Hoover FloorMate SpinScrub 800 Vacuum

Strengths: Easy to use in dry pickup mode. Makes tile floors shine in wet mode.

Weakness: Automatic shutoff mechanism kicks in continually. Detail tools ineffective and awkward to put together.

I had the lower model Floor Mate (SpinScrub 500, I think) for a year or two and absolutely loved it. I bought the SpinScrub 800 (considerably more expensive) for the wider cleaning path, the grout brushes, and the detail tools.

I was bitterly disappointed. Although it still does a great job of cleaning my tile floors, it is much more difficult to use. The main problem is the "prettier" angled design. It is hard to fill the cleaning reservoir because the hole is on an angle. I often spill some of the solution.

Worse, the automatic shutoff mechanism causes me to shut the machine off and on constantly during cleaning. (This is probably also due to the more angled design.) If you don't use small, smooth strokes, it will shut itself off long before the reservoir is full, even in dry mode!

The grout brushes seem OK, but I didn't notice any difference in my grout lines compared to the regular brushes.

The larger cleaning path made it no longer fit around my toilet, and unfortunately the detail tools proved worthless. They had poor suction and no scrubbing power. The wand was so cheaply made that it broke the first time I used it. I applied too much pressure when I tried to scrub the dirty floor, and the wand was damaged so that it no longer stays telescoped. I now have to scrub on my hands and knees around the toilet.

Overall, I still think it's a good product because it makes my tile floors sparkle. But I wish I hadn't given away my cheaper model. It cleaned just as well and was less awkward to use.

Cleans well...under pressure

Strengths: Scrubbing Brushes, Dual Tanks

Weakness: Loud, Leaves streaks after cleaning

This cleaner is a good vacuum for dry surfaces because it doesn't have a roller to throw things around. Its also very good at cleaning tiles and grout, BUT needs weight put on the front end for the brushes to really scrub well. Until I put a foot on the front to press down over the brushes it wasn't doing a good job cleaning heavily soiled areas. But when it did clean them, the grout was like new, it was amazing. Unfortunately, the brushes on this Hoover are already worn down. This is after doing only the kitchen, which isn't that big but a high traffic/soil area. I wish it was able to clean better without my weight on it and the brushes lasted longer. Also, this thing is LOUD...much louder than a normal vacuum. But eventually you get used to it. Thus, that has stopped bothering me, but still it was hard to get used to. Overall, not a bad product at all.

Hoover FloorMate SpinScrub 800 Vacuum

Strengths: Does an excellent job in the wash/wet pick up mode. Spin brushes are very effective.

Weakness: Dry vacuum mode lacks the ability to pick up anything but dirt and hair.

Living in the desert with five pets requires a system that can perform miracles. The Hoover SpinScrub does an excellent job cleaning the floors but lacks suction in the dry mode; small granules of kitty litter were just pushed around.

Having read the reviews I was unsure how our kitchen floor would turn out. All I can say is that it looks great and there was NO scrubbing on my part. I’m not sure what other posters had on their floors that the SpinScrub couldn’t get up but I can tell you my white tile looks great. The SpinScrub also did an excellent job on our other tiled room. It is a 575 sq. ft. sunroom that is a refuge to our three dogs. The tools came in very handy in this room, especially the wand and grout brush. No bending and the dirt stains were cleaned with ease. The rest of our 2700 sq. ft home is Pergo and again the SpinScrub did an excellent job; no steaks or muddy tracks as reported by others.

As others have posted the tanks are small and required emptying often; however I did find that I didn’t need to use the solution trigger as often as I had been, the brushes do stay damp and will continue to clean. The last time I used the machine to do ALL my floors I only had to fill/empty the tanks three times.

Over all I am VERY happy with the Hoover 3060 SpinScrub. Does it perform miracles….well not exactly but it does keep our floors looking great.

I have Pergo flooring. I just unpacked my SpinScrub and did not see 'laminate' included on Hoover's cleaning solution. I called them up and Hoover told me to ask Pergo. Pergo says definately not to use the cleaner, but also not to use the SpinSrub at all! They claim not only could it separate the seams (which I think would be hard to do), but it could ruin the laminate surface. I'm not sure what to do. Pergo basically said hand clean only which make me very unhappy. :-((

Have you experienced any dulling of the laminate? I think I might give it a whirl and see what happens.

