Toshiba's LCDVD combo models like the 26" 26HLV66 combine a top-notch LCD HDTV with an "upconverting" DVD player. This 2-in-1 design reduces cable clutter and provides a complete DVD viewing system you can easily move from room to room. The 26HLV66's black cabinet would look right at home in a living room, and its space-efficient, versatile design makes it an outstanding bedroom TV. minimize

5 Star Review Toshiba 26" HDTV LCD TV/DVD Combo

Strengths:

Great picture and ease of use DVD player.

Weaknesses:

None

Posted Dec 28, 2006 - The picture on this TV is great. I especially like the remote control that easily changes the aspect ratio depending upon the format of the program being received. Switching between TV and DVD player is simple.

5 Star Review The Best of Seven

Strengths:

Great Picture

Weaknesses:

weak 'Toshiba Digital Community'

Posted Nov 27, 2006 - Toshiba didn't stand out in one of the megastores, and the advice was either confusing or geared towards specific brands. What to do? I followed the advice in the Dec. 2006 issue of a well-known consumer evaluation magazine that rated the Toshiba as the best of seven 26" LCD TV brands. My experience parallels their conclusion: the Toshiba 26HLV66 has an excellent HD picture, and is very good for DVDs and standard-definition programming. Good blacks! Sound is also very good, and the remote is excellent, among the best I've seen. On that remote is a mode select switch between TV/DVD and VCR. When you forget to switch back after looking at a tape, as I did, the remote appears defect. I had to read the manual, and learned that I should restore the Factory Default settings if the recommended solution to make my remote working again would not be successful. But you can not enter the required PIN number without a properly working remote! This 'problem' -at least for dummies like me-, and the underwhelming 'Toshiba Digital Community' are my only complaints about the 26HLV66. I ordered the TV sixteen days before writing this review on the morning of Cyber Monday, 11/27/2006, and it cost $80 less than it costs now. Is there a lesson to be learned? Finally, the price difference between the TV with DVD and without DVD is such that I wonder why anyone would consider the latter.

1 Star Review Try something else

Strengths:

Good picture quality (for the first few days), nice solid case, sturdy, easy to navigate menu

Weaknesses:

Defective parts

Posted Jul 8, 2007 - Bought mine in March, 2007. A month later the picture (either in TV or DVD mode) would flicker/pixellate after 15 minutes. Good thing I got the 4 year service plan so the repairman came and took it to be fixed. Two months later I get a call from the repairman saying he can't fix it because Toshiba can't manufacture the part causing the problem. The part was called a "sine board". A few days later Toshiba approved to have it exchanged at the store where I bought it. Then I found out the store wasn't selling it anymore (too many complaints, hmmm?) so they offered me a similar TV but it was Sharp instead. I took it. Over all I wasn't happy with this considering I paid about $1,000 for it originally in March and the Sharp I got sells now for $800. Barnacles.

5 Star Review Toshiba 26 HLV66 TV/DVD Combo

Strengths:

This TV gets a terrific picture and has tons of features. Also, it looks sleek, rather than obtrusive.

Weaknesses:

It can be a bit difficult figuring out how to access all of the features.

Posted Feb 20, 2007 - Overall, this is a terrific LCD television/DVD player. The picture is crystal clear, the unit/cabinet looks nice, and the DVD player works well. It is also convenient to have the DVD actually attached to the TV, so as to avoid having to buy and make room for another product. There are sufficient inputs and outputs for almost anything you would want to attach. Great LCD TV/DVD choice.
