Strengths:

Good LCD monitor clip/stand. Good image/video capture for a webcam. Long USB cable. Build in Microphone.

Weaknesses:

Software not too stable. Installing failed the first time. No zoom.

Posted Aug 20, 2005 - The software/driver install didn't succeed for me the first time. I went and downloaded the newest driver from Logitech website and re-installed. The second time was successful. Overall, good webcam in terms of picture quality, especially for IM and quick snapshot/video taking. Of course, always need to keep in mind that it's a webcam, and not a digital camera or camcorder, so don't compare against those. I'd prefer the software not to be integrated so much into the Windows desktop. i.e. the webcam and the folder where it stores the videos/pictures are in special system folders that appears in the "My Computer" folder. I prefer to be able to pick where to store the captured content. Maybe it's part of the installation that I missed, since my installation didn't go smoothly. For the price, especially if the rebate comes through from Logitech, then I'm willing to look over the weakneses.

4 Star Review Overall, pretty good

Strengths:

The attachment that fits on my flat panel moniter pivots so I can point the lens where ever I need it.

Weaknesses:

Posted Aug 6, 2005 - I have to say the only reason I'm giving this four stars instead of five is this is my first web cam so I don't know what else is out there. The mic works perfect, I've been able to have full conversations with my friends while the video is streaming, and it does stream beautifully. My best friend who lives an hour away (we got them to keep in touch) was impressed with the quality. It's almost like television it's that good. The camera also comes with 1.3 megapixel still camera capabilities. I've already used this feature and the shots are great. Much better quality than I would expect from a web cam.

Strengths:

good image quantity, easy to install, good inbuilt microphone

Weaknesses:

a little dim when taking picture or recording video

Posted Aug 1, 2005 - I bought it for my girlfriend form Amazon. It has good image quantity. I compare it with my Logitech Qucikcam Pro 4000 and find that the image is better than Pro 4000. The only deficiency is that the image is a little dimmer than my Pro 4000, but you can compensate it by using the low light filter in the camera setting software. Anyway, it is a good webcam and cheaper than Pro 4000. I like it and recommend to buy.

Posted May 28, 2005 - Nice looking at monitor but finding little hard to move. Built in micro phone is added feature. Quality/calrity is less than I expected. But good value for the cost paid. Nice to use for chatting while seeing the other side of person. Finding it little hard to install the software but usage is easy

Strengths:

Good image quality, cool looking, built-in microphone, easy installation, price, integrates well the IMs.

Weaknesses:

Fixed focus, USB 1.1, average low light performance, no motion sensor feature, short USB cable.

Posted Aug 27, 2005 - I was pleasantly surprised with the performance of this web cam. There aren't a lot of negatives with this webcam considering its price range. However, the in built mic is kind of good as well as bad. It works well but you will have to stay close to the cam, and the fact that it has fixed focus does not help much either. Installation is a breeze and the web cam integrates well with the IMs'. Low light perfomance is not the best but you can circumvent by using the low light filter . It also seems to be missing the motion sensor feature (can act as a security webcam ), which comes with most of the creative webcams.For $20 (after rebates) this is one of the best webcams in the market.

5 Star Review Very good webcam

Strengths:

Good image quality, good clip for LCD monitor, very good microfone, price.

Posted Aug 23, 2005 - I've been using this webcam for 2 weeks and everybody that I chat with are happy with the good image and sound quality. The webcam and the clip for LCD monitors are made with very good rubber material and as the clip is flexible you can make the best adjustment for your monitor. For me the strongest point is the built-in microphone because it works great and I can save space on my desk without my old microphone and you can save the mic connection for another device. The installation is easy but install first the software and drivers before connect the camera for the first time.

Strengths:

30 fps, good resolution, built in mic, great value!

Weaknesses:

some programs, like AIM, had trouble finding the built in mic, and required a separate mic using the sound card mic port (instead of the USB). all other programs were fine. Probably AIM's fault.

