Strengths:

great sound, good bass, perfect size, very nice for the money

Weaknesses:

we actually destroyed a set of these by playing them at 80-90% volume on a daily basis

Posted Apr 22, 2005 - these are great speakers for small spaces and larger ones as well and i prefer klipsch products to the majority of stuff you find at your average retailer. it is possible to blow these out (like many speakers) but it takes more than any normal gamer or music enthuist will probably put them through. that said after we destroyed the first set of these we replaced them with the exact same product.

5 Star Review A VERY GOOD BUY!

Strengths:

Clean bass sound, clear sound reproduction, great price

Weaknesses:

Thin speaker wires, power switch on subwoofer

Posted Jun 26, 2006 - Bought this speaker about a week ago for less than $100 on sale. Expected to get a basic (cheap) system for occasional use. Got a lot more than $100 worth. The system is LOUD! The bass does not sound muddy (garbled) when the volume is pumped up. You don't have to pump it much. I set the subwoofer about 30 percent of max position. There is a 10 o'clock position on the dial that the manufacturer recommends the dial be placed for PC use. I set the volume about 25 to 50 percent of max position. You have to listen to the system to understand why this little gem is THX certified. The sound is crisp and clean. Cons - The only blemishes are the power switch which is located on the subwoofer and the thin speaker wires. The subwoofer is a 10 inch cube that weighs 16lbs. You will want to keep it off the desk. So, the location of the switch is inconvenient when the unit is on the floor. The speaker wires are cheap. You could get noise from electro-magnetic interference with these. Haven't had any problems as yet. I plan to buy another set even with the small blemishes. They sound great!

5 Star Review Great little set

Strengths:

Too many to list, see below

Weaknesses:

Volume controls stick out quite far, and I fear they may break after enough fiddling

Posted Apr 28, 2006 - I've only been using this set for a day or so, but I absolutely love them - this was worth every penny! First off, the set just screams "I don't screw around". With the speaker covers off the entire set is a straight flat black. Everything is much larger than it looked in the picture (the sub is the size of my entertainment center sub!). These things just look like quality, without the glitter. The set is also heavy (not a bad thing), and the speaker stands are made of metal (no el-cheapo plastic). Sound wise, this set is light years ahead of the Creative crap I had previously. The bass is deep, and the highs are clear. I'm no audiophile, but these without a doubt provide the best audio quality of anything I've used in the last 10 years (since I had my first PC). The Aux in and Headphone jacks on the one speaker are a nice touch, although I haven't tried them out yet. In summary, if you're looking for a serious set of 2.1 speakers (my work area setup doesn't allow for 5.1) this definitely fits the bill.

5 Star Review Worth More Than the Price

Strengths:

Great imaging, awesome and accurate bass, crisp and accurate highs and mids

Weaknesses:

On/Off button on the subwoofer

Posted Apr 14, 2007 - Klipsch has been a trusted name in high fidelity for years and years. These are perhaps the best speakers you can buy in the price range. The bass is accurate, not some annoying bump. You can listen to anything from rock and/or roll to classical to techno. It doesn't matter, these speakers do it all. The imaging is wonderful, with a very large 'sweet spot', and on certain material the sense of space is wonderful. Listen to classical in a concert hall, you'll get the feel of the hall, listen to techno and make the walls bleed. I put my hand in the subwoofer port, expecting a short tube, typical of tuned-port design. The tube curves upward. This is Klipsch, and they have a legacy of designing bass-horn systems that PUT OUT. The Bose system costs $500-- it has electronics to enhance the stereo field, and weak bass. The Klipsch costs less than $200. Whether you're listening to Radiohead or Journey or classical, you don't need any stereo enhancement with these. The imaging is so good, the frequency response is wonderful, and I am consistently amazed by these speakers. I've been playing music that I haven't listened to in years, just to hear it anew on these speakers. A very worthwhile investment, you only win, here.

