4 Star Review Good product

Strengths:

good quality, and good price

Weaknesses:

The antenna is not good, may need a seperate one.

Posted Nov 19, 2006 - This HDTV usb TV tuner is a Very good product and have good quality considering the price, but the antenna needs some work... If you can afford the money, buy a separate antenna and will enhance the quality.

5 Star Review Artec USB HDTV tuner. Very nice item!!

Strengths:

1. Easy installation (plug into your USB port, attach the antenna, install software and you're good to go 2. Excellent price ($44.99)

Weaknesses:

So so software GUI but it DOES work well

Posted Oct 4, 2006 - This is a score if you have the beefy CPU, enough memory and a good enough graphics card to support it. I have a dual core P4 with 1GB RAM and a 128MB graphics card. Even with that I expected a choppy snowy picture and what I got was a crisp clear smooth video. At full screen it's just like I bought a new 20" widescreen LCD HDTV for 45 bucks! With the little stock antenna that came with it I still get 14 clear smooth HD channels. If you are near a big city (HD broadcasts) and have a beefy machine then I highly recommend this.(hint: download the latest software from the vendor's website. Do NOT use the DVD that comes with the tuner)

5 Star Review Great portable HDTV solution

Strengths:

High sensitivity, tiny, works well with MCE, includes antenna

Weaknesses:

Included application, gets a little warm, included antenna

Posted Oct 12, 2006 - I got this tuner to go along with my MCE laptop. I had a desktop with a pci HDTV card. I'm glad to say that it works very well with MCE and the sensitivity is high and rejects multipath well. It is also tiny, so you could take it on the road. But, make sure your laptop is powerful enough to decode HDTV. Most newer CPUs should be capable. Also, the included application has very limited functionality. Fortunately, there are PLENTY 3rd party applications that will work with this. The included antenna works (kind of), but it's an eyesore. They tried to make it better by printing a picture on it, but I think it makes it look cheesy. I would have rather gotten a higher gain antenna.

3 Star Review Artec HDTV USB adapter

Strengths:

Size, Reception

Weaknesses:

no QAM.

Posted Dec 21, 2006 - This ia a nice little USB adapter to watch HDTV on the go on a laptop or even desktop. Once setup, the provided antenna pulls in a good no. of channels that are broadcast over the air. perfect for watching TV untethered. works very well for me on windows xp. the included software viewer is not good but use WatchHDTV and it will be excellent.

4 Star Review Shows Promise

Strengths:

Compact adapter and antenna, inexpensive, easy to install. Very convienent for laptop travel since no external power adapter is needed.

Weaknesses:

Only picks up half my HD channels. Basic software package.

Posted Oct 7, 2006 - For some reason it only scans 5 of 11 HD channels in my area (several scans while adjusting the antenna). The ones that do scan come in fine with no skipping and smooth playback. However, all 11 do come in strong on my Hyundai Q321 HDTV (w/ integrated tuner) and Terk HDTVlp antenna. I'm using the latest drivers from ArtecTV.com (v1.0.3) rather than the CD and have it installed on a Dell Inspiron E1405 (Dual core, 1 GB RAM). Results may vary on older systems, so you may want to keep this in mind since it is software-based decoding. The antenna is like half a mouse pad with a suction cup to hold it up. I'm not sure if I can use another software package to allow recording and manual adjustments to channel lineup.

4 Star Review Nice Antenna

Strengths:

Good Tuner, Low price

Weaknesses:

the software that it uses lacks flexibility

Posted Nov 29, 2006 - This is a tiny USB Digital TV Tuner. I am using it with my laptop. It has a nice antenna that comes with it. It works well for HD channels. It needs improvement in its software (it is not user friendly at all). Also, the hardware gets warm fast. All in all it is a good product for its price and i recommend it

4 Star Review Good design, good reception, good quality, so so software- make sure you have enough power to run it

Strengths:

The size and design (antenna connection), pretty good reception and for the channels that are within range, excellent quality

Weaknesses:

1. My laptop and XPC does not have enough power through USB to run it 2. MCE support is buggy 3. software look very cheap made

Posted Oct 3, 2006 - I bought this device mainly to add OTA HDTV to my MCE rig. It took me a solid 3 hours to finally made it work. There is very little information on how to set it up with MCE other than the manual saying that it's MCE compatible. My MCE was unable to detect the device automatically and require a manual setup. It seems to have trouble working with the hauppauge analog PCI Tuner card. I finnaly got it to work by taking the following steps: first automatic detection of analog tuner --> restart MCE --> manual setup both analog and USB tuner --> restart MCE. For my DTV/HDTV channels, the quality is excellent- sometimes even better than cable. There are some lags from time to time and I suspect is the lack of CPU power. Even though it says 3GHz is sufficient (no lag using the software that come with the card), you will need more powerful CPU if you run it with MCE. Also, beware! I tested the tuner on my laptop and winXP XPC, neither was able to supply enough power to it.

