System Mechanic 7 Professional (Full Product)

Strengths:

Does a very good job of cleaning registers and clutter on your PC

Weaknesses:

No Ownwer's manual; CD provided only lets you download the software from their website (takes forever to download)

Posted Apr 15, 2007 - This my second purchase of the System Mechanic software line. I was previously using version 5 of this product. I originally purchased the product becacause I was having problems with my PC. It was locking up frequently. After running a scan and cleanup of my hard drive, the problems went away. So this product basically saved me a couple of hundred dollars and a visit to the Geek Squad. Right now an online retailer (starts with "B" and ends with "Y") has a rebate promotion on this software. After 2 rebates, you can pick this up for Free (yes free!!). The promotion runs through 4/18/07, so there's still a couple of days left. The only complaint I have with this product is that the CD that comes with it only contains the user id and serial number. it takes you to the iolo website, where a full download of the product is then required (35 megs). So if you have a dial-up connection, expect to wait 5+ hours for the download to complete. I don't know why iolo decided to do this. The version 5 had the software executable on the CD itself. BAD move for iolo. But other than that I am happy with this product. It has a lot of features, including spyware, virus protection and firewall. But if you already have software for these components, it's advisable to not load them from iolo, when installing the software suite. Two thumbs up!

Shoddy Product

Strengths:

Free after rebate

Weaknesses:

No customer service, malfunctioning software that does not perform what it should

Posted Jun 17, 2007 - System Mechanic 6 was a good program - it worked fine. I wish I could say the same about this so-called upgrade. It screws up the registry and changes things that don't need changing, and fails to tune or fix up the things it should be! Do yourself a favor, get the "obsolete" version of this; at least that one works.

previous versions were better

Posted Jun 13, 2007 - SM 7 Pro disappointed me a lot. V6 was much better. It includes many of the IOLO products together. The idea is nice to have all the maintenance tools under one roof however the problem is that they aren't the best. It eats CPU like anything. The programs are buggy. Occasionally, the system hangs for no reason. May be some updates would make it better.

Great Software at a great Price

Strengths:

System Mechanic does it all. It fixes problems on your computer that other software doesn't. It is not bloatware or software that is too big, and uses too much computer memory.

Weaknesses:

Non so far.

Posted Oct 24, 2007 - I love the system dashboard where you can see at a glance the computers performance. What's even better is you don't have to know anything about a computer as it has wizards that walk you thru all your computer repairs. It has a pc cleanup wizard, a PC accelerator wizard, a PC security wizard, a finally PC repair wizard. It is a all in one software, and it really works.

Iolo System Mechanic 7 Professional

Strengths:

A potentially useful and comprehensive set of disk/operating system utilities, antivirus, firewall and data recovery software that has been highly recommended in the past.

Weaknesses:

The software is problematic to get it running correctly, and it is made more difficult due to extremely poor technical support.

Posted Oct 15, 2007 - The software seemed to install correctly, but slowed the boot time considerably (Windows XP Pro). As of now, I really haven't found the need and a little hesitant to run all the disk/operating system utilities, but I do like the interface. However, I have had nothing but problems getting the firewall to work correctly. After numerous calls to Iolo tech support, I finally gave up and reverted, at least for now, to the XP firewall. If you're computer savvy, this might work for you, but for me it was a big headache. Way too many things to figure out, change, and identify, way too much time on the phone...ending in frustration.

Not a Resource Hog

Strengths:

Ease of use,quick installation, plus a lot of features in one package, doesn't use a lot of system space

Weaknesses:

Took some time to get used to after using another product for so long

Posted Oct 10, 2007 - I have been using McAfee and Spysweeper for years along with Fix-It utilities.Needless to say, all these programs took up a lot of system space.McAfee also seemed to bog my system down when using and getting updates.I have a relatively new and fast computer and didn't understand why it did that. This System Mechanics 7 Professional combines all of those products into one application that is easy to understand and use.It did take a few days to get used to it, but it is now a breeze.My computer seems to be running faster now and have had no problems. Now I won't have to worry about going to different places to do maintainance and security scans. It is all here.I was hesitant at first to switch to a brand that I was not familiar with, but now I am glad that I did.All systems go.

horrible software

Posted Dec 2, 2007 - I made a mistake when I bough this software. It is completely useless. My computer became a mess after installing this software. It shut down my computer and I had to reboot it. Fortunately, I did not lose any data information in the computer.

Sytem Mechanic 7 Professional

Strengths:

Many jobs in one application.

Weaknesses:

No manual. Download necessary for Vista compatiblity.

Posted Aug 30, 2007 - I have used system mechanic for more than five years. I started from System Mechanic 5 and now iolo released 7, which is compatible with Windows Vista (download update necessary, though). It performs many kind of PC maintenance jobs very well, including, cleaning, boosting, protecting, etc. The change of interface was a little confusing at first, but it didn't take long before I got accustomed to it. Very good product.

Posted Nov 26, 2007 - I had an earlier version of this (not the pro) and figured I'd upgrade. Bad move. All this did was slow down my computer and cause me grief. If you want to troubleshoot from the manual, forget it, it's not included. Don't buy this. Keep your earlier version or wait until they fix the bugs. Not even worth it for free.

System Mechanic Professional 7

Strengths:

Ease of use,quick installation

Noticeably slow down the machine by its Antivirus

Posted Nov 21, 2007 - System Mechanic 6 was a good program, it worked fine. System Mechanic Professional 7 is made up of 3 basic components, the system tools, antivirus, and a firewall. It screws up the registry and changes things that don't need changing, and fails to tune or fix up the things it should be!

iolo System Mechanic 7.0 Professional

Compared to some other softwares it works good..

Doesn't work good with Vista

Also as always been their customer support is very bad....If you already have System Mechanic 6.0 and are much impressed with it and trying to upgrade to 7.0 , please don't do that mistake..

System Mechanic 7 Pro review

Strengths:

Low price for a bundle of software! Good software to wipe hard drives

Weaknesses:

No Manual! Vista owners, need to download it from their website.

Posted Oct 9, 2007 - Its a good all in one software package! I bought it to wipe out my harddrives before I threw them away to make sure that it is clean. It took forever to run it, a bit of resource hog, so I ran it overnight! One of the problem that I faced was it did not have any user manual.There are other cheap or free software that do the same thing. I installed the anti virus and firewall, but Iam not sure how effective they are. The inteface looks a bit complex and will need some time to get accustomed!

Comparable with other Registry Basic Software

Strengths:

cleans out registry , scans system for clutter spots.

Weaknesses:

no manual, kinda slow to install,

Posted Oct 4, 2007 - Overall, I just purchased this at Staples and installed it but was a little unhappy with software. I got the System Mechanic Professional version 7. I felt the scan was kinda sluggish even though my system isn't running anything. I do have 2 gigs of memory so that isn't the problem. I have many softwares on my system so maybe its not compatible with or glitche somehow with this software.