5 Star Review Awesome speakers

Strengths:

Awesome sound Booming Bass

Weaknesses:

On/Off switch on the back of the sub

Posted Dec 29, 2005 - These speakers sound incredible, I never thought my music could sound this good. I have the subwoofer turned if about 1/3 of the way and it is plenty, I can still feel it 20 feet away! I highly recommend them.

5 Star Review Suitable for serious listening

Strengths:

Clarity, stereo image, solid bass

Weaknesses:

limited vertical axis high frequency dispersion

Posted Jan 21, 2006 - It's pretty amazing to be able to buy such quality for a relatively small amount of money. These are really well balanced hi-fi speakers. The clarity and stereo imaging are excellent and the bass response is truly amazing: very deep and clean, not boomy at all. I highly recommend them. The only drawback is the limited vertical dispersion of high frequencies. I successfully resolved this by putting the speakers on stands so they are at ear level in seated listening positions. I also had to bend the stands so the speakers fired straight instead of up at an angle. but for $125, I consider this a minor point since these speakers are comparable to ones at 3 - 5 times the price.

5 Star Review Buy these ones!

Strengths:

Deep, smooth, tight bass response. Crystal clear highs and mid-range. No muddy tones. THX Certified! Awesome sound for computer speakers. They can really be cranked up without sound quality loss! They also have great response at very low voume!

Weaknesses:

Build quality could be a bit better for the price although build quality has no effect on the sound quality.

Posted Dec 29, 2005 - I love these speakers I listen to all types of music and movies on these and they all sound great from Classic Rock, And Acousics - to Action Movies, and Rap. Do make sure to turn the Subwoofer to about the 10 O'clock position when listening to music and most of the way up for action movies and such. Klipsch has allowed you to turn the bass way up for low volume listening and movies. Do not attempt to crank the sub past 10 o'clock when playing music it will distort and sound muddy. I have these paired up with A creative X-Fi sound card and the upgrade cables available on Klipsch's site for possibly the cheapest fully certified THX system you can get today.

5 Star Review I have owned many, if not most 2.1 setups for the pc, and you can't do better than these

Strengths:

accurate sound reproduction, nice balance in frequencies between sub and satellites, good quality build, tight bass

Weaknesses:

power switch on the sub, mini jack connections to the speakers, cheap in box wiring, not much...i'm nitpicking

Posted May 31, 2006 - I have owned many setups over the years from surround sound, to simple 2.0 speakers and all I really wanted recently was something to play music on my pc. Out of everything I ever owned on the computer these are best sounding of the bunch. I have owned altec lansings, creative, logitech, nothing compares to these after you "break" them in. I have even owned the much hyped logitech z-2300's and those don't hold a candle to the Klipsch. I mean if you want something extremly bright sounding and loud with weak mids, but boomy, over exaggerated bass get the logitechs. I mean they sound okay for certain music like rap and dance with the thumping sub that tends to roll off too soon. But if you listen to rock with guitars and drums the logitechs are too weak. You've gotta have those upper and lower mids that the sub tries to compensate for and fails miserably. I am not an audiophile by any means, but I know what good speakers sound like and you can't go wrong with the Klipsch. Every type of music I threw at it sounded crisp, clear, and accurate and the sub blends beautifully with the satellites which alot of speakers simply cannot do. You can go and buy the creative inspire 3800's with the shiny aluminum casings and the remote but thats what you are spending your money on....bells and whistles! Klipsch takes a no nonsense approach by giving you just the features you need and using the resources to put the money into the components rather than the bells and whistles and it shows even the first time you turn them on. If you have had lesser speakers and have been happy with them for the most part...when you hear these they will send a chill down your spine...they are that good and sound about as good as my huge cerwin vegas I have for my home system. I have rambled enough. If you want quality and awesome sound from your pc get these speakers...no doubt about it. Don't walk...run to your nearest best buy or wherever you can find them because they are awesome!!! If you really want to bring the sound out of them upgrade to a x-fi sound card...what a pair....ENJOY!

5 Star Review Can't Beat them!

Strengths:

EXCELLENT Sound, Perfect Clarity, Smooth Bass, nice speaker design. LOUD!

