4 Star Review A pretty fun First Person with a really nice box

Strengths:

Music is pretty good, Gun models and lighting effects are excellent, Decent gameplay and varied guns, Multiple online play modes including co-op!

Weaknesses:

Some character models and animations look weak, a bit too slow for my tastes, non existant story, should have more checkpoints.

Posted Nov 30, 2005 - This game is a pretty decent game for the 360 and definetly a solid title. It does not suit my tastes as much as other people. I prefer to play games like Rocket Arena 3 for the PC or Quake 4 which are more fast paced. The lack of the jump button or keyboard and mouse prevents me from ever wanting to play this competitively in deathmatch. However the cooperative mode is relatively fun and the gun models are some of the best i've ever seen. The game itself is fun but to me rather forgettable. The characters don't even come close to the ones from Halo nor are they particularly memorable. This game is riddled with highs and lows. At certain points of the game it can be really enjoyable but then it hits you some really horrible game design. Many of the problems could have been relieved by more checkpoints, after all who likes playing over stuff again for 5 times in a row..... I know there are people out there that would enjoy this game far more than I did so while I personally felt it was a 3 stars overall experience, i'd have to give it 4 stars to give it fair credit.

4 Star Review Good, but could be better

Strengths:

Co-op is always a plus, supports XBL, has a nifty case if you get the limited edition

Weaknesses:

Graphics occasionally seem like "Xbox 1.5"-style, controls are a tad confusing

Posted Jun 29, 2006 - Bought this game full-price not too long ago just to have something to play on my new 360, and while I wouldn't necessarily say it's worth $60, it's not too bad. Being a first-person shooter, something that doesn't have to work too hard to please me, the single-player and XBL deathmatch are entertaining. The single-player missions do have sort of a slow pace to them, though, so I'd recommend coop over solo. Arrows on the ground leading you to your teammate or objective are convenient. Coming from the Halo camp, though, the controls are slightly confusing and the game doesn't do a very good job of informing you how they work. (which is what the manual is for, sure, but still..) The graphics, while good, could've been slightly better given that this is a 360 title and all. I wasn't particularly fond of things looking choppy when turning, but I didn't notice that until after updating my dashboard, so perhaps the problem lies within that. Audio suffices, but the music to the introductory cutscene is awful. All in all, the game isn't too bad if you're as fond of shooters as I am, but it could use some improvements here and there.

5 Star Review Hot graphics, excellent pacing, great weapons

Strengths:

Terrific shooting action with cool weapons, knockout graphics if you have a projector or HDTV; some of the extras in the Collector's edition are actuallya

Weaknesses:

None

Posted Jun 16, 2006 - Really displays the XBox 360 graphics potential to the fullest, provided you have a projector or suitably high-resolution TV to support it. The emphasis is on action---lots of shootouts---and the pacing is excellent. Many games in this genre prove to be too short, but this one took quite a long time for my kids to finish. Some of the extras that come in the Collector's Edition are lame (trading card? What good is that?), but some are fun, like the downloadable HUD menu screens. Multiplayer looks fun but haven't tried it yet. Paid about thirty bucks for this on sale, really felt like we got our money's worth.

3 Star Review Not Zero, but Not Perfect

Strengths:

Graphics

Weaknesses:

Level design

Posted May 31, 2006 - One would think that glowing guides on the floor that direct you to your next objective would make a game too easy, but that is not the case here. While one could praise the developer for offering more than one path of entry into certain areas, this sometimes makes a level too open for its own good, allowing the player to get lost. The guides attempt to alleviate this problem, but their rate of pulsing is too slow to really be able to rely on them for guidance. The graphics are stunning, but the art direction is sort of "blah." Character models aren't very appealing, and everything else just looks very generic. Very pretty generic, but generic nonetheless. There is a wealth of multiplayer modes including traditional deathmatch modes, CTF, and objective-based team modes. I'm not a great fan of multiplayer, but what's included really elevates the package from the rather mediocre standard set by the single-player campaign. The only real selling point for the Limited Edition version is the brilliant collector's case, whose artwork actually functions beautifully whichever way the player selects to use as the "front" within the printed clear slipcover. You get a few bonus "gamerpics," concept art, and a chapter from the upcoming Perfect Dark novel, but there is disappointingly no behind-the-scenes featurettes.

4 Star Review Not so Perfect Dark

Strengths:

Fantastic single player mode, nice graphics

Weaknesses:

What happened to the cheats?! Level design is weaker than the original. Story line is weak overall.

