5 Star Review Jeanne D'Arc

Strengths:

SRPG, graphics

Weaknesses:

Historical fantasy.

Posted 1 year ago - Jeanne D'Arc is an excellent fantasy strategic, turned based RPG game that infuses the historical European figure in a fantasy world. The gameplay uses strategy elements and grid-based maps for battles and it rocks. The battle system is similar to other strategy RPG's but the options add a whole new level of dynamics to the gameplay. The fantasy story is great and refreshing while the graphics is very good. Overall, Jeanne D'Arc is a solid game. It's worthy of being in every PSP game library. It's that good!

5 Star Review Jeanne D'Arc (PSP)

Strengths:

Gameplay, graphics

Weaknesses:

None

Posted 1 year ago - Jeanne D'Arc is a strategy RPG that retells an alternate story of Jeanne D'Arc in a fantasy setting. It's not historically accurate but does provide hours of fun strategy gaming experience on a grid-based battleground. It is similar to Final Fantasy Tactics in terms of gameplay but without a job system. The game is developed by Level 5 and has great visuals and music. It is one of the best games on the PSP. Once you start playing it, you won't want to put it down. It's that good!

5 Star Review Jeanne D'Arc

Strengths:

One of the best PSP titles there is

Weaknesses:

None

Posted Mar 31, 2008 - Jeanne D'Arc is a fictional retelling of Jeanne D'Arc's battles against the invading English army with a Japanese anime-inspired style and complete with fantasy creatures thrown in the mix. It is a turn-based strategy RPG and simply one of the best for any system, definitely making it one of the very best PSP games yet released. Via stunning graphics and voiced cut scenes you will experience the story in between grid-based tactical battles. In addition to the main story missions there are plenty of optional areas and a deep skill combining system that adds plenty of customization to the battle strategy. You gain a wide variety of allies to use in battle as you progress through the story. Instead of learning skills as characters level up, skills are provided via different-colored stones that can be found or purchased throughout the game. You also have the ability to merge two stones to make a new one, which provides for a huge range of options for your party. There is much more to the battle elements that cannot be covered here. Suffice it to say this is a deep and engaging strategy RPG that is destined to be one of the classics of the PSP library.

5 Star Review Arc of Jeanne

Strengths:

Great story, gameplay, and graphics.

Weaknesses:

Not entirely historically accurate, to say the least.

Posted Feb 19, 2008 - Jeanne D'Arc is a fantastic strategy RPG that has rock-solid gameplay and great visuals. The story and characters, being based somewhat in Europe, are a nice departure from typical Japanese RPGs. While Jeanne D'Arc doesn't have the intricate job system of Final Fantasy Tactics, it is one of the best in its genre.

5 Star Review It dosen't get much better than this

Strengths:

Fantastic storyline. Great integration of FMV. Unique 'transformation' battle system.

Weaknesses:

Some plot-forced character changes.

Posted Jan 6, 2008 - This is hands down the best tactical RPG out for the PSP that I've tried. It's almost hard to know where to begin in singing its praises but a lot of the credit goes to a fantastic storyline. Jeanne D'Arc is set during the Hundred Years War between France and England, reimagined for a world which contains magic and monsters. The characters are deep and engaging and the use of FMV spices up the exposition portions of the story. From a technical standpoint, Jd'A is a strategic turn-based RPG, much like Final Fantasy Tactics and games of that ilk. In addition to the basics of any such system, it adds a transformation mechanic by which characters and 'power up' and wear divine armor to gain new abilities and stats. The more powerful the transformation, the more turns you have to wait until you can use them and they're all of a limited duration. A sort of 'materia' also makes it to J'dA in the form of skill stones. These can be equipped on characters to provide attribute bonuses and access to special spells and skills. There's also a quite deep combination system so you can fashion new stones from the meshing of two others. All in all, one of my favorite things about J'dA is that there aren't many 'MUST DO OR MISS' senarios when it comes to hidden items or paths or things like that. You won't need to spend your time playing the game with a 500 pg FAQ closeby just to make sure you don't miss anything important. This allows you to really be swept up into the storyline and the characters, and it's a hell of a ride. If there's any downside at all, it's that the intricate plot requires that characters will appear and disappear for stretches at a time. This means that you might spend time leveling someone up only to have them go poof on you (though this only occurs once for good). When characters return in due time, they are often underpowered compared to the rest of the party and might require some extra attention/protection during battles.

5 Star Review Jeanne d'arc

Strengths:

FF style gameplay, graphics

Weaknesses:

none

Posted Jan 2, 2008 - One of the better titles that have come out for the PSP. I’m enjoying this title more than the FF titles (they created Jeanne) I’ve played before on other systems…maybe it’s because it seems there its easier or has better flow than the FFs I’ve played. It doesn’t have the depth and options of the FF series, but that’s fine with me. So if you’re looking for a title that has the FF series flavor but don’t have time to grind one out, pick this up…call it FF lite if you need to.

5 Star Review Jeanne D'arc

Strengths:

Fire Emblem like strategy game, great graphics, great characters, challenging at times

Weaknesses:

n/a

Posted Dec 17, 2007 - Jeanne D'arc is a must own for any PSP owners. It is a strategy game much like Fire Emblem. There are a few main differences but the biggest one is that if a character falls in battle, they are not gone forever (which is good/bad). However, Jeanne D'arc has enough challenges in other ways. The story is great, the anime cutscenes are nice, and overall it is a solid game.

