Enhance your Skype Internet Telephone Service with the DPH-50U Skype USB Phone Adapter. The Skype certified DPH-50U allows you to use your existing corded or cordless telephone to take advantage of low cost calling features from Skype. Utilizing your existing telephone enables you to use built-in features such as speed dial, redial, mute and caller ID from your telephone. Using a cordless phone even unties you from your computer while making Skype calls. Best of all, there is no additional equipment to buy to start using the DPH-50U. minimize

5 Star Review D-Link DPH-50U

Strengths:

Ease of operation/setup Voice quality Features

Weaknesses:

Can only be used with Skype - does not seem to be able to be used with other VOIP services but I am sure someone can figure out a software fix for this.

Posted Aug 27, 2006 - This is a great addition for Skype users.I hooked an old phone up to it to try it out and the sound quality was great. It was so good I am thinking about getting rid of my phone servoce and just use skype and my mobile phone service.

4 Star Review DPH-50U Skype USB Phone Adapter

Strengths:

it works, easy install, elegant look

Weaknesses:

sound delay

Posted Sep 30, 2006 - Originally, I was skeptic if this product would work well. However, I gave it a try since I needed a phone adapter for my Skype account. I was surprised that it worked reasonably well. It's very easy to install. There were some delays when I made or received a call, but it was still acceptable. Overall, it was a good experience for me.

4 Star Review Smart Choice for Skype Users

Strengths:

Easy installation, nice look, and use it with your home telephone together

Weaknesses:

not good sound quality

Posted Jun 1, 2006 - It is a good useful product certificated by Skype, which means there is no problem when you use it for Skype. My Skype software is 2.5 beta edition and it is completely comparable. It can switch by itself between home phone and Skype. You can also make Skype call from your phone. The weakness is the poor sound quality. It is not good compared to my microphone. It uses USB 1.0 and is not 2.0. Finally, I think this product is useful for people who want to use their cordless phone to talk by VOIP. I like it after all.

4 Star Review this is an awesome Skpe gateway!!

Strengths:

full function Skype gateway: - use cordless phone - use as remote gateway. you can connect your Skype and local phones remotely.

Weaknesses:

slightly bigger than the other competitors. also i belive dlink discontinued this product.

Posted Oct 14, 2006 - full function Skype gateway: - use cordless phone - use as remote gateway. you can connect your Skype and local phones remotely. for ex: you can have all skype calls forwarded to your cell if unanswered. Also you can call from your cell and make skype calls remotely. Awesome!! Couple of weeknesses I saw: slightly bigger than the other competitors. also i belive dlink discontinued this product. But these are just nitpicks.

5 Star Review D-link

Strengths:

Really easy to use. connects straight out of the box. Easy instructions and reasonably small unit. Seems to work well (only used for 1 day).

Weaknesses:

None,

Posted Jun 18, 2006 - unfortunately I do not have the "+" symbol on my phone and have to dial "00" in front of every call, but that's more to do with Skype than the D-link. I would reccomend this unit, rather than buying a Skype cordless phone (which is more expensive).

4 Star Review Works very well with Skype

Strengths:

It works very well, USB powered, works with any regular phone

Weaknesses:

Need to install the latest software

Posted Dec 12, 2007 - After installing the latest software that is labeled for Windows Vesta, the devices works without any problem. Since it is USB-powered, it saves an extra slot on my already crowded power bar. I tried the 3-way conference with a regular phone line. It works! I am quite impressed with that. With the small size, it fits very well on my desk.

3 Star Review Works wells but drops calls???

Strengths:

Easy Set up. Connects to Skype well at start up and when making a call. Seems to connect well when you have an incoming call also and rings the phone.

Weaknesses:

All the extra digits you have to type to get it to work is a little difficult for non-technical and computer beginners. Must use ## before the number and then * to make it call.

Posted Oct 2, 2006 - We used it for about 1 month we I began to notice calls were getting dropped. We switched phones and it still did it. Then once it gave a error message and shut down the program. Just saw the software update the other day so will try that but watch v1.0 for this. Will update when have loaded the new software.

4 Star Review Good Product if you are a big Skyper

Strengths:

Easy to setup, Good sound quality, make Skype almost seamless

Weaknesses:

Needs to be connected to a computer (standalone would be much cooler), Made by D-Link (who tends to produce some problem products)

Posted Dec 3, 2007 - If you are a big Skype fan and/or purchased the Skype unlimited outgoing calls plan, this device is for you. It is easy to setup and will allow you to make Skype calls via your normal telephone. The nice part is that you are no longer chained to your computer via a headset. (Of course, you could use a wireless headset to give some mobility. But this is even more flexible because any phone can now be a Skype phone.) The biggest downside for me is that it is made by D-Link. Their track record is my eyes in rather marginal. They produce nice products that only last a short time. So far, this product is working well, but I'll be keeping an eye on it to see how it does over time. If you are not scared of D-Link and enjoy Skype, definitely buy this device. Even if you are scared of D-Link, like me, it is a fun device to play with for a long as it lasts.

4 Star Review Review for DPH-50U Skype USB Phone Adapter.

Strengths:

easy install. works ok. easily connect your skype remotely.

Weaknesses:

sometimes sound is not clear.

Posted Nov 17, 2007 - I bought this for the skype in my laptop and it works ok. it is easily to be installed following the manual with the product. It is a very useful stuff to combine this adapter with skype. You can easily control skype remotely, very convenient. You can also make Skype call from your phone. But one point I want to mention here you should not expect the sound quality is as good as your cell phone or land line. sometimes, the sound is not quite clear.

1 Star Review Wouldn't work

Strengths:

unknown

Weaknesses:

driver issues

Posted Oct 7, 2007 - I may have received a dud but my adapter wouldn't work correctly. Dropped calls, missed calls, etc. I have seen mixed reviews online. Those who can get it to work absolutely love it, but there seem to be a handful of people out there who received very buggy adapters. I'm sending this one back.

1 Star Review DPH-50U skype usb phone adapter

Strengths:

looks nice

Weaknesses:

Drop every single calls i ever made.

Posted May 1, 2007 - QOS was enabled. and no clue what is wrong with it. Dlink support is horrible and did not do a thing to help this problem. I see from other reviews that it happens on others too. If anyone knows how to solve it. Pls let me know since dlink doesn't know how to fix it yet. I have Optimum so speed it shouldn't be an issue. Tried the most updated version of skype and older versions, same result. uninstall and install the adapter and same thing.

4 Star Review Great Improvement for Skype

Strengths:

Use Skype with any phone, combine skype with your regular phone system, great features

Weaknesses:

Unstable software when used with new versions of skype, too many buttons to press

Posted Jan 14, 2007 - This device is a very good way to integrate your normal phone line with skype. With this you can use skype with any standard phone. I used the spare pairs in the phone line wiring to run the Skype phone network throughout my house. Now every phone in my house can be used to make or receive skype calls. If your computer is off or there is a power failure, the d-link defaults to the normal phone line so you can still use your normal phone in these situations. It offers call waiting, including the ability to accept skype call while you are on the normal phone and vice-versa. There are a few negatives: I tried using the latest version of skype with this and experienced a lot of dropped calls after 3-5 minutes of talking. Their tech support provided a beta driver (1.20). It helped a little, but I switched back to the version of Skype included on the D-link disk (2.0) and haven't had any problems since. I strongly recommend doing this. You have to push a lot of buttons to make skype calls. Program them in your speed dial.
