deximo28 - (April 07, 2006) I did a fresh install of Windows XP on my i-Ram and it boots up very quickly. I own a Raptor and it's fast, but not as fast as the i-Ram. The feature I love the most is the silence. There's no ticking, spinning or vibration sounds made when accessing data. I can't wait until Giga-Byte comes out with a faster interface and more memory space. The possibilities are limitless with this valuable add on to my desktop.

zancarius - (June 24, 2004) I originally purchased my Ultra133 TX2 (rebranded by Maxtor) to boot a driver larger than the BIOS was able to recognize (older hardware and the manufacturer no longer produces flash upgrades for this particular motherboard). This card worked flawlessly under FreeBSD 4.8 for over a year and a half and the performance was outstanding! I now have the card plugged into a box installed with FreeBSD 5.2.1, Gentoo GNU/Linux, and Windows 2000 Server and it works very well under each OS (be certain to compile the driver for this card INTO your kernel if you're running GNU/Linux and the boot device is attached to the card, otherwise IT WILL REFUSE TO BOOT). Although the card is more or less retire

DonChino - (February 09, 2005) UPDATE: I have not given a NEGATIVE review on ANYTHING I have purchased to date, but I felt this product merited an immediate update because I simply have had TOO MANY problems with this card in various configurations. I have had it installed in a Dell Optiplex GX300, HP X4000 Workstation, and about 2 other GENERIC (ABIT and MSI) PCs and I always seem to have problems getting the machine to BOOT, READ/WRITE CORRECTLY, or even LOAD WINDOWS properly. I have used the Matrox drivers, Promise Drivers, etc but the KEY ISSUE seems to be (in my case) when you mix this card with SCSI connectors or drivers. I build SERVERS and WORKSTATIONS which usually have a SCSI connector (As BOOT) and this seems

Promise Technology SATA 300 TX4302 does not recognize hot-plug esata disk
foolme - (09/02/2009) I purchased the Promise Technology SATA 300 TX4302 after reading Tom's article and other descriptions. The card was deployed on a Tyan mainboard running Windows 2003. The TX4302 recognizes internal-connected SATA disks, but failed to recognize hot-plug eSATA disk. I tried with a different controller (SiI based) on the same system and it readily recognizes the hot-plug drive, so was another XP system with a different SATA controller. I tried the TX4302 on another XP machine, it also failed to pick up the hot-plug drive. The user manual claimed it could support all SATA 2.5 disk, but the Promise Technology site for TX4302 listed only about 3 eSATA disks that were tested to be "compatible". Tech support of Promise Technology "rationalized" the disk was not on their "compatible" list, and claimed it might be a defective card, but RMA would not ship a replacement without a credit card. (And would not give me a credit card number for me to ship the card back to them.) As of this writing, there is no resolution. I also tried a stress test on the TX4302 in the Windows 2003 system - multiple xcopies on one disk, and running compression on another disk. The system hung.

wgballardjr1 - (08/18/2008) Works great for me! Got Vista installed and it loaded up fine. I didn't even have to use the drivers on the disk included as Windows Upgrade found the drivers online and automatically installed them.

whytegold - (08/16/2008) This card is advertised for HARD DRIVES ONLY! Promise has OTHER cards if you want to hook up atapi (CDRW/DVDRW) devices, but NOT THIS ONE! This card runs multiple hard drives flawlessly as advertised, & that is ALL it is advertised for.
