Useless product
Finally PCI-e x1 Ultra320 controller.
Compatibility issue; only 250MBps for PCIe x1 specification.
Posted Oct 24, 2007 - When I installed Adaptec 29320LPE adapter without any device connected to it, Windows recognized and I installed driver successfuly, but.. When I connected hard drive to this adapter, Windows doesn't boot. I can access boot menu by pressing 'F8', but after choosing even "Safe mode" it doesn't start at all. The same problem was when I pulled out all adapters and hard drives, everything from my PC, just leave 29320LPE and hard drive + ASUS DVD - no luck to start Windows Installation disk. I can see only "Checking hardware..." message and process stopped. Motherboard's BIOS is up-to-date. Cable is U320, terminator is U320 also, no other devices on the cable. My Sony SDX-500C doesn't respond to commands and ntbackup and sony tape drive tool doesn't work - just hangs when attempting to access tape drive on 29320LPE. Today morning I bring my adapter (29320LPE), cable w/terminator, hard drive to my work and connected just adapter to Intel D945GTP motherboard, which doesn't have any other cards installed and system didn't start after POST. Just hangs. After updating BIOS to the latest version - the same thing. So, if on my home motherboard (Epox 9NPA3 Ultra) it start without hard drive, on Intel motherboard is doesn't start at all, even without devices connected to the adapter. Have no clue... :( The same problems many people experiencing with this adapter, check this out.. I contacted Adaptec technical support and they couldn't resolve an issue. --------------- Finally, after almost 3 monthes I got a solution - another motherboard which is ASUS M2N-E AM2 NVidia 570 Ultra chipset. I installed adapter into PCIe x4 slot and it works!!! So now I can recommend this product but you'll never know if it will work with your mobo.