Best Floor Cleaning Product on the Market

Strengths: I love this product because I have Hard Wood Floors and Tile throughout my house. It does a fantastic job cleaning the floors, much better than a standard mop plus it is more sanitary.

Weakness: They it cannot clean on its own.

If you have alot of hard surfaces in your home, then you need this product. I use mine several times per week and there is nothing else like it. I have tries other products but this cleaner puts all of the rest to shame. It does an excellent job cleaning my floors. I disagree with the other comments that state that it will not pick up stubborn spills or messes. I have a 6 year old and a 2 year old plus 2 dogs. This machine will clean any mess that you put in front of it. I am going to buy one for my parents for Christmas. I love this product. It is a huge time saver.

Maid for Me

Strengths: Does what it's supposed to

Weakness: It's not human

This machine saves me time, not to mention my back. It's not as good as having a maid but close. I find as a maintenance tool it performs great. You need to use a heavier vacuum to clean up large or heavy dirt before using and I cleaned the corners myself the first time and now only do that about once a month. It's so much easier than the mop and bucket brigade. I find if you go slowly over the floor forward first releasing the solution and then slowly pull back over the same path letting the brushes scrub slowly and vacuum suck up the solution it does a tremendous job. I let the machine do the work. Love it!

Hoover FloorMate SpinScrub 800 Vacuum

Strengths: Picks up dirt well in dry mode. Scrubs the floor nicely.

Weakness: Loses suction while in the wet cleaning mode and in the wet suction mode.

The hoover floormate spinscrub 800 works very well for picking up dirt, dust, and pet hair. The vacuum also does a terrific job of scrubing the floor, however, it does seem to "lose suction" while in the wet modes. Overall, I guess that it makes cleaning hard floors very easy. I did not like having to shut the vacuum off and turn it back on everytime it lost suction though.

The review I needed before buying

Strengths: Does use clean water and cleans. Never use dirty water to mop again.

Weakness: The dry pick up doesn’t work very well. The floormate doesn’t have a high clearance, so it won’t pick up things like cheerios. It just doesn’t scrub at all.

I had extremely high hopes for this machine. I have wood floors throughout the house and tile in the bathroom, kitchen and a huge sun porch. I also have 3 cats and a 17 month old baby. I work full time, our house is a fixer upper and as I mentioned, I have a baby. So I was looking for something to clean my house and save me some time (without hiring a maid).

So to start out with, yes, this does clean the floor. Yes, it does put clean water (with solution) down on the floor and sucks it up. So you are never cleaning with dirty water. To be sure, the floors are dirty because the water looks similar to what you see in a carpet cleaner: hair, dirt, sand and just overall dirty water after cleaning.

So why am I so disappointed with this machine? Quite a few things bother me after paying around $200 on the internet with shipping for the Floormate 800.

#1 The dry pick up doesn’t work very well. You would be much better off with a regular vacuum cleaner. The floormate doesn’t have a high clearance, so it won’t pick up things like cheerios. It is basically only good for dirt and hair. Also, it seems to spread the dirt (as in it blows it away from the machine before it picks things up). I would think Hoover, a vacuum manufacture, would do better on this feature, but hey, I was wrong.

#2 The cleaning cycle: I expected it would scrub. It does not scrub at all. Even with the “tile” cleaner brush, it does not scrub. My tile is white. Not off white but white. No, I didn’t install it. Therefore, the grout looks awful dirty all the time. So I expected the grout cleaner solution and the tile brush would do a good job on my floor. Wrong. Like I said, it is clean, but it didn’t scrub the tile at all. Also, it won’t scrub the floor. Any spots that you would be down on your knees scrubbing up, you still will be. Even something like my toddler’s milk puddle from the day before wouldn’t scrub up with the cleaner. Anything that slightly sticks to the floor, won’t come up. It just doesn’t scrub at all. Very disappointing.

#3 The drying cycle: works fine, just like a squeegee. Picks up most of the water and does help it dry faster.

