Vonage PAP2 VoIP Internet Phone Starter Kit

Strengths: Clear sound, cheaper then the lanline, I haven't had a problem with it yet.

Weakness: All the phones need to be connected to the Adapter. Not good for a large house for the wiring, I tring to find one that is wireless if it possible. It is a bit bulky.

This item will end up saving me 30 dollars a month which is great. The adapter is quite bulky So it doesn't fit nicely under too many items. All my wiring for my DSL/Phone is now taking up 2 surge protecters.

BEWARE - locked to Vonage

Strengths: Great quality, easy to set up

Weakness: Vonage only

The way this device is marketed here does not make it clear that this device locks you into using the Vonage VOIP service. While Vonage are good at marketing, they are priced WAY ABOVE other Voice Over IP services, most of whom don't have any monthly fee just a per-minute fee as low as $0.01/min (some are even free).
WARNING - this device is LOCKED to Vonage
If you want to use those other cheaper (and just as reliable) VOIP services, you must buy a PAP-2 that is not locked to any single service provider. Those unlocked devices don't cost any more than this one, and you get a lot more flexibility. You can even use Vonage on them, but you're not limited to that one service provider.

Right price, Fast enough for me

Strengths: small and compact, inexpensive

Weakness: set up and cust service and kinda techy for the layman, a couple seconds delay when talking.

Althought the price is good, the setup is easy unless you want to use this with a provider other than vonage.

It can be done, but it is quite geeky and you really need to know what you are doing. Some site provide help.

This saved me a ton of money as I call to the UK a lot.

Linksys PAP2 Phone Adapter

Strengths: Small, price is good after rebate

Weakness: Only designed for Vonage service.

First of all, if you are not (or do not intend to be) a Vonage service customer, don't go for it since it is only useful for this service. But it does good job, and the net price for it is cheap, of course you need to pay Vonage service fee.

Save $$$ on overseas calls and stay in touch.

Strengths: Super easy to set up, best price, got mine free after rebate, sounds good

Weakness: Customer service is lacking, sound could be better

I got 2 of these and sent one to distant family in Italy (Catania, Sicily) and I was talking to them in no time at all. There are times when audio would drop and then just rise to a very loud level and then taper off to normal. Not sure if it's my end or the Sicilian end....but I have a pretty good idea.
Other than talking to family overseas, the call forward feature and voicemail is pretty good to have.
I got mine for $49.99 with a $50.00 rebate, so it was essentially free although I did pay tax.

I recommend buying it if u have family overseas , u can save $$$.

Linksys PAP2 VoIP Gateway

Strengths: Good Adapter, Compact and looks nice. Sound Quality is good

Weakness: Adapter base that holds the adapter in upright position doesn't fit very well with the adapter

Sound quality and vonage features are great. It is very economical. I like the call forward feature and voicemail access via web.

Drawbacks of using Vonage - 1) Few times caller ID doesn't display and I have to "reboot" phone adapter to get back caller ID on my phone. 2) Vonage customer support isn't that good. You will need to wait for at least 30-40 minutes before you could get next customer rep. 3) I have had problems using the vonage line as a fax line. This is either because of heavy internet traffic or technical difficulties with vonage themselves in which I had wait 40 minutes to talk to customer rep to get that fixed. Other than that, the service is great.

Linksys PAP2

Strengths: Could be unlocked to use with any VOIP service providers

Weakness: Cannot send or receive fax from the phone ports of PAP2

The Linksys PAP2 could be unlocked and set for use with different VOIP service providers. Setting the PAP2 the first time is challenging but once you understand the the internal commands and setups of PAP2, it is very simple since you don't have to change them a whole lot. When PAP2 is up running you will not have to change it again unless you change VOIP service providers. Sending and receiving fax from the phone ports of PAP2 are still a problem for most users since the fax services via packets are inherently not reliable without the T.38 protocol support. The option of being able to take the PAP2 with you anywhere in the world with broadband connection and use it as if you are right at home is an excellent feature to have since the computer network recognize your PAP2 by its IP instead of the the telephone numbers. The Linksys PAP2 is must have for VOIP if you have broadband connection, particularly when you make a lot of long distance and overseas calls.