4 Star Review Very Good

Strengths:

fun game, interesting story, great graphics, easy to pick up

Weaknesses:

some frustrating battles, very limited weapon system, too many characters, unable to walk around such as in Final Fantasy games (no random battle)

Posted Dec 10, 2007 - Jeanne D'ark is one of the best RPG games to date. It has great graphics and a story that makes it a winner. However, the limited weapon system makes the game not as dynamic. Also, one gets to control so many units but most battles are limited to only half of all the units you get to control. Overall, it is a very enjoyable game.

Strengths:

Great cell-shaded graphics and videos

Weaknesses:

This game produced by one best rpg makers Level-5 which make this game enjoyable. The battle system is common as other rpg-tactics game, but the options and specials movements are gorgeous. This game is a must have for those tactician RPG its a very good story telling game. Recommended.

4 Star Review Strategy On The Go...

Strengths:

+Beautiful cel-shaded graphics +Tons of cinemas +Great music +Fun gameplay

Weaknesses:

-Silly story -Somewhat easy for strategy veterans

Posted Nov 20, 2007 - Jeanne D' Arc is RPG powerhouse Level 5's first PSP game, and it turned out very well. Based on the mythical/historical figure of Joan of Arc, the Japanese studio has spun a re-imagined tale of her life. Who knew that demons and monsters fought for England? Anyways, ignore the silly story and experience the fun and fast gameplay. Graphics are fun. Sound is nice. Overall this is a great value for the asking price. Recommended.

5 Star Review For France!!! Never thought I'd say that.

Strengths:

Gameplay, Characters, Colorful graphics, Music, Sound

Weaknesses:

Not many songs, its easy

Posted Oct 17, 2007 - Jeanne D'arc is a strategy-RPG for the Sony PSP. The game takes place in France in an alternate universe loosely following the Jeanne D'Arc historical story. The player plays as Jeane D'arc who happens upon a magical armlet which turns her into a warrior of God. She then goes on an adventure with her friends to liberate France from the evil English. The game is turn-based. On the player turn you can move, attack, cast spells, do actions with any of the characters on the map. The real addition to gameplay is the transformations which only last a certain number of turns and can only be used once each per battle. Some strategy takes place when deciding when to use the transformations. The graphics and bright and colorful which is a change of pace from other dark gloomy strategy-RPG's. The music is outstanding except for the small fact that there is only a handful of songs to the whole game. Cutscenes are animated. The cast of characters is varied and the majority of them are involved in the storyline one way or another. The game is around 25-30 hrs long depending on sidequests or no sidequests. I give the game 5 stars since this is the best RPG I have played on the PSP and might even be the best I played on a handheld period.

5 Star Review One of the best tactical RPGs since FF Tactics

Strengths:

Fun, characters, good story, gameplay, not tedious

Weaknesses:

None

Posted Sep 18, 2007 - Jeanne D'arc is based off a historical war of England vs France. Although this game is not entirely historical, with animals that wield swords and magic. It does not sound that interesting, but the character development, story, and fun characters, and gameplay make this game one of the best games on the PSP. You start with a few characters and over time you gain more characters. Each character has their specific weapon that they wield, but you can control their spells and how they level. You do not have to level each character. This is one of the best tactical RPGs of all time. It is by far one of the best games out on the PSP right now. If you have a PSP or you recently got one, get this game. I would even say that you should get a PSP to play this game if you don't have one already.

5 Star Review Great Strategy RPG

Strengths:

Interesting take on history, generous anime cutscenes, strong gameplay and customization.

Weaknesses:

Minor load times, would have liked optimization options.

Posted Sep 18, 2007 - This a perfect game for the psp, as it is addictive and easy to pick up and play. I enjoy strategy rpgs, but had yet to try one on a portable system. I am quite happy I picked up Jeanne D'Arc. This game has been a blast to play. The characters are interesting (though the text accents can be a little goofy), the animation and graphics well done and the gameplay very solid. Enemy AI is not ruthless, but is fairly competent in battles. I always like when no one "dies" but is only lost for that battle, though the limited number of turns per battle can limit strategy in some cases to a mad dash to the goal. Other nice touches are the "godspeed" attack system where a kill allows special players to go again, hidden treasure locations and reduced damage through group guarding. Shopping can be a bit of a chore as you go back and forth between buying, selling and equipping. It would have strongly benefit from an optimization or try on system. Though this is a minor complaint. If you have a psp and enjoy strategy rpgs, this is a must own.

5 Star Review Jeanne D'who? D'Arc, that's who!

Strengths:

Great Tactical RPG. Great graphics and story. great gameplay. great everything.

Weaknesses:

Buggy save system.

Posted Sep 14, 2007 - Jeanne D'Arc (Joan of Arc for you less francophile readers) is a greta game set ina historical alternate fantasy world. It has a great story and characters and gameplay. It's al you could ask in a tactical RPG and reminds me of the greatness of FFT. It has a slightly buggy quicksave system but otherwise it's a great game. Pick it up, you could do a lot worse when it comes to RPG's for the PSP.

4 Star Review Better than expected game by Level 5!

Strengths:

The game's deep battle system, mixed storyline of actual history and fantasy, and in-game graphics & animations.

Weaknesses:

What's up with "quick save and quit" setup? Why did they repeat the same mistake Blizzard made with their Diablo II?

Posted Sep 1, 2007 - I haven't played any of past games of Level 5 but I've read good reviews & ratings everywhere for this one. So I went "what the heck" and bought it. I'm more than pleased with the purchase. I know the game play decides the quality of the game, but in-game graphics are one of the BEST(if not THE BEST!) I've seen so far in PSP games. As you play, the game teaches you important points of battle mechanics you need to master in order for you to succeed in a battlefield. Anyway, I won't spoil things anymore. If you a fan of turn-based tactics games, you won't be disappointed with this one. Oh, and I would've gave 5 stars if it wasn't for its annoying quick save system.
