4 Star Review Korg MicroKorg Synth /Vocoder

Strengths:

The sound is awesome. Plenty of varied sounds to edit and play with

Weaknesses:

The microphone is weak and does not seem to pick up very well, Hard to position. I recommend purchasing a headset mic for the Vocoder

Posted Aug 17, 2007 - The instruction manual is a bit intimidating for the begginer. ( as I am). I am trying to deciper the manual and would love a " Korg MicroKorg For Dummies" handbook. But as I have experimented with it ( so far ) I am learning what each knob does but the combinations are endless. I am having a great time learning. Well worth the money I paid for it.

5 Star Review Fun and Useful Audio Gear!

Strengths:

The MicroKorg has so many options to tweak the sound, and it sounds wonderful. It looks cool, and is extremely portable.

Weaknesses:

The keys are very small, but after a while you get used to them. With so many buttons, knobs, and button combinations; it takes a while to learn.

Posted 1 year ago - I would recommend this keyboard to anyone interested in playing live shows, or recording MIDI into a computer. Overall, this keyboard is outstanding. It looks amazing, and produces awesome sound. These sounds can be be easily manipulated and made into your own with all of the tools offered in this compact unit.

4 Star Review A Great First Synth

Strengths:

Plethora of features of mold your sound, performance knobs for on-the fly adjustment, fat analog Korg signature sound.

Weaknesses:

Cryptic 3-character display, miniature keys, text is difficult to read in low-light, vocoder isn't that great.

Posted 1 year ago - For people interested in just turning knobs and seeing what they do to the sound, then the microKorg is for you. While it may not be a great absolute beginner's synth, it's a good entry-level one with lots of features, great preset sounds and just plain fun to play around with. The first thing people mostly notice is the abundance of text on the microKorg itself as the unit only uses a couple of knobs on the top right hand corner to control a ton of parameters by cycling the EDIT 1 and EDIT 2 knobs. The text is small and difficult to read in low light conditions, especially the green text on black background. The keys are also fairly small and will most likely discourage anyone with large hands. The microKorg is in direct competition with the Alesis Micron with it's full-size keys are great synth engine. The preset sounds are impressive as the pitch and mod wheels are sturdy and provide just enough resistance. Overall, the microKorg is a great beginners synth for people that want to get their feet wet in synthesizers. It may lack full-size keys and not be as intuitive as the Alesis Micron, but it holds its own ground with its signature Korg sound.