Good phone adapter

Strengths: small and very easy to install and use. Good voice quality.

Weakness: The base of the adapter can not hold the adapter firmly.

This is a good phone adapter for VOIP.Its price is also reasonable. Adapter is small and easy to install and use.
Just plug in your router and phone line, set up the vonage account information then you would be ready to make phone calls all over the world at a very low cost. But the Vonage customer serives is not that good. Anyway, the product itself is recommended.

Very good VOIP adaptor

Strengths: Easy install, light weight.

Weakness: Costly at $59.99 plus tax.

I love this thing. I could easily install it and connect it to the VOIP provider. Its very light and commnunicates well with my PC and 3COM router/gateway. Also the good thing about this adaptor is it can be placed vertically which makes more sense if space is limited on the tower. The voice is crystal clear except for rare noises.

Linksys PAP2 VoIP Gateway

Strengths: Easy to install, easy to setup

Weakness: doesn't have built in router capabilities

PAP2 adapter made it easy to transition to VoIP. The product is reliable and easy to set up. I would prefer having an all in one adapter, but this will do. Easy to integrate into current setup

PAP2 VOIP works well but Vonage customer service...

Strengths: Easy to install, worked immediately, and sounds great.

Weakness: The labels on the product are in micro print. For a while I couldn't get a dial tone because I couldn't make out the 1 & 2 on the line jacks.

Only one major complaint was that the Vonage site doesn't tell you that you CAN'T transfer a phone number used for DSL until you're ready to sign-up (adapter in hand). You also can't cancel a phone line and still get DSL. So, don't buy this unless you want a additional pnone line in addition to your DSL or you have a cable modem. I had to switch back to a cable modem from DSL which was the biggest hassle of them all. I really would have liked to be informed of his before I tried to start my service.

Update: Does not function well when attached to multi-phone house wiring. Outgoing calls work but incomming calls wouldn't ring. Use with a cordless multi-phone system where ONLY one base station is connectd to the PAP2.

Linksys PAP2 VoIP Gateway

Strengths: Easy install, quality construction and appearance

Weakness: None

This item is very straight forward to use, plug in phone and your ethernet chord from your cable/DSL modem and your ready to go. This item delivers on it's basic function allowing you to use a standard phone rather than having to spend a lot on an internet phone. Sound quality is pretty good. Only giving 4 stars rather than 5 because it doesn't do a whole lot, so I suspect any glitches on the call delivery or sound quality would be due to either your internet service provider or the VoIP internet phone service. No problems so far.

A very good VOIP adapter

Strengths: Universal power supply will work if you travel; 2 phone ports available.

Weakness: Unit running relatively hot; design bigger then competitors.

Linksys phone adapter is a good box for advanced VOIP users.
Through the web interface you can configure a lot of parameteres and setup dial plans. Also having 2 ports one should be able to get 2 different phone numbers with only one connection to the internet. Comparing to the Grandstream box which I had, this one have more features but as I pointed out as weaknesses, this unit is actually bigger and kind of overheats. Other then that, setup was easy, there is a lot of (good) documentation, voice quality is very good (of course it depends on your VOIP provider) and on the web you can find a lot of information about this device (including unlocking instructions!). The power supply you get is a universal 110-220v/50-60Hz so this unit is ideal if you travel. Overall a very good Linksys product, as one would expect from Linksys (now Cisco).

Great product

Strengths: Easy to install

Weakness: If you set it up yourself, it is very difficult to do it. Because there are so many parameters in advanced mode.

It is very easy to install it. Also, it is very easy to set up if you want to use Vonage service. But I don't want to use Vonage service, because of the price. After unlocking it, I can use the voip service from other company. It works smoothly. Great product!

Linksys PAP2 VoIP Gateway

Strengths: Compact & easy to setup.

