Symantec's System Works is a good set of tools for ...

Strengths:

Handy Disk Maintenance tools, Data recovery, Anti-virus, Compatible with OS 10.3 Panther

Weaknesses:

High Cost. Lacks automated deframentation.

Posted Jan 3, 2005 - Symantec's System Works is a good set of tools for keeping your Mac in good health. Like most multi-platform products, Mac users pay a high premium for this product. The product lacks an automated disk deframentation tool that the PC users can get using the Diskeeper product. Overall the products perform as advertised. The worth of the Anti-virus is currently questionable, but that situation could change if the market share ever increases. Read rebate offers carefully before purchase. Many are upgrade rebates that require some form of previous ownership.

I used Norton when I was in college and liked it. ...

Strengths:

Easy to navigate the interface. Easy to repair problems.

Posted May 12, 2004 - I used Norton when I was in college and liked it. Since then I have heard mixed reviews about their software. The deciding factor for me was that this product included all of the utilities I want (for now). It's a matter of convenience and faith in the product. I booted from the CD when installing it to my problematic G4. It fixed the issues and was easy to use.

Strengths:

Norton software quality - Free Updates for the Software as well as the Virus Definitions.

Weaknesses:

None!

Posted Apr 5, 2005 - I have been using Norton Utilities and Norton AntiVirus softwares for the PC platform since the DOS era, even before Windows became popular - so, when I started using Macs recently, Norton was a very logical choice! This SystemWorks suite is integrated similarly to its more popular Windows version, and includes the AntiVirus and Utilities programs in addition to various other softwares which are included as a bonuses.
