5 Star Review Celestron Skyscout

Strengths:

Easy to navigate menu. Easy to find stars. It identifies stars and planets very quickly. Accuracy? I would say 95 out of 100.

Weaknesses:

No lens cap. No magnification function. It is expensive.

Posted Jan 20, 2008 - It is a good purchase if you are interested in identifying stars in night sky. It has voice data that provide explanations about stars, planets, and constellation. It is very light and small. However, it is quite expensive.

4 Star Review Celestron SkyScout Handheld GPS-Based Planetarium Device

Strengths:

Unique astronomical tool

Weaknesses:

Somewhat hard to read display, pricey

Posted Aug 13, 2007 - The Celestron SkyScout Handheld GPS-Based Planetarium Device is really quite a technological marvel. In the palm of your hand is a device that can identify, locate, and verbally describe up to 6000 items that are above you in the sky. The Skyscout I now have is the second one I have received - the first one had a problem with a magnetic field prompt and had to be returned. The one I have now works great and gets me outside at night to marvel at the beautiful sky. The GPS acquisition seems to be fairly reliable and it seems pretty accurate on stars, planets, and the moon. The unit can be upgraded via a usb connection with your computer. The only problem I have had with it is being able to read the screen on the unit in the dark. My eyesight isn't the best but a little magnifying glass allows me to read the readout on the screen much easier. All in all, I recommend the Celestron SkyScout.

4 Star Review SkyScout Planetarium

Strengths:

Lightweight. Easy to use right out of the box.

Weaknesses:

Battery life could be improved

Posted 1 year ago - This is an amazing device for targeting planets, stars and constellations. Fun to use with a clear night sky. Great for all ages. The built in comments about what you are viewing are great however I wish a speaker was built in instaed of using headphones. Overall 4 stars out of 5.

1 Star Review Sub-standard product design and does not function as stated

Strengths:

none - one big misrepresentation

Weaknesses:

all - does not work as Clesetron represents it to

Posted Nov 13, 2007 - SkyScout does not operate as Celestron, the mfg. represents it to. Functions do not perform and results are rarely correct. The GPS is not accurate and close by best to the actual coordinates so beware. I purchased 3 units, 1 was returned once and 1 twice and they still do not work as represented.
