Canon WW-DC1 Weights for Waterproof Housings
Work as advertised; Good quality pieces
May not need all the weights; No "locking" feature to keep weights on housing
Posted Mar 26, 2007 - I bought these accessory weights for my Canon WP-DC6 waterproof case. They work as advertised and keep the case neutrally buoyant under water. You use 1 to 4 weights depending on the case/camera pairing you have. If you don't want to fight a camera that tries to float to the surface, you'll want these weights. All the pieces are of good quality. Multiple weights fit together using plastic pins. A threaded stainless screw attaches the weights to the bottom of the waterproof case. The main complaint I have is the lack of a locking feature to help keep the screw from loosening. You can tighten the screw but it could come loose if you rub or strike it against objects. This hasn't happened because I check and re-tighten frequently. I'd like to see Canon use some type of ribbed surface or “catch” on the waterproof housing to cut down on movement of the weight assembly. You may not use all the weights - my WP-DC6 case takes 3 of the 4. It seems like a waste to have to buy more than you need because they're not useful for anything else. You don't get a pouch or case either. I think Canon should throw this in for the money. Overall, the weights serve their purpose. I rate 3 out of 5 stars because the product does it's job but isn't exceptional.
