4 Star Review Xbox 360 Bundle w/ Forza and Ultimate Alliance

Strengths:

Has the greatest collection of games available at this moment. Superb online capabilities. Excellent media center.

Weaknesses:

Questionable reliability with the 3 rings of death!!! Newer 65 nm chips being integrated, but you won't know if you have a new model until you get the package.

Posted Dec 16, 2007 - This is an excellent bundle because it includes 2 solid games and the HDMI port (on selected bundles), which allows high definition if you have a compatible HDTV. And if you purchase now and meet certain requirements, you may qualify for a free Halo 3 game. That is 2 if not 3 games for free just for buying this season (Winter '07). It is a great time to buy and a great system to have. I'm concerned about the system suffering from the three rings of death but Microsoft will extend the warranty for up to three years for this particular issue. The newer chips using 65 nm technology should theoretically be safer but you can't tell which chipset you have without examining the system closely, meaning you have to have it in your hands. All in all, a great system for a solid price. Throw in a few free games and it is a no brainer.

3 Star Review best for the 20-30 age range

Strengths:

some of the best games in the industry on this console -bioshock -orange box -assasins creed -mass effect -call of duty 4 -dirt -halo -gears of war wireless everything interchangeable hard drives hdmi

Weaknesses:

-very loud when playing -overheating problems -dont bump the console when playing or it will scratch the disc -external hd-player -most girls and younger children dont have very many game options.

Posted Feb 2, 2008 - i work at Fred Meyer in the electronics department and have to know pretty much everything about every electronic gadget. I am also a 21 yr old male college student, living by my self. Now i also did plenty of research about which console was right for me and i decided that, because 360 the had the game line-up i wanted to play, media playing options, hdmi and graphics quality i would give it a shot. So after a few months of playing my own personal console i would have to say i am impressed but i would probably buy one in august when major improvements are set to roll out. Not only will it be quieter, with a new motherboard, chipset and graphics but they will almost certainly have an internal hd-player. With advancements in manufacturing processes and reduced material the console will cost less overall, but probably about the same $349 after adding the hd-player. I would also like to add that if you are looking for a console for the average girl or a younger child you should probably be looking at the Wii, DS or PSP. -yes Fred me yer does occasionally have Wii's i see them about every month, but they go fast and please dont ask if we know when were suppose to get any because we REALLY DONT KNOW! Microsoft just doesn't have the games the would entertain someone looking for teen rated or lower fun. Most games are violent, bloody, scary and loud. Thats another thing you will almost certainly need to have surround sound when you play these games because it will make it 10x better, so thats why i said before i live by myself, because your girlfriend will hate you for the constant noise, lack of attention given to her and use of the tv. Overall this is a great system for the die hard xbox fan, a little loud OK, kinda sounds like a shopvac), but i would wait for the hd....

5 Star Review Great gaming system!

Strengths:

Incredible graphics even when you play your old XBOX games. Wireless controllers give you extra freedom. Forza Motorsport 2 is a blast to play and makes this bundle a great deal.

Weaknesses:

None that I can find yet!

Posted Jan 15, 2008 - The XBOX 360 is a great gaming system and this premium bundle is a very good buy. You get the 20 gb system, one wireless controller with AAA batteries, and two games (these are full games in a promo package) -- Forza Motorsport 2 and Marvel Ultimate Alliance. I love Forza Motorsport 2! The racing is incredibly lifelike. You'll want to get an extra controller to race against a friend! The graphics are so good on our regular TV and I can only imagine what they would be like on an HDTV! No problems with overheating or the red light of doom. However, I did get a "Falcon" system instead of the older "Zephyr." I am not sure that all Premium Consoles are Falcons, but they should be unless they are old stock. I have been using this system for about one month and it has given me no problems whatsoever. You will also want to get an XBOX 360 Plug and Play kit (retail is approx. $20) to recharge the controller instead of using batteries. However, this package really does contain everything you need to get started. So don't hesitate -- get out there and play!

Strengths:

Includes two games, hard drive, wireless controller, awesome graphics, decent price, supported by the XBOX LIVE online community

Weaknesses:

Heat production, high price of HDMI cable, reliability, IT DOESN'T SUPPORT 16:10 monitors

Posted Dec 29, 2007 - The xbox 360 has excellent games and an excellent online community, but does have some faults. First off it does not have any resolutions supporting 16:10 monitors, which many gamers use through the HDMI/VGA connections. If your monitor doesn't support a 1:1 pixel mode (to add black bars to top and bottom) it will stretch the image. This leads to another problem; the HDMI port is there, but since the included cable blocks it you must buy microsoft's HDMI cable for 50$ if you still need component/optical audio output. Keep in mind that an HDMI cable can be purchased for 10 dollars and the component/optical sound connections are included on the standard cable which also can be purchased for 10 dollars, giving a total retail value for the microsoft set of about 20 dollars, which they force onto us at 50 dollars.

Posted Mar 29, 2008 - This is an excellent bundle that comes with the hard drive (needed to download and save game demos on the xbox) and 2 full games which are pretty good too, making the bundle a good value. i got the newer batch of these that supposedly run cooler.

