Discussion of ATI TV Wonder 650 PCI TV Tuner
Posted Sep 19, 2006 - ATI recalled initial release of TV Wonder 650 product to shelves. No one has any stock. They have no ETA on fixing the issues that sparked the recall and have not officially released information to the public on their release recall. Choose another product with less issues.

Posted May 15, 2006 - This product (an the bundled software) is UNACCEPTABLE for today standards. I'm very disappointed with Pinnacle and the support provided through their site. Any mail or phone call to Pinnacle is simply IGNORED. First of all, the provided drivers don't not match hardware (installs driver for PCTV 110i instead of 50i). There is no reference to PCTV 50i on the CD. Not even in pinnacle.com you will find the right driver. From this point on, everything is a NIGHTMARE. Second: when scanning TV channels, the detected channels are simply forgotten. They won't apeear in any of the channel lists. Finally: Media Center is very, very slow. No matter how fast your hardware is. I've tested it on a Pentium 4, 3GHz, 1GB RAM and Media Center ended up with my patience. Also tested it on an Athlon 1700+, overclocked to 2100, 1GB RAM. When you start Media Center you have enough time to take a shower. I cannot tell if the card is good, as the software provided turns it useless. I've tested Pinnacle products before, and I usually recommend it to my friends and colleagues. But I won't buy any hardware (forget software) from Pinnacle again. EVER.
Discussion of AVerMedia AVerTV CardBus PCMCIA TV Tuner Card
Posted Apr 25, 2006 - I just got off the phone with AverTV. It appears that the reviews might be misplaced. I understand that two cards exist the less expensive $120 card. The $120 card does a hardware MPEG conversion the the 70 card does a software MPEG conversion. I'm curious is the heat was being generated by the CPU or the card. The main reason for my writing is to share my conversation. In addition, the tech suggested the hardware version (120) if you want to move to Windows ME. If I went with the software (70), that it ran better on a faster Pentium machine (I think she said> P3), my 2G memory was sufficient and 64M on your video card.

Posted Mar 10, 2006 - I want to build a pvr but i would like to find a video card that has the option of a tv out. Maybe my lack of experience with these cards or lack of understanding, but I haven't seen a card that offers that, just video in. Does anyone know how to create a pvr with this or other cards and then send to a TV and not play it on my PC.

Posted Mar 5, 2006 - Hi guys, anyone's got any idea if this is the right choice for the following job : I'm gonna have a 3GHz P4 w 1GB RAM set only to capture and encode, based on a preset schedule, day after day. The thing is i need it to happen fast (preferably on the fly). Is this PVR up to it? I mean, are the encodeing times reasonable, or should i go for something else? I need the final output to be either WMV or QuickTime at 320/240, 19 fps, 250 kbps. Thanks
