1 Star Review Caused fatal Crash

Strengths:

It crashed the computer before I could find out.

Weaknesses:

Crashed my computer and wiped out all data.

Posted Aug 7, 2006 - I installed Norton Systemworks 2006, I enabled the feature GoBack, and the computer promptly crashed and burned. I couldn't even get it started again. I brought the computer to a repair place, but they weren't able to rescue my data. It seems ironic that a product which is supposed to help keep your computer run smoothly should wreak such havoc. Nothing I've encountered before, no virus, no worm, no malevolent hacker, has ever caused me such severe damage. A quick search on the internet shows that this is a rather common problem with the program. I'm in awe of Symantec's business savvy. Every virus writer tries to harm your computer, but Symantec manages to charge you money to do it.

1 Star Review Firtst but Last Symantec Product

Strengths:

NONE

Weaknesses:

Bulky, Useless complecated function, unreliable , fix error disdable all machine

Posted Dec 23, 2006 - First time but will be the last time to buy anything from this company. I would give -100 score if there is. (1)Extremely Slow scan, I thought it will demage hard drive if used for long time; (2)I installed on one machine then on second (license allowed), uninstalled then install several time. all machine locked. pop up RED fix error message; (3)VERY BAD customer service, you need to search all place on website then you could find use less customer support. (4)Such bad product, you need to renew OR re suscribe periodically to pay extra money, cost very high. very simple other anti virus software will do same thing with only less than $20; (5)Customer service is very bad, I sold this, after 3 month VERY UNSATISFIED USAGE (I bought at $70 retail box). However Symantec declines to transfer license. RIDICULUS, RIDICULUS. EVEN Microsoft will allow license. What does Synmantec think they are? Doing business in such a meager and narraw minded short sight. No wonder they have such a bad product; (6)Advice to all buyers, try CA s-trust or MAfree. Much compact and cheap . Better performance than this.

4 Star Review Same old thing

Strengths:

N/A

Weaknesses:

N/A

Posted Oct 13, 2006 - Its pretty much the same old systemworks it's always been except with a few features from Internet security added. It gives you nag screens to run windows update so don't buy it if you are running a Pirated copy of windows. and when it comes to most of the other features if you are one that waits until you have a problem before you bother to read the instructions this is not for you . It is a product for Adults that pay attention But really not much new. If all you need is a antivirus and one button check up go back to Systemworks 2003 they still support it and even my 7yr old can use it

2 Star Review Systemworks & Norton in General

Strengths:

N/A

Weaknesses:

N/A

Posted May 11, 2006 - It seems to me that not only is Norton giving us less for the money, but it's products are no longer top of the line. I ha ve used Norton since it first came out, initially to recover lost data. Now I am using it as Internet protection and virus and adware protection. Frankly, I have found free products online that do a better job. Symantec ought to give Peter Norton back his name...it's becoming a joke.

1 Star Review Systemworks 2006

Strengths:

None

Weaknesses:

Can destroy a partition table

Posted Nov 16, 2005 - I use a swappable hard drive for my C: and D:. Norton SystemWorks 2006 GoBack module infects the MBR of all drives (I have 3 extra drives) such that no other (non-GoBack) O/S's will see the partitions. Uninstalling Systemworks failed to completely remove GoBack from two of the drives thus destroying their respective partition tables. I never even got to evaluate the rest of the product.

1 Star Review Norton Systemworked 2006 Premier priced

Strengths:

none over my prior 2004 Professional version

Weaknesses:

No advanced Ghost, not worth the $30 more than the normal Systemworks and it still doesn't include Internet Security. Symantec is removing programs from their suites and charging the same price.

Posted Oct 23, 2005 - This is by far the worst Systemworks yet. It really doesn't have any new useful features than the Systemworks Professional 2004 I was using and will be using instead. It actually has less features (no Professional version of Ghost or Anti-Virus Professional) than prior versions and yet they call it Premier? I have been upgrading every version since 2000 and will not be buying another until Symantec stops gouging customers with lackluster products. They also should include Internet Security in the package if they want to call it Systemworks.

2 Star ReviewSupport is miserable. I had to install, uninstall ...

Strengths:

Lots of features, but the number which load on start-up slow that process and appear to slow the general operation of the PC

Weaknesses:

Installation takes a long time and the program may not work properly

Posted Jan 15, 2006 - Support is miserable. I had to install, uninstall and reinstall the entire program and all other Symantec programs on my PC just to get the updater - LiveUpdate - to download and install virus definitions. That left one program for which LiveUpdate could not download updates. The Automated Support Assistant was no help and it can take up to a week to get a response from the support techs via email. One tech, who clearly had not read or understood my problem, suggested 6 possible causes of the problem and 8 possible solutions, including downloading program updates and uninstalling and reinstalling all my Symantec programs. I have had to start the email support process all over again and may finally have found a tech who can read and understand the problem. Hopefully, he can solve it. Anyone without an unusually high tolerance for delay and obfuscation should avoid this program

2 Star Review Norton SystemWorks 2006 Premier needs work

Strengths:

Norton utilities, Norton antivirus, one button checkup

Weaknesses:

norton protection center, Norton ghost

Posted May 7, 2006 - I have used Norton Utilities and Norton AntiVirus for more than 15 years with no problems so I thought I would try Norton SystemWorks 2006 Premier. After installation, Norton Utilities and Antivirus performed wonderfully as usual, but now there's this Norton Protection Center that pops up every time I boot to try to turn on automatic updates and deposits a red X icon next to the system tray. I don't want auto updates and I don't appreciate being nagged each time I boot up. Next I tried to copy my small system drive to a much larger drive using Norton Ghost's "copy my hard drive" feature, but destination drive would not boot machine. After most of 2 weekends waiting in the chatroom que (about 20 hours) I learned that the destination drive needs to be unallocated or unformatted. Chat and email are free and phone support costs $. It took a week to get a reply to my first email only to advise me to review the FAQs for Ghost. I have yet to receive anything from them replying to my reply. I have other questions but don't have the time to wait for chat and who knows how long I'll wait for an email reply. Will stick with Norton Utilities and Norton Antivirus and bagtech support and the other stuff.
