Among the advantages of the ProHeat self-propelled upright deep cleaner: The built-in heater for the water and cleaning solution ensures a more thoroughly cleaned carpet, and the self-propel feature makes it a cinch to maneuver this cleaner through all kinds of carpet pile, even plush. And this deep cleaner, like others from Bissell, offers a Scotchgard protection feature so that you can protect the carpet after you've cleaned it. For bare floors and carpets; cleaning formulas included. Model 7950. minimize

Bissell Steam cleaner

Started Aug 22, 2005

Strengths: easy to use and clean, did a good job

Weaknesses: only lasted a little over a year

after about a year of use, my bissell steam cleaner quit working. I took the unit to the local authorized repair shop and was told the unit was out of warranty (just) and that it would be rather expensive to repair. Interestingly, the clerk in the repair shop told me she would not buy this brand especially if she had pets and even minute quantities of pet hair may damage the pump. Bissell did offer to look at the unit if i shipped it back to them, but by the time I got a box for it, I had been notified that since they did not get the machine within 5 days, that they were rescinding the offer.

I had the same problem with my machine, had it fixed at quite an expense only to find it breaking again soon after. Bissel was completely unhelpful when I called them. The main reason I got the machine was to clean my carpets because of my dog. If the machine can't stand up to a little dog hair it shouldn't be on the market as far as I'm concerned. When the machine is working it works well but it only works for a short while before the pump breaks. What a piece of garbage!

You describe my experience with the Bissell ProHeat exactly. It does a good job of cleaning...but it breaks after 15-20 uses. My machine stopped extracting the cleaning solution and because I was not aware of this malfunction, my carpet was practically ruined. In my case, like yours, it was probably due to pet hair. Also, this machine is extremely noisy...but maybe they all are.
