Works well/trouble-free, but price can be a bit hefty
The item works, and works well
Some product packaging needs better instructions for set-up; price should be lower; does not attain "full speed" (but none seemingly do)
Posted Sep 26, 2005 - Having purchased a TIVO unit and with a telephone jack across the room, and having grown tired of a phone cord going across the room, I looked into wireless jack modems and the Belkin unit seemed to get the highest rating out there. (Whether simply by chance, who knows.) I purchased that version, and I'm pleased that I did. Although the set-up was easy, the packaging for the unit I purchased didn't come with detailed instructions; fortunately, I was able to get them elsewhere to figure out the "trick" of pushing in the reset-like button on one of the units when the 2 units are plugged in next to each other--this coordinates their transmission codes, so the units can "speak" to each other (and the units then can be unplugged and moved to where they will be used). Originally, the transmission process worked fine, but then couldn't for days. It's been fine for over a month, now--seemingly, this was a 1-time event. The transmission now is fine and consistently connects, and transfers at a 29K or so speed. This is below a full 56K or so speed which is what the literature says the transmission may be--however, it doesn't look like any of these devices gets that high and this speed seems to be the top that these units get to. As I am using the modem jack simply for TIVO transmission, that is fine for me. The only further thought is the price--the Belkin seems to be more costly than other units. The price really should be lower, although it also sometimes can be found at eBay for around $30 or so. At that price, it's a good deal. Am happy I have it--no more tripping on the phone cord!
