The Linksys Wireless-G Broadband Router is really three devices in one box. First, there's the Wireless Access Point, which lets you connect Wireless-G or Wireless-B devices to the network. There's also a built-in 4-port full-duplex 10/100 Switch to connect your wired-Ethernet devices. Connect four PCs directly, or daisy-chain out to more hubs and switches to create as big a network as you need. Finally, the Router function ties it all together and lets your whole network share a high-speed cable or DSL Internet connection. To protect your data and privacy, the Wireless-G Broadband Router can encrypt all wireless transmissions. The Router can serve as a DHCP Server, has NAT technology to protect against Internet intruders, supports VPN pass-through, and can be configured to filter internal users' access to the Internet. Configuration is a snap with the web browser-based configuration utility. minimize

Linksys WRT54G Wireless Router

Discussion of Linksys WRT54G Wireless Router

Posted Dec 28, 2007 - I went out and bought one of these at Best Buy today. Before this I had a separate Router & Airport base (802.11g wireless) connected to my Macintosh tower, 2 wireless laptops and an iPhone. This, plus minor networking experience on the Windows platform may have helped me out, but I've got to say that I have had no problems in the setup or performance in the few hours that I've had it. As a Macintosh owner, the only thing the CD holds of any interest is the user's manual (in PDF format). Copy this to your hard drive if you want quick and easy access to it, but otherwise ignore the CD and the labels on the router extolling you to not even think about connecting it before you have run the CD. (You can safely ignoring threats about what it will do to you pet goldfish and other household pets if you DON'T install the CD first. First, I highly recommend that you use Firefox instead of Safari. For some reason if I changed more than one setting before clicking "Save Settings" I would get an error about the connection being dropped, and when I would go back to the page that I was in, it would be back at the defaults. Also, Wireless/Wireless MAC Filter/Edit MAC List would not save the changes, so it was at this point that I changed over to Firefox and had no further problems. Also, make sure that you follow the checklist on Page 6, Chapter 2 "Wireless Securty Checklist" That said, this is not likely a good device for the Mac owner who "has no idea what all those settings are," unless you have an Intel Mac running Windows and can run the install CD. If not, but you are comfortable with configuring a router, this seems to be a good, solid solution.

Shared DSL - router not working.

Discussion of Linksys WRT54G Wireless Router

Posted Oct 11, 2006 - I have a Linksys router and I am trying to connect my computer and my roommates to a network. However I live in a building that provides a shared DSL connection through ethernet port. When I connect my router to the ethernet port and my PC to the router I have no connectivity. I am unable to get any connection and cannot set up the router to start a network. I called tech support who weren't able to help me. Do you have any suggestions as to what I might do.

Discussion of Linksys WRT54G Wireless Router

Posted Mar 20, 2006 - I'm running 2 PCs thru the back (wired), and 2 wirelessly. Painless. Right out of the box it works beautifully. This is my first experience with this type of gadget; I'm no expert. By following the instructions and using common sense, this thing has made me a believer in Linksys. I couldn't be happier.
