Pac-Man World 3

Strengths: Decent, colorful fun

Weakness: Mediocre platformer, horrible camera

Pac Man World 3 is another entry in the 3D platforming adventure genre for venerable old Pac-Man. None of these games have been really good, though they have generally been serviceable. The same can be said for this version. When it first hit the PSP in late 2005 it was a pretty good title graphically and showed off a bit of what the PSP could do (nice, sharp clean and colorful graphics). However, it has been surpassed in that respect by many games since then. If you are a huge fan of Pac-Man games or liked the previous console game (Pac-Man World 2) then this game fits the bill, certainly as it is similar to that one. The game doesn't retain much of its 2D roots, though. You will eat some pellets and chase and eat ghosts occasionally but for the most part it is a generic platforming game. The PSP version does provide some multiplayer modes (local only) that can all be run off of one game disc - so that is a nice touch if you have friends that want to get in on some casual fun. As in nearly every non-top tier platformer, the camera provides plenty of struggles in the main game - so much so that it makes the game frustrating at points for no reason other than the camera angle itself. Overall, though, if you are looking for a decent, cheap, kid-friendly platformer for the PSP this game is not a bad choice.

Pac-Man Is Back And He's 25

Strengths: Multiplay Modes

Weakness: Camera Problems

Pac-Man World 3 is a 3D platformer that starts out with Pac-Man celebrating his 25th birthday which is quickly ruined when trouble starts up during the celebration. You will run around 3D levels with the goal being to collect pellets & fruits so it is very nostalgic of the original Pac-Man yet played out much like any 3D scavenger hunt type 3D platformer and while it isn't all bad it doesn't really take the Pac-Man World series to new heights has it's very been there done that with such moves has stomping on his enemies to kill them, wonder where he learned that move from? One of the big problems has can be with many 3D platformers is the camera has at time it will feel like things are tougher then they should be because of the camera and because of that you will find yourself fighting with the camera almost has much as you will be fighting with bad guys.

I would lightly recommend Pac-Man World 3 to fans of Pac-Man and gamers looking for a 3D platformer to play that have played and finished some of the other 3D platformers on the PSP and is looking for more. To others I would suggest looking into Daxter or Ratchet & Clank Size Matters over Pac-Man World 3.

Pac-Man World 3

While I wasn’t born when it came out in the arcades 25 years ago, it’s difficult not to recognize a gaming icon like Pac-Man. It is this yellow, pellet-gobbling legend that has stolen many a quarter and many a heart of gamers determined to clear map after map while avoiding the touch of death from the ghosts that pursued him. Yes, 25 years is a long time and Pac-Man still manages to show up...
