Partition Magic 8.0 (Symantec/Norton)

Strengths:

Easy to install. Easy to use. Works well.

Weaknesses:

None found so far.

Posted Jun 18, 2007 - I have used earlier versions of Partition Magic and wanted to get the latest version to take advantage of all features. This product installed easily and worked exactly as I expected it to. I keep both a WIN XP and DOS partition on my computer. This software allows me to manage the partitions easily and without loss of information.

Strengths:

Doing what I want in the partition.

Weaknesses:

Price is too expensive.

Posted Apr 4, 2007 - If the price of this product can lowest, then it will be the best buy. I mean the price if lowest than $40. Now, the price is between $50-$70. It is kind of expensive.

mostly magic

Strengths:

easy install, easy to use, does what it should

Weaknesses:

backup disk on floppies is very outdated

Posted Jul 29, 2007 - In general, Norton products are great. I use Norton Internet Security everyday. Partition Magic is far less sophisticated and needs an overhaul if it wants to be in the big leagues, but it does what it should and it's pretty easy to use.

Did not use long enough to find any weaknesses

Posted 1 year ago - Reinstalled a 500 G hard drive from crash. Original Windows XP reinstallation only sees 137 G on hard drive. (SP1 will but I had only XP). After install I used Norton Partition Magic 8 to gain the full 500 G. Easy with clear instructions.

Posted 1 year ago - The suport person took control of my PC and moved my ued space from one drive to another. This was done in a very professional manor. I am very staisfied with the program.

Partition Magic 8.0

Posted May 19, 2008 - I bought Partition Magic to make better use of my 250 GB external hard drive. I bought a back-up utility at the same time. Using the two in combination I now have my entire drive image backed up in case of failure. Great program.

Posted Nov 10, 2007 - PartitionMagic is a godsend! It allows you to resize your partitions without compromising data. For instance, if you wanted to dual (or more) boot without reinstalling your current OS, using PartitionMagic will facilitate this. I love it! Though it is a little pricey (before rebates, that is) this cost is more than offset by its usefulness.

Posted Oct 27, 2007 - Norton Partition Magic 8.0 is a must if you install operating systems and change partitions often. It can resize partitions of Windows and Linux, and repartition will be extremely painful without Partition Magic. It has not been improved for a long time, but it's simply because there's not much to be improved. Its performance is very reliable too.

Partition Magic 8.0

Strengths:

Repartition and/or re-size partitions with data and or OS. Works with Linux as well. Re-order partitions. When a partition is reduced in size, it will compact the data. Supports different file types.

Weaknesses:

On some old computers, this software and others, will not run as the bios may not support disk DMA from DOS. Will load to DOS but applications will not run. Not a weakness of the product.

Posted Oct 20, 2007 - Need not install, boot to the CD and complete operations from DOS. Good for a Tech on the go. When a database is involved, put that on a small partition. This will make all disk seeks relatively short. Note: The silk screening of the disk makes it out of balance. High speed CD drives can vibrate a lot. Adding some tape to to balance the disk would be worth while if you are going to use frequently. Have used earlier versions of PM and was impressed with the product. This version will probably not support Vista as the file system is probably changed. If Vista is a target system, do the research. Competitive products may be Vista ready. When MS introduces new file system types, you need to get new product versions.

Norton Partition Magic 8.0

Works as advertised; gui is out-dated

Weaknesses:

No Vista support

Posted Aug 23, 2007 - I have used this for a while, and am quite happy with it. I picked up another copy for a newer machine, only to discover that it would not work with Vista, or Windows Home Server ;-( It was a dual-boot system with XP installed, so I was still able to used it. I oftentimes am re-doing partions in the event my C: drive gets too big. I like to make drive-images of my smaller C: partition. This product has not changed since it first came out in 2003, so it is in need of a GUI overhaul. It's also not overly intuitive to use, but once you understand what it can do, you're good to go!

Posted Jun 27, 2007 - I am long time partition magic user although in emergency I rather use paragon partition manager, for simple work and preparation of harddrives is Partition magic mostly sufficient, but care should be used if you editing partitions with your data as in one mistake you can lose it all.

Partition Magic 8

Strengths:

Easily create/split/merge/copy/resize/move partitions. Can convert ntfs to fat32

Weaknesses:

pricey, cd isnt bootable, need floppy drive & disks(obsolete) if you want recovery disks

Posted Jun 3, 2007 - This version is a little bit outdated(not compatible with vista, uses floppies for recovery disks), but it gets the job done. The gui is easy to use, a few clicks and your done, the computer reboots to windows xp's console/text mode(or dos for win9x) and starts resizing/copying/etc, wait a while, computer reboots again and its done. It also comes with bootmagic, a bootloader that allows you to boot multiple Os's(only one at a time) I would not recommend this if you dont know what your doing, its easy to wipeout your data & also to make windows not bootable. Its a little bit pricey most of the time,but every so often you can find it cheap after a few mail in rebates.
