good basic webcam

Strengths:

easy to install; clear image, clear voice;

Weaknesses:

can not configure the one-touch calling with other messager

Posted Feb 26, 2008 - It's a good basic webcam with clear video quality. It could adjust automatically based on light condition. one-touch calling is quite convenient except that it can not be configured with other messenger like Yahoo or something.

Microsoft VX-1000 Webcam

Strengths:

Works great with my Windows xp, built in microphone, good picture quality, easy to install, flexible stand

Weaknesses:

none so far

Posted Jan 23, 2008 - This is my second webcam. My first one is logitech quickcam orbit which was broken after 3 years' of using. This one, microsoft lifecam vx-1000, is cheaper than the previous considering the 1.3 Mega Sensor it used. Overall, I am happy with this webcam, it works flawlessly with my windows xp. It's very easy to install, and it just take me less than 15 minutes to get all the installation done. Good picture quality, better than I expect. I like its flexible stand, which is good for desktop monitor and laptop. Although it does not have the face tracking function as my old webcam does, I still happy with the new one.

Lifecam Vx-1000

Strengths:

Inexpensive

Weaknesses:

Low light situation

Posted Jan 21, 2008 - Good for general web chat. It is inexpensive you can buy a few for friends too. However, the video quality is only satisfactory, especially in low light situation. As expected in this price range.

Livecam VX-1000

Strengths:

Builtin MIC, Price, easy setup

Weaknesses:

Poor audio quality, poor picture quality

Posted Dec 29, 2007 - I have bought this to use for messenger chat. I had selected this product due to economical budget and built-in MIC. Due to extremely poor sound quality, I had no option left to return this product. Further, picture quality was okay (not excellent) and it was forcing to use microsoft messenger only. I was disappointed by this product.

Strengths:

Small, built-in microphone, easily adjustable in different directions

Only 640x480 resolution

Posted Dec 19, 2007 - As a low price webcam, the Microsoft VX-1000 is has many good features. First, it is very small and easy to be carried. Second, it has built-in mic so that you don't need to connect a mic into the computer mic port (the webcam uses only 1 usb port for the connection). It is also fully adjustable in nearly all directions. The focus is also adjustable. It even has a Live Call button. Since the camera has only 640x480 resolution, the video quality is not much better than many ordinary webcams.

Windows Vista Driver is not included

Strengths:

Posted Dec 7, 2007 - The picture and video quality is good and it has a built in microphone. I purchased it because my old webcam does not have a driver for windows driver. The LifeCam come with setup instructions that tell you to install the software from the CD first. However, the software on the CD does not install because it requires windows XP or later and I have window vista! Finally I went to Microsoft hardware site and downloaded the updated driver. It is a shame for Microsoft to claim the LifeCam supports vista on the product box but not include a driver for vista on the cd.

LIfeCam VX 1000 will change your life!

Strengths:

Great for the price! Pretty good picture! Great for instant messaging!

Weaknesses:

None that I know of.

Posted Aug 28, 2007 - My family and I have really enjoyed using the LifeCam VX 1000. We use it to communicate with family in India. It really brings the family closer together and has made my family very happy! Installation was easy! I recommend it, especially for the price!

Posted Aug 14, 2007 - I've owned quite a few microsoft hardwares, they are all very good performance, this one is no exception. This is a very basic webcam, does not have manual zoom in, zoom out feature. Other than that, it is very good to serve the purpose as a webcam. The webcam is very well built, sits on any surface very well. The dashboard is something different than creative ones, just some images overlay on the background. The webcam properties can be accessed thru the Lifecam software. The setups are the standards like brightness, constrast stuff. The image quality ranges from OK to good after adjusting these setting, although there are quite a few noises in the background. Also I like to check the mirror option since this mode makes more sense. The last hardware feature is a quick live call button on the webcam, push the button can quickly access to the available people on the msn live messenger; the same feature can be accessed on the desktop shortcut. Software side, it integrates with hotmail blog and e-mail very well. Overall, it's a very good webcam, I would recommend this one much over the creative ones.

Microsoft LifeCam VX-1000 -- great value and performance

Strengths:

Built-in microphone, Vista compatible, 30 fps video, video effects, Windows Live call botton

Weaknesses:

Only works with Windows XP and above, no tilt, pan or zoom, not high-speed USB

Posted Aug 8, 2007 - A good deal at Circuit City for $10 after rebate if you happened to get it. This is definitely an entry level webcam which is easy to install and set up with Windows XP. Overall video quality is great, seems to work fine even in low light. It should meet one's basic needs for online video chat, etc. Since it's probably the lowest webcam model from Microsoft, don't expect it to have all the features that other high models offer.

Good deal

Strengths:

Posted Feb 11, 2007 - This is a very good camera for your buck (I spent $27 at B&H NYC) , the installation was fast and easy, the control panel is straight forward, and the picture quality is overall good. It gets grainy but for the price it’s great (after all it’s only a webcam not a professional DV or stills camera…). Even in low light, or dark rooms it picks up a good picture, and the microphone sensitive for low sounds in the room. Just remember it’s manual focus so from time to time you’ll have to adjust, that but not too often, so if you want nice stills and nice videos with your XP PC or Vista, without spending too much money, that’s your pick.

Pretty nice camera

Posted Jan 31, 2007 - microsoft live works very well with this camera. the small button on the top is very useful for accessing live, just click it and it automatically opens into live. i actually can have my laptop filled up with video and still have pretty good audio (i would compare it to cell phone quality). overall a very good camera for the price.
