To my disgust McAfee had discontinued the VS 7 Pro ...

Strengths:

Everything, I even got an immediate 30% discount for an upgrade for my old purchase of their 2002 Anti Virus at their website and you still get a rebate form if you purchase the retail ver. wherever.

Weaknesses:

Unbelievably beautiful, excellent, worth every dime, program with all its utilities is WORTH EVERY DIME and HAS NO WEAKNESSES but has no firewall if you need one. I've DSL and Wireless net firewalls.

Posted Nov 6, 2003 - To my disgust McAfee had discontinued the VS 7 Pro's support so rather than use their sickening new online version I have returned to Norton to find software that meets my needs and NORTON HAS IT. I got mine for $69 at the Norton website. Their 15 day free trials further convinced me to purchase the Norton SystemWorks PRO 2004 which by the way has better and more utilities than the old or new McAfee VS Professional. Customer Support - Nobody else offers any more online or phone support either, just try to get McAfee support. **The EXCELLENT ALMOST 350 PG. MANUAL COVERS EVERYTHING YOU COULD NEED** Using peer to peer it can be used to scan, copy, etc. your other networked computers from one place. Norton offers a 60 day money back guarantee. The "upgrade" is a full retail copy and doesn't need the old disc or installed program and is easily reinstalled if you upgrade a hard drive or to a new computer and the Express updates is great updating all week including weekends with 10 or more updates at a time.(With the new McAfee VS 8, you may end up having to re-install the OS - I had that problem on TWO different computers which had been running a previous version of McAfee.) Remember there are big differences in RETAIL and OEM copies in MORE than just price. The Symantec rebate also tells you how to use your OEM McAfee virus program before you remove it or your McAfee disc to get your rebate so find and read the rebate form at symantec.com.

Posted Jan 31, 2004 - I found Norton SystemWorks Professional 2004 to be extremely easy to use. One of the main reasons that I purchased this product was because of Password Manager, which I absolutely love. Password Manager remembers your password info so that you don't have to.

Strengths:

Installation was a snap and seems to work well so far. I purchased the professional version because it came with Norton Ghost and Performance test, this was a huge savings.

Weaknesses:

None that I know of, however I have only had SystemWorks installed for a few days.

No program is absolutely perfect but NSW Pro is a ...

Strengths:

NSW is a good overall utilities package. They have automatic updates which is great especially for getting the latest virus definitions.

Weaknesses:

The package is getting bigger every year so if you have space problems with the older and smaller hard drives, you may not be able to load everything.

Posted Jan 17, 2004 - No program is absolutely perfect but NSW Pro is a good package and usually comes highly rated in all the computer magazines. Look for the rebate deals which can bring the price down alot.

Standalone products for performing registry repair ...

Strengths:

Integrated set of tools

Weaknesses:

Standalone products are far superior especially in the area of registry repair, disk optimization, and virus protection.

Posted Jan 27, 2005 - Standalone products for performing registry repair, disk optimization, and virus protection are much superior. in analyzing my registry, for example, it identified the problem but couldn't fix them whereas PCTool's Registry mechanic was able to fix it immediately. Would recommend other tools such unless person just wants an single console. Also, when unistalling, product leaves a lot of "footprints" on the system and in the registry which should be cleaned up.

Posted Jan 1, 2004 - The Norton 2004 Systemworks Professional Edition to me seems one of the best PC programs for system maintainence and virus integrity protection. The one button checkup which was started in the 2003 edition seems better and easier in the current 2004 product. I feel that for the value Norton Systemworks 2004 is worth it. You also get one year of virus protection which alone pays for the product.

Most of the INCLUDED programs work well.

Weaknesses:

Considering the name of the product, it should include Norton Internet Security Professional. Product activation is a big weakness. Better integration with Internet Security Professional 2004

Posted May 24, 2004 - I've been using Norton Systemworks Professional since 2000 when it first came out and for the most part i've been happy everytime i've upgraded each year to the newer version. The program I have had each year is with Norton WinDoctor which seems to cause more problems then it fixes. Everytime I have run WinDoctor my computer has seemed to run slower after "fixing" the problems. Since Norton Internet Security and Internet Security Professional have come out, I have been firm believer that Norton Systemworks should include Norton Internet Security and Norton Systemworks Professional should include Norton Internet Security Professional considering that to buy both you are having to buy Norton Anti-Virus with each, although Internet Security Professional comes with the Professional version.

Same strengths as NSW 2003

Weaknesses:

Resource hog, NAV 2003 is better and NSW 2003 does NOT require activation. Updgrade not worth it unless you want Basic Ghost program.

Posted Aug 2, 2004 - So basically, I have used NSW 2003 for a couple of years now. Its a good product. I have been faithful to Symantec for my antivirus needs for 6 years now. They have never let me down. But when It comes to Norton System works, I say stay with NSW 2003. NSW 2004s' activation just isnt worth what little you gain. NAV 2003 is better, sure the NAV 2004 comes with adaware removal, but I want an antivirus that concentrates on virus's. Adaware or spybot is what I use for adaware. and they are free. Stay with NSW 2003, upgrade not worth it unless your wanting GHOST/
