5 Star Review Not disappointed at all

Strengths:

Loud, small size, sturdy sub woofer case, very good frequency response, good up-mixing.

Weaknesses:

None, other than they aren't sold in the States anymore.

Posted 1 year ago - I also purchased the Creative GigaWorks S750 system when they were only a couple months old, and at $500 got a really good price (compaired to what the Creative Singapore site is selling them for ($799.00 on sale). To this date, I haven't experienced any of the problems with the subwoofer that others are reporting. In fact, stupid me, I placed the subwoofer under my computer desk and started using it as an ottoman within a couple weeks. That was 3 years ago now and it still kicks a**. Even the satellite speakers have been knocked of the desk a time or two and still sound great. I am using them with an Audigy 2 ZS Platinum Pro, but never try to max out the volume...maybe that's why everything has lasted more than 3 months.

Strengths:

BASS, volume (LOUD and quiet), good surround, upmixing works decently (mp3s still sound like crap, but its SURROUND) ;)

Weaknesses:

As stated elsewhere, lotsa wires, also at low volumes not really fine control, use your software volume cause these change by a few decibels using hardware control.

Posted Feb 2, 2005 - These speakers are awesome, the fact that I got a great deal back when they first came out didn't hurt. I chose these over the Klipsch offering because there were notable issues with the ProMedia 5.1's at the time and because I like my Audigy 2 (non ZS). :( I have no regrets about buying these speakers, and if I do upgrade to better speakers, it will be using the same sub, see ExtremeTech article on why I would EVER upgrade.

5 Star Review Creative Gigaworks S750 7.1 Speaker System

Strengths:

Spectacular clarity and bass, very low hiss, volume (LOUD and quiet), good surround.

Weaknesses:

Posted May 19, 2006 - This speaker system is one of the best. It has perfect sound quality, loud yet not overriding bass and ideal highs. I highly recommend this system for any movie fans or gamers... My only complaint is that the one of the speaker stands was delivered damaged.

5 Star Review That 7.1 is so hot right now

Strengths:

control of individual speaker volumes, spectacular clarity and bass, very low hiss, highly adaptable mounting options

Weaknesses:

its fun to find a place to put the sub, speaker wires could be longer, would have been nice to have RCA to miniplug adaptors in the box

Posted Jan 12, 2006 - I hooked these up to my HP Z555 media center PC directly from the 7.1 RCA plug preouts using RCA to miniplug adaptors, which I had to purchases, would have been nice to have those in the box. The control box allows you to set the levels of each speaker set individually so that you can balance out the performance of the system relative to their placement in the room. The provided wires could have been a bit longer, the 3m, 5m and 10m wire sets sound awefully long, but when you try to hide them along the walls they get short fast. I tested them with the digitally remastered version of The Empire Strikes Back - spectactular. The star detroyers might as well be in your lap (the 42" plasma doesn't hurt either). The bass is so powerful and perfectly delivered that its hard to think it could be better or more realistic. As mentioned above, they are okay for music. perfect reproduction and it sounds wonderful, but its almost like driving a sports car on a turnpike, just not making the best use of their abilities. That being said, i wouldn't have purchased anything else. I can't see myself being anything but in love with this system for a decade at least.

2 Star Review Buyer Beware...

Strengths:

7.1 Sound is the wave of the future, a 7.1 home theater system is $1000+. THX Certified Compatible with all X-Fi sound cards

Weaknesses:

Remote Control Lacks Advanced Features you'd expect from this price range. You must have a fairly up to date sound card for 7.1 sound, may not work with your on-board sound. No Digital/Optical plugs

Posted Jan 9, 2007 - Buy a extended warranty if at all possible... Creative Labs forum is full of RMA's and complaints of this products subwoofer going bad after 2 months. Also complaints of worse customer service, apparently you have to ship this to them at your own expense, however if there is any problems after the first RMA they will send you a pre-paid shipping label.

