U.S. Robotics Model 8022 22 Mbps Wireless Cable/DSL Router is easy to set up and use; it installs in three simple steps. Wireless convenience and ease of use means you can share your high speed Internet connection across multiple computers, getting everyone online at the same time. The U.S. Robotics family of 22 Mbps wireless networking products provides double the transmission speed, greater range, and better area coverage than existing 11Mbps products. minimize

4 Star ReviewI have had the USR8022 since November. In general ...

Strengths:

Latest version of firmware (v3.1) is stable. No crashes since install. Supports MAC address control. Seems solid/secure from WAN or Wireless intrusion.

Weaknesses:

Two ethernet ports only - requires additional hub. Print server failed to handle bidirectional in earlier firmware - haven't checked lately.

Posted May 5, 2003 - I have had the USR8022 since November. In general, I have found the hardware to work okay - but inconsistently. That changed with the 3.1 firmware - released in March. I installed it two weeks ago, and I find that the product is much more stable and secure. I use the wireless network for two laptops with wireless cards. One has great reception everywhere. The other, using a Linksys card, has spotty reception. I do not know why. I also have two desktops in a room on the other side of my house. These are connected to a hub, which in turn connects to a USR2249 Wireless Access Point. With MAC address controlling wireless association, the MACs of the desktops must be in the router's MAC association table, or they are unable to connect to the router. I found that the print server was problematic with the old firmware - I haven't tested the print server with the v3.1. If it is fixed, I will report in an update.

3 Star ReviewThe usr2216 wireless cards were crashing my XP Pro ...

Strengths:

Works, comes with set-up card that is helpfull, and printer support drivers.

Weaknesses:

It like USR's other products has little support, terrible tech, no toll free support number, and it lacks the range they state.

Posted May 26, 2004 - The usr2216 wireless cards were crashing my XP Professional computers until they saw this Gateway with my DSL Efficient Network from Alltel plug-ed into it. USR was no help, after $20 of long distance calls trouble shooting the cards with them, I decided enough was enough and purchased this USR8022 just to see what would happen. I finally had a semi-operable network, no thanks to USR tech with whom I consulted before purchasing the USR2216's, which they had said was all I needed. The individual computers would not interact but did see the USR8022 and would access my DSL conection if with-in 30' of the USR8022. The computers would only interact before erratically with each other with them situated 6' apart. In the end they had told me I had an environment problem. I didn't bother to tell them I live in what is basically a farming community with no sources of interference anywhere near my home which is of brick exterior and also sits over 350' from any other home in the area and surrounded by woods. I don't recommend USR unless you like talking long distance with un-knowlegeable people who will lie to you at your expense. D-Link's website was my source of help that worked. ***UPDATE Dec.2,'03*** USR has new software(54Mbps.Upgrades)that has given my cards full proper operation at 22Mbps. now, but the new supported software causes the print server, which did work, to malfunction and the range is still not what they originally stated although it is better.
