5 Star Review Great Quality for Little $

Strengths:

Easy to install. Easy to Use. Great for the first time user.

Weaknesses:

None yet found.

Posted Apr 10, 2007 - This is my first web cam and it's been a great experience. I looked at several different models on pricegrabber before choosing this one and I'm glad I did. I only paid $25 and will be getting a $5 rebate. The current MS model in stores is over $50. Once I got finally got it, I had it up and running in no time. I barely glanced at the written instructions. Within 30 minutes of getting it, I was online using it. The cam looked well designed online, but it's actually even better. It's design allows it to be pointed in almost any direction. The base is rubberized, which is really nice. Just tonight, I realized that you could open up the base so that it hangs on to the top of the monitor. Image quality is great. Most of the buddies I use it with have much more expensice cams and their images are inferior. I haven't used the mic yet, so I don't know how well it functions.

4 Star Review nice webcam

Strengths:

good image quality, easy installation, built-in microphone

Weaknesses:

not so far

Posted Feb 19, 2008 - Very nice webcam with good price. Very easy installation. I am suprised by its image quality, clear and clean. It performs well even under insufficient light. I already have my live message installed, so i didn't get any trouble in any of its features. The built-in microphone works wonderfully, i don't need to yell to make my voice heard.

4 Star Review Microsoft Lifecam vx1000 -- Fairly Good Video Conference & Skype, and Voice IM webcam.

Strengths:

1. Built in Microphone 2. Fairly flexible stand -- for desk/monitor or laptop lcd. 3. Very good Picture Quality for the price $25.00 4. Microsoft Product, so works with MS hware.

Weaknesses:

1. Drivers size - 180Mb 2. Windows Live Call button 3. Stand could use a spring

Posted Mar 12, 2007 - I picked this webcam up, and didn't think too much of it. I had purchased a LOGITECH QUICKCAM MESSENGER for a little higher price ($39.00) and figured this wouldn't get me anywhere. However, when I installed it (180Mb later) and used it on a few Skype, Yahoo Messenger and MSN IM calls, I was quite intrigued. The device's Mic also works with Cisco's IPCC soft phone which is nice. The Window's live call button could be a tad smaller, but I learn to not hit it as I move the cam around. I like this web cam! I've had a few for the last little while, and had been searching for a webcam that I can carry with me, when I travel, and really haven't found the right one for the right price. This is just about there & I may purchase a few for some family members & friends. Key reason -- Picture Quality & Sound Clarity. Other Cam's I had tested/tried: 1. Intel's WebCam CS630 -- Great Cam, No Mic, Not Laptop Portable. 2. Lotgitech brands of QuickCam Pro for Notebooks -- All suck becuase they use the chip cam & they are really bad in low light situations. Also the picture tends to be really grainy. These camera's can cost as much as $99-$120 with all the right-sound & right light technology .. which is a PIA. 3. Logitech QuickCam for Messenger ($39) this was OK, but I'd love to return this for a Msft vx1000. Hope this review helps & that you find a great deal for this webcam. Quite the keeper!

4 Star Review Great value

Strengths:

1. Easy to install 2. Works with non-MS programs such as Skype

Weaknesses:

No drivers for Windows 2000, must have XP. If you're using Vista you have to go download a separate driver.

Posted May 12, 2007 - This is my first camera. I want to use it with Skype. This turned out to be very easy, it worked right out of the box. I was disappointed to find there were no drivers for Windows 2000. I'm in the market for a new PC and also read that for Vista you need to download separate drivers from the MS website. Picture quality seems quite good to me, although i don't have much experience with these. I would recommend this to anyone who has Windows XP.

4 Star Review Microsoft VX-1000 Webcam

Strengths:

small, built in microphone.

Weaknesses:

image quality not great at low light

Posted Dec 30, 2007 - I got this camera as a present so I couldn't refuse it. I am not a Microsoft fan and particularly for me a Microsoft hardware product seems like something to avoid (remember the XBox360?). This is not the best camera on the market but it's not the worst either. If you can get it for below $20 it is a good value. The sensor used is 1.3 Megapixels it takes 640x480 pictures (VGA resolution) and video with 30 frames/sec. The only issue is that image quality is not that good at low lighting (it looks pixelized/grainy) but any camera in this class will have the same issue. But the fact that it has built in microphone which saves you an extra cable will offset the low lighting issue. It is also very compact and easy to use and the design allows it to rotate in any 3D angle which is very nice. Don't install the software provided in the CD which ships with the camera (100s of MBs of wasted "junkware") but instead let Windows detect the USB camera and when asked for the driver just point to the original CD which contains the driver. Another small issue is that the colors in the images taken with this camera are not really matching with the real life colors but for low end camera this is always the case. Overall I was positively surprised by this camera and for this class of webcams Microsoft VX-1000 webcam it's among one of the best!