5 Star Review Artec T14A MINI USB HDTV TUNER

Strengths:

Small, Compact, Portable

Weaknesses:

Cannot record, or use time shift with bundled software

Posted Oct 20, 2006 - This is a MUST HAVE if you want the absolute smallest, and simplest HDTV USB Tuner you can find! It comes complete with a superb antenna, and works flawlessly with Windows XP SP-2. It is only slightly larger than a regular USB memory stick! The bundled software is very easy to use, and has worked fine as well, however, if you want to spend the extra money, Beyond TV version 4.4 compliments it well. With Beyond TV you them have the ability to overcome its weaknesses with the bundled software. If you want a super add on to your portable computing arsenal, this is MUST HAVE! And not to mention it works on desktops too! You just can't go wrong with this HDTV USB tuner!

4 Star Review Excellent Digital TV Tuner despite few HDTV Channels

Strengths:

Light-weight and small size, great video and audio quality, easy setup and usage, good price point.

Weaknesses:

Just a few HDTV channels to tune into for now and it's not a PVR.

Posted Sep 6, 2006 - I bought this Mini-USB TV Tuner Card on impulse regardless of only being able to receive digital HDTV stations. I was curious of the quality and its compact size and was pleasantly surprised on how well it came through on both. With more stations going to the HDTV format, I think this is a good investment as a supplemental viewer for the near future.

4 Star Review work well

Strengths:

Small size, fair quality image from its antenna.

Weaknesses:

None so far

Posted Nov 26, 2006 - Its small size make it possible to use with laptop. Fair quality image from its antenna. It comes with a USB cable, so the USB port does hold the weight of the cable.

5 Star Review HDTV tuner in USB-flash size

Strengths:

It really works; it's small in size; it does not require power supply (powered from USB port); an indoor antenna is included and works pretty good; simple installation and tuning; HDTV support.

Weaknesses:

It requires a powerfull processor to work good; there is no internal decoder for scrambled cable TV yet.

Posted Oct 17, 2006 - I was really surprised. I did not expect so good performance from this small thing. Installation took about 10 minutes. In my area (Nashua NH) I have 20 DTV stations, 2 of them are HDTV. Works nice when processor (2.8G HT) is free.

3 Star Review Very cheap one.

Strengths:

Very cheap, come with an antenna for less than 45. Very small size. like a flash mem.

Weaknesses:

very bad software, a very basic one without any extra function. Quality is only ok.

Posted Nov 27, 2006 - This is very cheap one, come with a small antenna, but signal is good. However, the software sucks, and need a powerful system to run it. I have a 2.8 dual code, 1.5 GB ram, but I still feel some stilling when I watch in full mode. I don't have another HDTV tuner to compare but the quality is worse than HDTV I saw in the best buy or Circuit city.

5 Star Review HDTV USB TV

Strengths:

Easy install, Great Price, Set up in a flash

Weaknesses:

Trouble finding documentation on using it with Media player. The software player seems to be buggy.

Posted Feb 8, 2008 - It took me no time at all to set it up to work with the software provided on my P4 2.8 gig machine the video is a little jumpy especialy when time shifting. Fast forward and play controls don't work well when I hit play after fast forwarding it justs seems to start anywhere it wants to. When I tryed to play the files on media player the audio was skipping constantly.

4 Star Review Not bad, with a few caveats

Strengths:

Cheap and small

Weaknesses:

Gets warm, no QAM support

Posted May 4, 2007 - This tuner works reasonably well on my p4 2.8 ghz, 512 MB RAM. The enclosed program works fine for scheduled recordings, but lags for general viewing. WatchHDTV (watchhdtv.net) works well for full screen viewing with no lag. It seems to use less of the CPU and less RAM than artec's software. However WatchHDTV often crashes when recording a stream. When playing back recordings VLC (www.videolan.org) does a better job than the enclosed software. It deinterlaces a 1080i stream, making as clear as 720p on my 1366x768 screen. Reception is not as good as other ATSC tuners using the same indoor antenna. I recommend a large UHF antenna.
