4 Star ReviewIt is very good toaster comparing to other toaster ...

Strengths:

Wide slots allow to toast many different kind of bread including bagel and muffin. Very affordable price. It was one of the top ranked toaster in Consumer report.

Weaknesses:

Weird smell, something like plastic melting smell when we tried to toast first time. The length of slot is not very long, so that wide bread could not be fit.

Posted Jun 14, 2005 - It is very good toaster comparing to other toaster in similar price range. I strongly recommend this toaster to you. The price of other toasters in top rank of Consumer report was much high price range.

1 Star Review Proctor-Silex 22450 2 Slice Cool Touch Toaster

Strengths:

Inexpensive,Toasts evenly [when toasting a second time-see below] ,Wide slots,Cool to the touch, toast can be elevated w lever for retrieval.

Weaknesses:

The toast is not at all brown, even at the darkest setting.Since I get the same results from two units I'd say it's a badly designed toaster: weak heating coils or thermostat range not adjusted?

Posted Aug 9, 2006 - UPDATE 8-9-06: For me, this toaster is a definite NO! It will not brown the toast at all, even at the darkest setting, unless toasted twice! I tried another toaster & had exactly the same results! ------------------ Maybe it's my bread--but I've had no problem with 2 previous cheap toasters using the same bread! My "Ezekiel Sprouted" bread is a little heavier than some,so I called the company & they said there should be no problem toasting their bread. ---------------------------- When I do run the bread thru the toaster twice, at least then it comes out even & satisfactory. ---------------------------------------- I noticed the inner coils are not as bright as the outer coils, but Proctor-Silex tells me that is by design to keep toasting even--the inside is hotter! -------------------------- My guess is that the darkness control= thermostat is the problem--this is what wears out soonest & why you usually throw a toaster away-- because toast burns or comes out too light. -------------------------------------- The other problem with a thermostat[bimetallic strip]-- is what senses the retained heat from a previous run of toast ... so you must turn the control darker, but there's a limit & when the toaster gets hot you don't get dark toast ! But this not the cause of my problem--I start out with the toaster cold!

4 Star Review Proctor-Silex 22450 2 slice Cool Touch Toaster

Strengths:

Toasts evenly, doesn't eject toast out of toaster, price

Weaknesses:

none so far, but wish it came in black

Posted Jan 4, 2006 - I bought the toaster after reading the review in Consumer Reports and have not been disappointed. It toasts evenly, allows you to raise the hot toast out without burning your fingers, has a cancel button and doesn't catapult the toast onto the floor like my last toaster. A great product for a great price.

3 Star Review Low-priced toaster adequate for basic toasting.

Strengths:

This toaster is reliable, attractive, and compact. It doesn't take up much room on the counter. Controls are easy to use. The case is sturdy and well-made. It does produce nicely browned toast.

Weaknesses:

The pop-up lift arm, temperature setting problems, short power cord.

Posted Mar 30, 2007 - The pop up feature, even with the lift arm, doesn't raise an english muffin up high enough to easily get it out. I have to constantly change the temperature setting to get the toast just right - the setting for bread is different than for muffins. The power cord is too short, needs to be another foot longer. Bagels are almost too thick to toast. Overall, this is a good toaster for the price. It's inexpensive and it gets the job done. I didn't want to pay $50 or more to get toast in the morning, so I'm happy with the features of this toaster. The non-lifting lift arm and the short power cord are the major issues, otherwise, this is a great buy.

4 Star Review Excellent Cheap Priced Toaster

Strengths:

1) QUality of the Toast 2) Uniformity 3) Price

Weaknesses:

1) Time taken for each toast

Posted Oct 28, 2006 - I have had this toaster for a month or so and I have been happy with the toaster. I purchased it from Amazon.com for around $8.xx. Toasts seems to be toasted uniformly and comes out crunchier than the sunbeam toasters. Price was unbeatable @8.xx. Only drawback I can think of are that it takes longer than sunbeam toaster and only available in white color.

