this Nikon 18-200mm DX lens, which fortunately is no longer present in the 2nd version I purchased. My friend didn`t believe how much I paid for my gears, and since I was very satisfied with the price and quality I got from 42nd st photo that I turned on my laptop and show him the website. He was surprised and I was surprised as well. The reason was that the price for the lens I just purchased shown on the website just went down for a further $30 dollars. Well, I felt a bit unlucky at that moment just like everyone would. I then wrote an email to the custom service of 42nd st photo and didn`t quite expect it that a representative named Junior would reply so fast. In fact, he even called me before his email but I missed it since I was travelling overseas and forwarded all my incoming call to my friend`s cell phone. He requested a contact number that he could reach me in the email and said that he would call me the next day. That was exactly what he did. He made an international call! He asked me if I was satisfied with purchase and if all my gears arrived safe and sound. You know, those questions you would get from a well-trained professional and at the same time feeling their care about you. He told me that he would be more than happy to credit me back the $30 dollars!!! I was so happy to hear that. This is what I believe every customer is looking for in a great service. Needless to say, I would recommend 42nd st photo to all my friends who want to get good price as well as trustable service. Their price is unbeatable and their service is beyond expectation! The reason I am spending my time to write this long review is that I was touched by Junior, the awesome representative from 42nd st photo. He made me feel that I wasn`t just doing business with them, but as he described,‘You take care of me, I take care of you’. I`ll write another review and let those still doubt about their service be convinced once I get the $30 back on my credit card.

Insearchof - (11/08/2009) I have had this lens on my XTI for about 4 months. I am not sure about all the photo terminology, but I can tell you the following: If you are taking shots of people, MAKE SURE YOU HAVE A LOT OF LIGHT. Otherwise, the picture will not be sharp. Also, when using the zoom (let's say above 90 mm) do not try to crop too much the pictures later on because it will not be sharp at all. Furthermore, please take two to four shots of the important photos of your life to make sure you get one with decent quality. So far, I have been getting 2 good shots out of 5 (as an average). I would not buy this lens again, and after seeing the results of other friends, I would much rather have the combination canon 18-55 is & 50-250 is (both together cost about the same than the Sigma) . Even though you do have to change lenses, the picture quality is just far superior... At the same time, you will see that 50 -250 is you can take amazing portrait shots...
who_knew - (09/18/2009) Having used Canon's 28-135mm F/3.5-5.6, the Canon 24-70mm F/2.8 L lens, and Tokina's 18-250mm F/3.5-5.6, I've finally found THE BEST "Everyday" Lens. I get more excellent usage from this lens than any other lens in it's class. It's sharp, fast and versatile. And, I've found that faster ISO settings make up for the fact it's a F/4 lens, so I've lost nothing at this F-Stop. In fact, I've several night shots and indoor shots that clear, and sharp representations of my claims. I highly recommend this lens to any photographer who wants only the best Canon has to offer.