Which suited my impatience being very much :) The machine was in absolutely perfect condition, ran like a charm! All parts were there, and packaged neatly. Officially my 'best friend'! I was very impressed. All my questions were answered through email and even through a phone call promptly and efficiently. Would do business with again! A++++

Posted Feb 26, 2008 - I got the Xbox 360 for Christmas. Was I surprised!! At first I though I only got the one free game bundled with it, but I finally realized both games were in one case. LOL. I also got Halo 3 Legendary Edition for Christmas and Asssassin's Creed PLus Bioshock. I have finished all but Bioshock. It has provided me with hours of entertainment. I would recommend this console many times over. I wanted the PS3, but I think for the money this is great!

Posted Jan 21, 2008 - I waited long enough to get the Falcon version of XBOX 360 console which they say has less heat issue which might help with the hardware issue (RROD). Nice system, Included 2 games are decent and can be played with other family who are not serious gamers.

Posted Jan 14, 2008 - I finally succumbed into the next generation of gaming systems. Ive been a loyal playstation owner and decided to get the 360 since the PS3 was still high priced and the library of games is still lacking. After doing some research regarding this system (heating problems, red ring of death, etc.) went out and found this holiday bundle with the newest Falcon chip and lower energy consumption. I'm impressed with the graphics and how advanced this system is compared to the last generation systems. I found myself playing for hours and the on-line feature is a great addition. Too bad Microsoft charges the user for going on-line. Game prices are dropping now so I know Ill be a happy camper for awhile.

4 Star Review X-box 360 Bundle w/Ultimate Alliance and Forza 2

Strengths:

Comes with bundled software. I think we got a Falcon version which is supposed to run cooler and is less likely to encounter the "RROD" or "Red ring of death". Software selection

Weaknesses:

While ours is supposed to run cooler, it still puts out a lot of heat. Make certain you have good ventilation. Accessories seem to cost more than other systems.

Posted Jan 10, 2008 - We got this for Christmas as the Wii wasn't available. I think we got the better deal. There isn't that much of a selection for the WII. The X-box 360 has been a family favorite! The kids have really enjoyed the Ultimate Alliance Software. I don't think anybody has tried Forza 2 yet. We also got Call of Duty 3, Ghost Recon, Madden 2007, and NBA 2007. We bought Call of Duty 3 new, and the other used. The Ultimate Alliance software that came with it, is the favorite. We bought a couple wired remotes. I was able to get a rebate on a MS wire controller to put it at $20, and Walmart has a generic brand controller for $20. We bought a used wireless controller, so that gave us two wired and two wireless. We have really enjoyed it. I definitely recommend it! I think we still might get a Wii, but it probably won't be until there are some serious pricebreaks, and it won't be as a replacement for the X-box 360!

4 Star Review Game System Between PS3 and Wii.

Strengths:

Amazing graphics, more varieties of games, HD upgradable, online gaming and better than the Arcade version.

Weaknesses:

System heat and loudness and the constant worry for the RROD.

Posted Jan 9, 2008 - Actually, I bought this and Wii for Christmas since I was able to get deals on both of them. Wii is for the wife and myself to play more interactive gaming and a little nostalgic of my childhood growing up with Zelda and Mario. Xbox 360 is more for the adult in me and my brothers for intense action and realism. The selection of games are immense so they will keep me busy forever. Going from regular video cable to HDMI is really night and day. The clarity is a little better and the color saturation is more noticeable with the upgrade. Can't wait until HD games start coming up and I'll upgrade with an HD driver. Reason I bought this bundle was the added discount, 2 free games and the 20GB HD over the Arcade version. Console built solid but heavy. Some of my concerns are listed in the "Weaknesses" area. Yes, MS has extended the warranty to 3 years for RROD, but just the hassle of shipping the system and have nothing to play for weeks is a constant concern. The console tends to get really hot if you don't give it enough ventilation. I'm playing to 1 of the accessory that cools the system down or will just put a fan next to it. I don't know how to fix the loudness, though. All in all, this bundle was a great purchase for the price and what was offered. I would have given it a 5-star if the bundle I gotten was with the Falcon chip instead of the older version. Read somewhere people was able to score the new version from the same place I bought. With the Falcon, it would have decrease the chance of RROD and use less power, thus less heat and loudness.

Strengths:

2 free games to help you get started. Cheaper than PS3. Works for those without HDTV. Microsoft 3 year warranty.

Weaknesses:

Hard Drive can be noisy. Worried about reviews on Red Ring of Death (RROD).

Posted Dec 21, 2007 - I own a Wii and a PS2 and now an Xbox360. Each gaming console is different and I like that the Xbox360 comes with some really good games - BioShock, Halo3, Gears of War to name a few. I play with my Wii when friends are over or for parties and I play with my PS2 and Xbox360 when I want some serious gaming :). I was worried about the RROD issues I have been reading about and that's why I waited so long to buy one, but with Microsoft's 3 year warranty, I'm not worried anymore. It's been 2+ weeks playing a few days with Halo3 and have not had any issues. I also don't have an HDTV and like that I can play with the next generation games without upgrading my TV for now. The cheaper price over the PS3 sealed the deal.
