4 Star Review Virtua Tennis: WT

Strengths:

lots of possible growth and options for your player

Weaknesses:

no online play

Posted May 4, 2007 - I’ve really enjoyed this title for the short time I’ve had it. Picked it up based on past reviews. Best part of the title is the pick up and put down-ability. Meaning that you can play for as long as you want w/o having to cut it short if suddenly your family needs to take out the garbage. I have Virtua Tennis for the GBA and this version for the PSP is so much better as you would expect. The graphics are smooth and load times aren’t too bad. The create-a-player and how you build up your skills/abilities are deep and fun (by playing mini-games). Controls are pretty simple to figure out. The right buttons are used for different strokes and the direction pad moves your player and where the ball goes (in general). This title has been discounted lately, “replaced” by VT 3 which I had heard doesn’t add much more to the World Tour experience. A definite recommendation and a no-brainer if you can find one at clearance prices.

4 Star Review Tennis handheld!

Strengths:

Lots of characters and variety Good graphics Effective responsive controls

Weaknesses:

Annoying menu music No Internet multiplayer

Posted Mar 31, 2007 - Over everything, Virtua Tennis offers a sport that is not represented much in the gaming industry and Sega brings this wonderful sport to the PSP. If you are a sports buff, or would like 1-3 sports games for your shiny PSP Virtua Tennis is a great bet for happiness. Pick it up, and play it till it is done.

4 Star Review Virtua Tennis: World Tour

Strengths:

Classic portable gaming done well

Weaknesses:

N/A

Posted Oct 31, 2006 - Virtua Tennis, though it has been out for over a year now, is still one of the best titles for the PSP. It provides a perfect portable experience based on the arcade/Dreamcast Virtua Tennis franchise. What makes it a great portable games is that it is easy to pick up and play, and can be played in small doses as time allows. Basically it is very similar to the Dreamcast version but with a few bells and whistles thrown in. You can choose to play Quick Match Mode, which is as it sounds - good for a quick game. There is a deeper Tournament Mode, and the even deeper main World Tour Mode. In this last mode you design a character and then play him (or her) up through the ranks. You can train by playing various minigames or play in tournaments. If I had to come up with a list of 5 PSP games a new PSP owner should buy, this would definitely be on the list as the Sports entry. And it is a great value as it can be found for $19.99 or less most places these day.

4 Star Review Check out this tennis game!!

Strengths:

Feels like the dreamcast version. World tour provides lots of time.

Weaknesses:

It's pretty much like Tennis 2k2

Posted Oct 4, 2006 - To make it short, this game is pretty much like all the other Virtua Tennis out there. That's not actually a bad thing, since all the virtua tennis's thus far have been pretty much quality games. If you like tennis and have a PSP, you might want to check this out!

4 Star Review VT--Challenging and loads of fun!

Strengths:

Nice graphics and movement in playing

Weaknesses:

A little challenging to learn

Posted Jul 16, 2006 - If you are a tennis freak like me you've just got to buy this one for the chance to play tennis in the palm of your hand. I like almost everything about it. The only drawback I've found is that it is overly challenging to get accustomed to all the moves...and how to use them correctly to put together a winning game. But, I'm very determined since I'd really like to give Roger Federer a good beating.

5 Star Review Virtua Tennis PSP

Strengths:

sweet graphics, fun arcadish tennis gameplay, easy controls, challenging ai

Weaknesses:

laggy multiplayer over internet and ad hoc, not enough characters, training becomes repetitive

Posted Jul 11, 2006 - Virtua Tennis is one of the best games I have ever played for the PSP. The graphics are fantastic and the gameplay is incredible. I own the xbox version and let me tell you that I found no major difference between the two. I love the xbox version and I love this one even more, it's portable. The career mode keeps you busy for weeks, attempting to improve your player and max out their attributes (trust me in the last phase you'll need it). The only real weaknesses are the lag in multiplayer mode. I tried ad hoc mode and I was about 6 feet away from the other PSP and there was still a noticeable lag. Despite that, this is still a great game and I definitely recommend it. On a buy/rent/discard scale, this is a buy, infact a must buy. This game should be in everyone's PSP collection.

5 Star Review Great game

Strengths:

-Nice vibrant graphics -Pick and play gameplay, no fuss needed -Price

Weaknesses:

Loading times. Slight hitches during gameplay due to streaming of the game content.

Posted Jun 24, 2006 - What can I say, it is a Sega game and I love it. I used to be a big fan of the original Virtua Tennis on the Dreamcast. The game plays great on the PSP with a very faithful reproduction of the it's console brethren. Graphics have that Sega feel to them and really add to the enjoyment of the game. I was pleasantly surprised with the controls using the analog stick. The analog stick responds very accurately to one's every thumb movement. Overall, I am very satisfied with the game and would highly recommend it someone who doesn't want to spend too much time figuring out things and just wants to pick a game and start jamming.

4 Star Review virtua tennis world tour

Strengths:

fun,excellent control,great multiplayer

Weaknesses:

graphics ok,more depth

Posted Jun 22, 2006 - If u are looking for a fun arcade like game, this is for you.If you are looking for a deep chess match like tennis,go someplace else. This is basic tennis, you serve and try to hit the ball away from the other player. Basic yet fun, doubles is a blast. When u first start you will lose alot, but once you pick up the games simple controls your off.Remember pong. The ball goes back and forth, back and forth.Trust me its fun.You can lob the ball or backhand it,,when the ball comes to just right,You can power hit it,you can also make those diving saves. The mini games are fun,and help you practice. The 4 player wireless is were all the fun is.If you want something fun and noy to deep, get it.Even if you don't like tennis fun= fun

4 Star Review Sega Tennis Arcade Action

Strengths:

+Good graphics +Arcade fun +Easy to learn, simple to master

Weaknesses:

-Basically just a simple evolution of pong -Load times can frustrate

Posted Jun 11, 2006 - Sega brings us a new virtua tennis, this time on the go. It is great fun to pick up and play a match. The controls are simple yet intuitive. The graphics are solid and sound is good. The only complaint that may be made that the gameplay hasn't really changed much since pong. Good fun. B

4 Star Review The best portable tennis game

Strengths:

Great graphics, control, career mode.

Weaknesses:

Load times. career mode limiting at time, annoying mini-games.

Posted May 31, 2006 - I've been a fan of the Virtua Tennis games ever since the Dreamcast - something about the simple yet deep controls always made this game fun. Sega has faithfully translated all of that onto the PSP now and it's great to just pick up and play this game in short bursts. The presentation is excellent and the controls are spot on. The one problem I have is the load times can be long at times and you have to play these annoying mini-games in order to advance to tournaments. But all in all, the best portable tennis game on the market.