Posted Apr 19, 2008 - I have not used the Pro 4000, but in my opinion the price of the Communicate STX makes it a far better choice. The only difference between this one and the Pro 4000 is that the Pro 4000 has one level higher resolution. In my opinion, the resolution of the STX is perfect just for chatting, seeing friends' faces, and taking some quick pics. The STX has 30 frames per second (above average, and the same value as the Pro), and it also has the built in microphone, which is really everything you could ask for. I bought two of these STXs during a special buy one get one free rebate offer, it was great. You can't beat that price, and I would highly recommend these webcams. UPDATE: With the original drivers and software for this webcam, I had huge problems for two years where the mic would pick up feedback or something and start screeching. It was very strange because this would ONLY occur during video chat, and NEVER during audio-only chat (thus, the problem was not the mic or my speakers, and it occurred on multiple computers in multiple locations). Anyway, about a year ago Logitech came out with a driver/software update and the problem has not occurred since. It works great now, but for a long time I was frustrated with this webcam.

4 Star Review I like it.

Strengths:

Good image quality, very good price ($20 rebates from 8/1/2005-8/31/2005). The adjustable clip and base are great.

Weaknesses:

The Software cannot run in my OS. I have to download the new version from Logitech.com.

Posted Aug 24, 2005 - The color of this webcam is cool! The image quality is very good in this price range ( < $50). But it is hard to install. I suggest you to download the newer version from logitech.com, mine is Version: 8.4.8 build 1034A. BTW, you'd better open the low light filter in logitech control panel at night. Finally, if I can get the rebate from Logitech, I'm willing to ignore the weaknesses.

Strengths:

economical, works ok, easy to configure, can be used on laptop as well as desktop with switchable bases

Weaknesses:

comparatively large in size for notebooks, mediocre color reproduction / saturation

Posted Apr 27, 2006 - i got this webcam when a circuit city rebate was going on for 30 bucks .. effectively bringing down the price to 20 USD ! still i didn’t feel it was good enough for that .. i was comparing it against 'Logitech Quick Cam Fusion Webcam' in the same conditions / same place on an adjacent laptop of a friend and the difference in image quality was quite obvious.. altho it is satisfactory for the rate, wouldnt rate it as the best webcam around .. the QuickCam Fusion is far better in image quality with a wider lens ..

4 Star Review quite decent webcam

Strengths:

very nice picture quality. Smooth video. Much better than the Logitech Quickcam chat I had used. Also it comes with a adjustable clip and a base.

Weaknesses:

I don't like the fixed focus. I would like adjusting the focus so that sometimes you could change the distance from the cam/monitor. Mic doesn't seem to be very sensitive if I sit away.

Posted Aug 22, 2005 - A nice webcam, very good for internet chatting, if you mostly sit at the same spot. If you are looking for a budget webcam, I highly recommend this one. Definitely worth the money. The base and clip together make it flexible to use.

Posted Aug 23, 2005 - I like this camera .I got it from buy.com . However, the picture looks noisy and blurry. I am kind of disappointed. But for price of 16 bucks it is ok .It is ok to buy if you are not using web cam much .

Posted May 11, 2005 - i like this webcam very much. it's a little difficult to move around but it does look nice on top of my monitor. the design is very sleak compared to other web cams. the mount that comes with it is a little odd but it does it's job. the picture quality is decent but not exactly the best. it can take pictures but 1-2 mega- pixels at best.

Posted Aug 8, 2005 - I am really impressed with this product. Very sharp and clear image capture compared to most of the webcams. The flexible clip holds well to my laptop screen. I am satisfied for choosing this as my first webcam buy. The regular price is a bit high but could manage rebate.

Strengths:

Inexpensive, easy to set up, and decent quality for everyday use

Weaknesses:

Doesn't have the high resolution of more expensive ones or the head tracking software

Posted Aug 22, 2005 - The camera definitely looks very nice, especially if you have a black monitor like the Dell LCDs. It is stable on the monitor with the included mount. It also hooks onto laptops but isn't as secure. I would definitely recommend this camera, especially if you can get it on sale or with a rebate. The microphone is on top of the lens, which worried me at first, since some other cameras come with separate mics that can be placed closer to the user. However, it has worked well so far.
