5 Star Review Mac OS X 10.3.9 / Pismo Compatible

Strengths:

Native Support in OS X 10.3.9. and 10.4. Lowest price for a Mac OS X compatible 802.11g card.

Weaknesses:

None so far.

Posted May 1, 2006 - I am using Ver. 1101 of this card in my Pismo Powerbook, running OS X 10.3.9. Since this card uses the Broadcom chipset, my PowerBook automatically recognizes it and allows me to set it up using the original Airport software. I am using WPA2 Personal encryption for additional security. Belkin does not say that this card is Mac OS X compatible and does not provide Mac drivers for it, but it works fine. Another reviewer mentioned that it works in Mac OS X 10.4 as well, but he did not mention the version number of his card. I also tried Belkin F5D7010 version 5000, but it is not Mac compatible as it does not use the Broadcom chipset. I paid $40 for this on sale at Circuit City.

1 Star Review 125mbps? I think not!

Strengths:

Easy to use, easy to setup

Weaknesses:

Does not perform above 54mbps

Posted Feb 24, 2007 - I have a 125mbps router so I thought I'd buy a 125mbps wireless card - makes sense right? This isn't the case. The card will only run at a speed of 54mbps even after playing around with every setting available. Well after an hour of being on the phone to Belkin they said that having a 125mbps card and router cancels each other so i can only get 54mbps, and that in actual fact a 125mbps card will only run at 54mbps! After this I decided the support Agent hadn't got a clue what he was talking about so I asked to speak to a "Senior Technician" (probably a random guy sitting next to him!) Another hour later having updated drivers from the website and changing the wireless mode... chanel.... colour etc they came to the conclusion that the brand new card was faulty! They are now sending me a new one! I might also add that I made an online Technical Support Request and 2 days later nobody has emailed me... I will also add that I am on my 4th belkin F5d7633/F5d7632 replacement router! I am really disappointed with Belkin, I did try to switch to Netgear but they advertise also advertise their cards as 108mbps but only work with netgear routers (by the way, they don't advertise this or put it anywhere on the product or in the manual!!!). All in all - P'd off! I'm going to buy an Apple Airport Extreme and a boring ethernet router and live a trouble free life!!

3 Star Review Pay attention to the OS

Strengths:

Easy install.

Weaknesses:

Older version (v.1000) will be needed for Win98 or WinME

Posted 1 year ago - Even though the product says it works on older Windows Operating Systems, the current version (V.2000) works only with XP and Vista. If you need to work with an older OS (98 or ME) you will need Ver.1000.

Thank you for the valuable feedback!

Weaknesses:

none

Posted May 14, 2007 - I've had this wireless card for 2 months, a replacement for the D-Link I had that broke. Unless you have an N modem, this is the best you can get for the buck.
