Does everything advertised. Fairly easy to set up. powerful enough that they're louder than I can scream, can't hear the phone ring, wouldn't know if someone was breaking into the house!
you have to attach the speaker stands, meaning you have to untwist the cables and send them through the hole in the stands. Some cables are as much as 23 feet long (rear center speaker).
Posted May 23, 2003 - Very nice. Better than I expected, especially for the price. Keep in mind that these are analog though. If you have the speakers at max volume and your sound card at max volume, you can hear that traditional analog effect if nothing is playing - over amplified sound that looses sound quality. Reducing the sound card volume (software-based) helps. Subwoofer has a 6.5" long-throw driver for good bass. It's powerful enough for normal users - can make your floor, chair, and mouse vibrate, even if not at full bass power. Volume and bass control is through a wired switch. It's a little different, but convenient. Headphones plug into the switch also. All wires plug into the subwoofer and it has a switch in case you only have a 5.1 surround sound card, the sub can replicate the 6th speaker. 6.1 surround is awesome. The extra speaker helps create a more balanced transition. For example, if you play a game and have something fly around you...you can have the sound move more smoothly from side to side without jumping from the left to right speaker in the back. These speakers meet my needs for creating my personal computer theater. Should work well with a TV also. I don't see where you'd need a higher end system unless you want to have sound as though you were in at a live performance in an arena. For the price, I'm amazed. Only weakness is that they aren't digital. Sound quality is more preserved if you use an entirely digital system, more noticable at high volumes.