Weakness: No QoS.

Have been using Vonage with this PAP2 adapter for the past couple of days and it has been working smoothly. Setting-up the service was a breeze. All the instructions were very clear in the PAP2 manual. It does not have QoS, although I don't see a need at the moment. I may switch later to a different adapter. Overall quality is good.

Near perfect

Strengths: Cheap, great features...free *69, click2call, caller ID, etc..

Weakness: None

In my household, I've had Vonage for nearly six days and I couldn't be happier. The sound is so clear that our friends constantly comment that our voices sound like I am standing right next to them. In addition, the complete control Vonage gives you over their service via the website is a dream. All the information you need is right there (e.g., billing, voicemail, account, etc.). And, I love being able to check our voicemail online. I even have the service set up to send me an e-mail when a new voicemail has arrived.

Linksys PAP2 Phone Adapter with Vonage VoIP Internet...

Strengths: Nice shape and functions

Weakness: Only works for Vonage.

This device is smaller than I expected and I like the design and shape. It functions are unique and limited to Vonage service. I heard someone can kind of "unlock" it, but I don't know how to handle it.

Great device for VOIP

Strengths: SIze, easy to use

Weakness: Designed for Vonage only

This is my second phone adapter. I use it as a portable phone. It is simply a wonderful device. I have used it overseas without difficulty. Also works fine when attached to a fax machine. Unfortunately if you are not using this with Vonage, it may be a hassle.

Linksys Internet Phone Start-up Kit with 2 Port...

Strengths: This is a simple way to setup a VOIP system in your home or office.

Weakness: Unit can only be used with Vonage.

This is a very easy way to set up a VOIP account with Vonage. Per my research, Vonage is the best service around for clarity and reliability. I have been using my Vonage account for a few days and am amazed with the clarity of the calls. This unit was simple to set up and very reliable. I use it with a wireless phone and I cannot tell the difference from my old land line.

VOIP save me a lot.

Strengths: Easy to setup. Sound quality is OK. Save a lot compare to traditional landline.

Weakness: Need to unlock if want to use services other than Vonage. No QoS.

My first VOIP. Experiences are positive so far. Just make sure you understand the limitations with VOIP services such as power, broadband, and VOIP service outages. I travel quite frequently, so I can bring this with me without outrages telephone bills.

Sipura 2000 in linksys clothes

Strengths: Excellent voip adapter. contains two lines and both could be independently configured for two services

Weakness: locked to vonage. Linksys PAP2-NA model is unlocked version which is available freely. PAP2 is locked to vonage.

got it free after rebate from staples. the hardware is from one of the best voip companies around (sipura). linksys has just put it's web front end. you can even load the sipura 2000 firmware and it will work flawlessly.

Good Device

Strengths: Works perfect with Vonage

Weakness: Have not find any

Light is too bright, may need to adjust that a little. but you can tape it if you want. There are many useful information about this product on Internet. Search it and you will not regret you bought it.

Very bad customer service

Strengths: Simple and Easy Installation, Sound quality is superb.

Weakness: Poor customer service, slow internet speed

Sound quality is superb. I was prepared to suffer some degradation in sound quality in exchange for saving 50% of my phone bill, but the sound is great!

Don't waste your time unless you're absolutely certain you'll never have to call CS. BTW, vonage slows my internet to almost a crawl unless i put the voice quality setting to the absolute lowest. and of course, I'm using 2 routers now which makes things more complicated than they should be. The only reason I give it any stars at all is for the savings and for the voicemail being emailed to you as a sound attachment.

Linksys PAP2 VoIP Gateway

Strengths: Very easy to install, very good sound quality, great appearance

Weakness: No Qos

I have been using this one for more than 15 days. The quality of this adapter is crystal, I like it very much. Even better than the packet8 adapter. Just plug it in, connect it to the cable modem or DSL, connect your telephone. You are good to go. I haven't try the e911 or the fax function yet, hope that will also be good.