Weaknesses:

Power switch on sub, no remote (Not that big of a deal)

Posted Jul 16, 2005 - I picked these up a few days ago after deciding between the Logitech Z-2300's and these. I couldn't be any happier with these speakers. I like the "professional" look of the speakers as opposed to loads of silver coating and shiny plastic found on most high-end desktop speaker systems. If you don't need 5.1 and you're looking for a dynamite pair of desktop speakers to blow out your friends eardrums with...pick these up as soon as you can! These get loud and stay clear...I'd buy them again.

Strengths:

Amazing sound quality. Attractive styling. Line in jack conveniently placed on side of right speaker.

Weaknesses:

No remote, no treble control. "Off" button is located on back of sub.

Posted Jun 3, 2005 - The Promedia 2.1's are among the best 2.1 PC speaker sets available. They sound absolutely fantastic - clear, crisp, and accurate. Unlike most PC subs, the included sub is capable of being musical. It isn't overly boomy or muddy like competing products from Logitech and other companies. The speakers look great, both with and without the speaker grills. I would have liked to see a few functional changes - first, an on/off button on one of the satellites would be appreciated. The on/off button is located on the back of the sub, which is much harder to reach. Secondly, a remote control would have been a nice addition. Finally, a treble dial would be nice, although I can't say I've missed it that much. Overall, these are just fantastic speakers. They are pretty much as good as PC speakers get - short of hooking your sound card to a receiver and using home theater speakers, you aren't going to do much better. If you regularly use your PC to listen to music, these are a must buy.

Strengths:

Very clear sound (hi, mid, and low). Line in (for MP3 players). Classy looking and quality built.

Weaknesses:

You will be annoyed with inferior systems other people listen to music and movies on! Runs a bit hot (normal).

Posted Jul 8, 2002 - The 2.1 setup is not as full sounding as the 4.1 or 5.1, but if space is limited, this is the system to get. The best 2.1 system I've heard (and I go to a tech school).

5 Star Review Love these speakers!

Strengths:

Very clear sound, plays loud, and the THX sounds awesome. Speaker wire can be upgraded to Monster cable through Klipsch.

Weaknesses:

Cannot turn off unit from the speaker, it can only be done through the sub-woofer on the floor.

Posted Sep 14, 2005 - I spent a lot of time looking for a good 2.1 speaker package and this delivers. I don't have a lot of room on my desk so I couldn't get the 5.1 set. I love to play my music loud and these are clear and the bass adds power to the music. Also, I like to play video games like Halo every once in a while and this speaker set separates the enhanced sound well over a standard 2.1 speaker. Highly recommended and great qaulity.

5 Star Review ProMedia 2.1 Speakers (160 Watts, THX Certified)

Strengths:

Great sound for 2.1 system! Volume controls on one of the desk speakers.

Weaknesses:

Bass could be a little stronger for my taste, but it's still acceptable.

Posted Mar 6, 2006 - I was initially interested in a 5.1 system for my high-end Mac (Quad). However, I didn't really like the idea of four speakers cluttering my desktop so I started investigating 2.1 systems. I read several reviews and they mostly agreed that this was THE system to get. The total watts is way more than most other comparable systems. For me the choice wasn't difficult - this was the system for me. After the purchase, my opinion hasn't changed one bit. Everyone that comes over comments on how great they sound and look. They sound great playing games or music and they're easy to set-up.

4 Star Review Awesome system for PC

Strengths:

Amazing sound: clear highs, full mid-range and rich tight bass. Amazing power too. The headphone and auxiliary input jacks are very convenient. THX certified is good.

Weaknesses:

Flimsy wires, and upgrading to Monster cable is costly. The speakers themselves are more expensive than other 2.1 systems.

Posted Jan 30, 2006 - This system is awesome for a PC. A very worthy investment if you are willing to spend more than a hundred bucks on a 2.1 system. Currently I am still testing this system with my on-board audio card and am thinking of getting a better sound card. Heard that it would be able to reveal the "actual" power of this system.