Additionally, I agree with a previous post about the machine. The design of the dirty water tank is flawed. The top does not stay on the tank when you remove it from the machine, so don’t try to carry it by the top because you will end up with dirty water all over the place.

So overall, do I like the machine? It’s ok. I wouldn’t pay $200 for it. If I had not paid $15 to ship it and probably a similar amount to ship it back, I would have returned it. I’ll still use it to clean the floors, but as I said, it doesn’t scrub it. So expect to be down on your hands and knees to get those stuck on, dirty spots and to clean your grout good.

Lowieowie's review was right on the money. I have the Floormate 500, but she described my complaints to a T! I am returning this thing to the point of purchase ASAP. What a piece of junk!

I disagree. I just received this cleaner, and I have fallen in love. First of all, I guess I never expected it to do all the work for me. I just wanted it to help make mopping my floors easier. I absolutely hate mopping!! I would rather scrub a toilet, seriously. This machine did this for me in far less time it would take if I would mop it myself. After reading the instructions I discovered you have to move slowly over the floor. You cannot fly over them like you do with a vacuum cleaner. Basically, expect to use it in the same manner as a carpet shampooer. The only downfall I could find is that it can't get under the very edge of the stove and fridge. But a quick swipe with a towel can take care of that. My kitchen in the highest traffic area in the house, and it cleaned the dirt perfectly. I would highly recommend this machine for someone tired of being exhausted from mopping.

FloorMate SpinScrub 800 Vacuum

Strengths: simple to put together and take apart, works on all types of flooring, attractive appliance, great attachments!

Weakness: seems to jam often; requires extra effort and leaves muddy tracks on really dirty floors

i am disabled and SICK of hubby's idea of "housecleaning" so ordered this in hopes my house (with all new hardwood floors) might actually look clean - after watching it sit in its box for a week or so, i finally tackled it myself - and was amazed at how simple it is to put together and operate and what a great job it actually does, at least on tiled floors; those have never looked better! i did find it left a lot of muddy tracks on the really dirty floors when i used the wet pickup, which i finally "fixed" by putting a towel under my feet and "skating" it dry, then going over it again after cleaning the filter and with fresh solution. it also seemed to jam up or at least sounded like it was jammed frequently, but i found if i just turned it off for a few seconds then turned it back on it was fine - not sure why it keeps making that particular sound (like jammed) but like i said, it never really was and would stop on its own.

however, when i went to do the wood floors, i found the cleaning solution that came with it was NOT satisfactory and left a LOT of streaks... i would strongly suggest investing in hardwood floor cleaner (old english or similar) to keep the wood looking its best. i also had to frequently stop and clean the squeegee as it seemed to grab more than just the water - despite dry vac'ing first, we have too much animal hair and debris that seems to find its way into the brush and squeegee unit.

overall i find it to require a bit more "scrubbing" than i expected even using the grout brush - those dried spots just didn't want to come up without repeatedly going back and forth. i do find however that, despite my disability (back) i can actually manage to use this as long as i just take one or 2 rooms at a time - but that was more than i could do with our old vacuum and mop! i can't say if the bissell flip it or any other model works better as i have never tried another model for floors, but i am not disappointed in this product and really like the extra attachments for the tiny hard to reach places. be interesting to see how long it actually keeps working!

Not worth the price

Strengths: Dries the floor after cleaning it

Weakness: Vacuum power, leaks when not in use, difficult to get the right "groove"

I have wanted one of these for quite along time. My mom found a great deal online and offered to pay for part of
it as a birthday gift. (like appliances should be gifts! my bad, not her's. she knew i had wanted one and couldn't afford it o
n my own)

Anyhow, my Bissel hard floor vac finally died after 3 years, so I went for this. What a waste. The vacuum lacks power, and because
of the squeegee on the front for drying the wet floor, it doesn't allow for enough "sucking through" space.

After emptying the canister to get ready to wet-clean, it goes fairly smoothly. If you have a fairly clean floor. I don't. I
have 4 kids which is one reason I wanted this - to make floor cleaning easier! The scrubbing brushes have to be pushed back & forth
at least 10 times (5 forward, 5 back) to get things such as the black spots of dripped juice covered in dirt (you parents know what
i'm talking about. Plus, each time you pull it back (even if it's not switched to wet suction) it sucks up enough of the wate
r that you need to re-spray it out, using too much of the cleaning product. I end up pushing it forward & spraying the floor, lettin
g it sit for a bit, then scrubbing over & over as I spray more solution on before finally squeegee suctioning it up.