Strengths:

Loud

Weaknesses:

Don't last more than few months

Posted Sep 10, 2005 - I had these speakers for about 6 months when they started with this horrible crackling sound like some speakers blew or something. I RMA'd them after a while (about another 6 months) and had to pay $115 to ship them back myself (thanks Creative). Got a new (refurb) pair and they just died after 2 months (and now I'm out of warranty). So basically I paid $500 for speakers that lasted about 14 months. No more Creative products, thank you!

5 Star Review Excellent 7.1 THX speaker systems

Strengths:

Powerful, low hiss.

Weaknesses:

N/A

Posted Aug 22, 2005 - I connect the speaker system directly to my onkyo THX certified A/V receiver. I also use the monster cable THX certified speaker wire instead of the suppied cable from creative. To connect the subwoofer, you need to purchase a RCA to mini-plug audio cable. I bought one from monster cable (THX certified as well). I use the STAR WAR EP 2, T2, and Phantom of Opera DVD to test out the system. All three produce great sound effect and delightful music. I have Bose Acoustimass 6 Series III and I think s750 is as good or maybe better than my Bose system. Highly recommended to Hi-Fi fans.

1 Star Review It is worthless speaker system

Strengths:

I don't see yet

Weaknesses:

It will last long.

Posted Sep 9, 2006 - I think it is important for me to let you know my experience with S750 system. If this system can last few months, it will be fair. But, this system is worthless to buy. Please think of other system. I purchased this system in Jan. 6 through internet. It worked for 3 months. It turned died in April. I called Creative Customer svs. They gave me RMA number for return and exchange. It costed me more than $43.00 for shipping charge. I returned it at beginning of June. Creative shiped the replacement on Jun. 29. I received it on July 2. I kept it uninstalled because I need to move a new house. Since we can not find out a good house, I installed the replacement system on Aug. 30, 2006. It was died again on Aug. 31 which it lasted less than 24 hours. I called Creative customer svs again. The agent said that it was out of warrenty period (give me a break). She needed me to give her credit card for charging me $12.00 with telephone assistance. It turned out that the control ipod has a problem. They issued me another RMA number for return and exchange. They said that they will send me a replacement for control ipod. At same time, they hold my credit card for $20.00 if I don't return the broken control ipod. Please think about it before you buy this system. It will give you to much headache and stress. To get through their customer svs will give you too much stress. If you have time and money to waste, you can buy this system. Otherwise, please don't even think about to buy it. I swear above information it is true.

5 Star Review Excellent value for the money

Strengths:

The bass mainly, the medium & high notes and of course the loudness !

Weaknesses:

Miles of wires ! Volume control is not responsive, only analog input and supplied cable works for Creative products only.

Posted May 7, 2007 - I have been having the system for about 22 months. The quality has been outstanding, better than Onkyo HT-SR700 I used to own. My setup is connected to DDTS-100, which is also a nice product. DVDs sound life like and music is awesome, especially at high pitch. The bass was a bit overwhelming out of the box, but after I calibrated with Avia DVD, everything is just wonderful. My biggest gripe is the volume control. You have to press the button several times to turn the volume up/down. Some of the users have been unlucky in getting a lemon and/or bad customer service from Creative. But several times it's due to user error and can be prevented. This thing does get a bit hot after prolonged use. The solution is to have a little space around it and the wires should be kept far from the heat sink. I experienced it in the first month and gave it a bit of space. Now a days it's hardly warm even after watching 2 DVDs in succession.

1 Star Review Sounds great till it breaks in 3 months

Strengths:

Sounds great with games.

Weaknesses:

The bass shakes the circut board apart.

Posted Jan 2, 2007 - My rear speakers started to glitch when there was heavy bass after about 3 months. I emailed my prob and got an answer suggesting wiggling my plugs because maybe I had a bad connection at a plug. Haha

5 Star Review Gigaworks Blows them away!

Strengths:

Ease of setup, great sound, high quality speakers

Weaknesses:

Can't locate spekaer stands online anywhere for the us Rear speker cable is long, but I needed another 5 or 6 feet. Luckily cable ia easily extended and I didn' have to cut any ends off.

Posted Sep 10, 2006 - This was an upgrade to my existing Altec Lansing system, which I loved, but this has more power and is a complete 7.1 system so I'm good for now and the future!