4 Star Review It does toast!

Strengths:

simple, inexpensive, does bagels, evenly toasts

Weaknesses:

not the prettiest model on the block

Posted Feb 8, 2007 - OK,I don't expect much from a toaster, except for it to toast my bread. $15 for a toaster seems like a reasonable price to toast bread. I'm not sure what I would expect a toaster to do if I bought a $75 toaster - I mean isn't it just to toast bread? This toaster does that task well. It gives consistently good results, with wide slots to accommodate bagels. It toasts evenly and doesn't take half the day. For the money, you won't find a better value.

4 Star Review works great!

Strengths:

Bagels on setting 5 come out perfectly toasted, not burnt. Inexpensive, less than $20 including shipping. Recommended as a Best Buy by Consumer Reports.

Weaknesses:

White plastic casing feels cheap.

Posted Oct 29, 2005 - I ordered this toaster after looking at the reviews on Consumer Reports (CR). I went to Costco and saw they had a 4 slot bagel toaster for $29.99. As a poor grad student, i don't need 4 slots nor did i want to shell out $30 + tax for a toaster. This Proctor Silex model was the Best Buy on CR so I searched for the lowest price, under $20 including shipping. It's been great so far. I'd buy it again.

3 Star Review Proctor Silex 22450 Cool Touch Toaster

Strengths:

Very inexpensive, small, simple, safe, wide slots, uniform toasting, coils light up instantly, cancel button, Consumer Reports best buy

Weaknesses:

Lever and cancel button feel cheaply made

Posted Feb 17, 2007 - Great toaster for a great price. It's nothing fancy and does what it is supposed to do....toast. It does an ok job. I am able to put this toaster on a tight counter where it sits close to other small appliances on either side. The cool touch keeps the other appliances from getting hot. When I read reviews on other/more expensive toasters, there were always complaints about the quality of toasting. So why pay more when they're not great? I have no idea how this toaster will hold up over time. Time will tell. If and when it breaks I can just throw it out and replace it.

4 Star Review Good toaster, great price

Strengths:

inexpensive, slide-out crumb tray, plastic body,

Weaknesses:

none so far

Posted Aug 1, 2006 - I have been using this toaster for almost 2 months now and so far, so good. I like the slide-out crumb tray and the dial [fine-tune your toast!]. And, contrary to earlier reviews, I have never had a problem with the toaster's body getting too hot. It's plastic, people! It's not exactly a heat conductor! The top part DOES get hot, though - obviously because that's part of the toaster mechanism. Another feature that people may like is that this toaster does not 'pop' toasted bread all the way out. After it's done toasting it pops the bread like 1/4 or 1/3 out, keeping it 'covered' enough when you're trying to get your coffee ready. The downside to this is that sometimes thinner slices of bread get stuck on the top edge - nothing that a fork or bread knife can free up in like a second. I have not tried toasting Texas toast or bagel slices, but the slots seem big enough to accommodate those hunks of dough... So, for a great value for your money with the above-average features it's got, this is definitely the toaster of choice.

4 Star ReviewAfter reviewing the Consumer Report, I bought the ...

Strengths:

Excellent featuring and inexpensive

Weaknesses:

Hot or very warm exterior body while using the toaster

Posted Jun 21, 2005 - After reviewing the Consumer Report, I bought the Proctor-Silex 22450 Cool-Touch 2-Slice white toaster. This is an excellent featuring and inexpensive toaster. The bread toasts evenly and consistently with the SmartToast electronics. Another favorable feature is a slide-out crumb tray for quick and easy cleans up. My only concern is still hot or very warm exterior body while using the toaster, even though it’s so called “cool-touch” type. I noticed there is the black color model option for the Proctor-Silex toaster as well.

5 Star Review toaster is great

Strengths:

stable, easy clean, simple to use

Weaknesses:

not found yet

Posted Aug 4, 2005 - It automatically stops when the bread is done which is very convenient and Once I found it stopped in a circle when I moved the toaster a little, I think that is safe.