If I had known then what I know now, I would have kept the older model that Target had on sale for $89 or better yet bought myself
an mp3 player and stuck with the swiffer wetjet.

Works as advertised

Strengths: Drys floor after washing. Picks up dirt that mop would leave.

Weakness: Tank capacity seems too small, causing frequent emptying and re-filling of solutions. Suction can accidently stop when dirty water canister gets near full.

We've used the machine about a dozen times over 3 months to clean both tile and wood floors. It does what it is supposed to do, and pretty well.

Hoover says to use its own cleaning solution. We generally do. But we have also used a diluted clorox and soap solution. That works well too. We were pleased to see that the brush/vacume combination picked up the dirt and particles that inevitably get stuck in the minute spaces between the wood planks in finished oak floors. The mop generally misses this.

And, its a good thing not to have to bend down and squeeze mops and empty buckets. But we did find that because the dirty tank capacity is only about a quart or so, we were emptying it every 200 square feet or so. So, if you have a 20 by 30 square foot room to clean like we do, it takes about 3 visits to the sink to empty the dirty water, and about 2-3 refills of the cleaning solution tank. Not a big deal, but fewer is better.

We did find that the special spinning grout brush attachment/replacement was a "must have" for uneven floors, like tile floors. The regular brush does just a so-so job on tile floors with deep grout lines (more than an eighth of an inch deep).

In wet pickup mode, it does a wonderful job of drying the floor.

The one minor annoying thing that happens is when the suction is cut off by the safety feature in the dirty water tank. As the tank gets full, a safety float in the tank hits the top of the tank in order to cut suction so that no more dirty water can be taken in and overfill the tank. The solution to this problem is two fold. When the tank gets near full:
1. Keep handle as upright as possible . 2. Use smooth slow strokes instead of shaking the handle and tank.

Whenever this happens, all you have to do is shut off vacume for about 10 seconds which releases safety float, and then turn on again. No big deal, just a minor annoyance.

Overall, very good product. We think it cleans better than a mop and pail.

FloorMate SpinScrub 800 Vacuum

Strengths: seems pretty solid and easy to manuever

Weakness: Cost $229 Slow small tanks, very small tanks forces user to empty out the machine every 10 minutes.

Considering this cost $229 I was hoping for some more. They do provide some attachments, but they seem kinda useless. I would stick with the cheaper 3030 model for the same performance at about $60 cheaper.

Goodbye Buckets and Mops!!

Strengths: Cleans all flooring surfaces with different brush attachments. Detail kit for easy cleaning of hard to reach surfaces.

Weakness: Can be noisy

Easy to use on all flooring surfaces using the different floor brushes that come with the unit. Convenient vacuum mode cleans debris from floor which is also a plus. Easy to use attachments for cleaning behind the comode and other hard to reach surfaces. The spin brushes effectively loosen dirt and the drying mode completely dries the floor for a professional quality sheen.
If you are looking for a machine that cleans hardwood and ceramic tile I highly recommend purchasing this. I also use this to clean up spills.

waste of money

Strengths: Smelled good

Weakness: took as long as mopping

What a waste of money! I purchased this machine only to find it took longer to sweep and mop with it than it did the old fashioned broom, mop and bucket way. It did not get into corners or edges when sweeping, did not clean grout at all and did not extract water well. I tried to sell this at a garage sale 6 months after I had it, and couldn't get $50 for it(including a free bottle of floor cleaner!)

I agree - it was a waste of money. My floor mate was the bottom of the line model, so I am not out as much money. I mop my kitchen floor frequently, so only used the floor mate a couple of time a year. Now that it is beyond the warranty, on its fourth use, the solution tank will no longer release the cleaning solution. I have only used the Hoover floor solution in it, and I've cleaned the machine thoroughly each time I've used it. I does suck up the water very well, but doesn't clean any better than my mop and bucket. It also takes quite a while to clean the machine after use. Hardly worth the extra work.