5 Star Review LIFECAM VX-1000

Strengths:

Installs in minutes. Good quality picture for the money.

Weaknesses:

Should have an easier mount for notebook screens.

Posted Nov 5, 2006 - Microsoft LifeCam VX-1000 was recommended to me by a friend. As far as installation it was a piece of cake. The picture quality was very good, quite surprised actually considering it was less than $30.00. I only wish that the mount for the cam could be done on my notebook screen. Would recommend this product to all the grandparents who wish they could see their grandkids everyday. Would make a great Christmas gift.

4 Star Review Lifecam VX-1000

Strengths:

Good Basic Camera at a Good Price

Weaknesses:

Compatible only with Windows XP & Vista, Picture a Little Grainy

Posted Nov 18, 2007 - This is a decent camera that I purchases for $10 after rebate. It is easy to install but it only works with XP and Vista. The picture quality is good but is a little grainy. Overall it is a good product at a good price.

4 Star Review Decent webcam, but tied to Live Messenger

Strengths:

Easy setup, good image, not too expensive

Weaknesses:

Forces installation of Live Messenger in order to adjust microphone volume

Posted Jan 3, 2008 - Had no difficulty installing on Vista Home Premium machine. Was pleased with camera image, even in low light. Built-in microphone couldn't pick up my voice very well, and after spending time trying to figure out how to adjust it realized that I had to install Live Messenger before the audio/video adjustment wizard would load. This is annoying if you don't want to have Live Messenger installed, but probably most will want to install it anyway to use the integrated features.

4 Star Review Works Great

Strengths:

- Easy Set up - Works Well With Skype - Great Microphone

Weaknesses:

- Full Quality Only Available with Windows Messenger

Posted Oct 24, 2007 - It is a great little camera that works great with Skype. The set up was really easy and basically you just plug it in and go. It clips well onto a flat panel monitor and looks great too. The microphone is supurb, as long as you are using a good chatting program, which is where skype comes in. They go very well togethor and you can see and hear the other person very clearly, while you can be seen and heard quite well also.

1 Star Review No Windows 2000 driver exists

Strengths:

None

Weaknesses:

Does *not* support most Microsoft operating systems

Posted Dec 25, 2006 - There is no Windows 2000 driver, updating the office computer is not an option. Don't waste your time on this product unless you have XP. This camera is useless to me.

4 Star Review Good Webcam

Strengths:

Good value for money

Weaknesses:

None

Posted Nov 29, 2006 - Just got the webcam yesterday. It works great. The only thing I didn't like is the way the product was shipped. I got it from Burgess Computers. They used a huge box with lots of papers. Anyway I am happy with the webcam.

4 Star Review MS LIFECAM VX1000 - Good value for money.

Strengths:

1. Fast and Easy installation 2.Good video/voice quality. 3.Built in microphone. 4. Work great with Skype,Yahoo and MSN. 5. Price is cheap.6.Flexible stand -- work for CRT monitor, LCD or Laptop.

Weaknesses:

Must have XP or Vista. Doesnt work with Windows 2000. Also need separate driver download if using with Vista.

Posted Aug 7, 2007 - I bought this webcam from Circuit city when it was sale last week and it Worked right out of the box. I barely read the instructions in the manual. Also worked great with Skype, Yahoo Messenger and MSN IM calls. If you use microsft Live, just press the small button on top of the webcam and MS Live application automatically opens up. Picture quality is decent. You can either place it on a table on or open up the base so that it hangs on to the top of the monitor. The picture clarity is good even in darker rooms. I would surely recommend this.

4 Star Review Good webcam for the price

Strengths:

clear image, price and size.

Weaknesses:

Not plug an play... you need to install a driver, etc... then configure the Messenger to work with it. The "start messenger" button on top of it is not always working.

Posted 1 year ago - I had an old logitec webcam that finally died on me. Replaced it with this one for 20 dollars. completely worth it. Image is clear and effective and transits comfortably over my optical internet connection. It took some time (20 minutes) to get it to work. The button on top of it sometimes kicks in Messenger and other times it won't do anything... oh, well... for 20 bucks, I can't complain.

2 Star Review works with problems

Strengths:

looks nice

Weaknesses:

back ground noise

Posted Feb 27, 2008 - Although it was designed for desktop, this Adonis also fits on laptop. It works but there were back ground noise. The video kept flashing when the light condition was low. I also got a microphone on laptop and never found a way to choose which one to use. The default voice input device seems to be the one on laptop, not on WebCam. Will not buy again.
