2.5 Star ReviewXbox 360 | 120GB Elite

Posted 3 months ago - The successor to Microsofts first video game console, the Xbox. The Xbox 360 expands upon the originals strong PC roots while being positioned as the complete center of media integration with many built in functions and a high level of Internet connectivity. The 360 is the first next-gen console in what Microsoft touts as the HD-Era, the seventh generation of consoles, which includes the Playstation 3 and Nintendo Wii. With the Xbox 360 Microsoft has advanced graphical capabilities to the next-generation featuring a 3-core CPU from IBM and a new custom-built graphics card from ATi. Out of the three seventh generation console from a hardware perspective the 360 shares the most similarity to consoles in the sixth, there are no drastic changes to the controller, a standard DVD drive and the use of memory cards. One of the biggest changes that Microsoft made in its transition from Xbox to 360 is ... PROS: (1) Excellent online gaming support with Xbox Live! (2) Broad selection of titles. (3) Full 1080p HD gaming and 5.1 Dolby Digital Surround Sound. (4) Large selection of games (5) PC connection to play video and audio files (Windows XP Media Center or Vista) ... CONS: (1) Have to pay a subscription for online gaming (Gold subscription = $50/year) (2) Very loud fans and disk drive (3) Prices of Xbox360 Marketplace items are steep (4) Overheating issues. (5) Slow to fix and return broken consoles - Read Full Review

4 Star ReviewMicrosoft Xbox 360 Elite

Posted Apr 27, 2007 - THE GOOD: Excellent selection of games, including many 360-only exclusives; all games are in native high-definition; user-friendly Dashboard interface; supports wireless controllers and accessories; Xbox Live service offers online multiplayer (with matchmaking and voice chat) and content downloads for most games; backward compatible with many--but not all--original Xbox titles; doubles as a superior digital media hub and Windows Media extender; online Marketplace allows easy purchases of minigames, add-on gaming content, high-def movies, and TV shows. THE BAD: The Elite fails to correct most of the annoyances of the original 360 version: the noisy DVD drive and cooling fan; a gigantic, oversize power supply; no built-in wireless networking; only three USB ports; a substandard DVD player; support for next-gen HD DVD movies requires a bulky external accessory; online gaming requires a paid subscription to Xbox Live; proprietary wireless format limits third-party accessories. THE BOTTOM LINE: While its neither a must-have upgrade for existing 360 owners nor as feature-packed as the PS3, the Xbox 360 Elites combination of top-notch gaming and digital media features make it the current game console of choice. - Read Full Review

4.5 Star ReviewMicrosoft Xbox 360 Elite

Posted Aug 24, 2007 - The Xbox 360 Elite may not address the noise pollution issue that has plagued Microsofts console since launch, but it does bring some key new features to the platform. HDMI support is a welcome addition, while the increased hard disk capacity will definitely be needed when the full Video Marketplace launches in Europe. The lack of an integrated HD DVD drive could well be a missed opportunity though, especially considering that there are no plans for a black external HD DVD drive to match the Elite. That said, the sub £300 price point makes the Elite a very attractive prospect for anyone looking to move up to high definition gaming, while the very strong catalogue of titles keeps Microsoft well ahead of Sony in the next gen console race. - Read Full Review