Posted Apr 30, 2006 - The original Perfect Dark is one of my favorite games and this sequel, on a more powerful console several years later is a little disappointing. A lot of the features from the original PD are M.I.A. and the horrible story won't win many people over. But with that said I had a blast playing through the 1p game, where the levels were intense and required a fair amount of skill. It is just too bad the cheat system from the original is gone. The multi player game is fantastic but always suffers from missing features and weapons.

3 Star Review A Fun, But Flawed Game

Strengths:

+Great Multiplayer +Lots of cool weapons +Jetpacks are Fun

Weaknesses:

-Graphics look last-gen -Terrible story and voice acting -Single player is horrible

Posted Mar 27, 2006 - The long awaited prequel to the fantastic N64 FPS has finally hit the market. Unfortunately, the final product has proved to be significantly less than the sum of its parts. While the online multiplayer does rival Halo in terms of pure adrenaline-pumping fun, the rest of the package is lacking. AI, story, graphics, single-player, all seem unfinished. This is odd for a game that has been in development limbo for years! Overall, a decent launch title, but not much more. 3/5 Stars

5 Star Review PDZ LE

Strengths:

Gameplay, Graphics, COOP MODE

Weaknesses:

A few bugs here and there but nothing bad

Posted Mar 14, 2006 - This game was spectacular, I put about 100 hours into it. The hardest difficulties are HARD and the easiest ones are EASY. Graphics were cartoony, like you'd expect from rare, and online play was GREAT! The best part was 2 player split screen coop mode in the missions. They changed the missions a bit to make them fun for 2 people to play on the same box. Awesome idea, every game should do this.

4 Star Review Perfect Dark Zero LE

Strengths:

Game play, soundtrack, multiplayer

Weaknesses:

Voice-acting, storyline, single-player

Posted Feb 2, 2006 - Perfect Dark Zero (LE) is a great launch title for the Xbox 360. Many have compared this game to Halo: Combat Evolved for the original Xbox as the must-have game for the new 360. While PDZ is a great game, there are some flaws that keep it from reaching perfection. PDZ’s game play is solid. The game runs smoothly and some of the action sequences are phenomenal. The game also contains a wide-selection of weapon choices to choose from, each with multiple functions (such as a silencer on pistols). The soundtrack is also great, exhibiting a variety of songs specific to the on-screen action (such as club music with throbbing bass when you enter a bar/dance club). The games greatest feature is the multiplayer. Of course, the game has a standard split-screen for head-to-head and co-op action on one television. But also, the game offers a co-op mode over Xbox Live. Also, there are other numerous online modes like deathmatch and capture the flag, as well as a Dark Ops mission based online mode, where you can play games such as infected (one side is infected and tries to infect the other side) and sabotage (one side tries to blow up an area and one tries to defend it). The voice-acting and storyline of the game are weak and remind me of a horrible B-movie. The single-player is decent, but not even close to how well the multiplayer is. Overall, the game is exceptional and I would highly recommend it.

5 Star Review One of the best launch titles

Strengths:

Fun gameplay, great graphics and sound, lots of weapons, great multiplayer

Weaknesses:

Weak story, some annoying gameplay objectives, unrealistically attentive AI

Posted Jan 20, 2006 - Overall, Perfect Dark Zero is an excellent game. The gameplay is smooth and overall an entertaining experience. The graphics are crisp and polished and looks as good as I'd expect a next-gen game to look. The weapon variety is there too, with several weapons for every situation, and each one giving 2 and sometimes 3 different functions, giving you lots of options to play around with. Online play is extremely fun with up to 32 players battling it out. The flaws of the game are minor. The story seems kind of thrown together, but it matters little once you actually get in and take control. The only issue I found was that it's rather difficult to be stealthy, even though many missions encourage you to be. The AI seems to be able to detect you rather easily in most situations, no matter how quiet, concealed, or far away you think you are. This can create some rather sticky situations that could cause an unnecessary death and an aggravating trek all the back to the last checkpoint, which are few and far between. As for the Limited Edition vs. the regular, I can say I'm glad I got the LE. If you bought the Halo 2 LE, expect more of the same, and then some. The case is downright beautiful, and the bonus themes, icons, and featurettes are a great addition, especially for fans of the N64 version.

4 Star Review Best Multiplayer Shooter to date!

Strengths:

Shiny next gen graphic! Amazing Multipalyer online gaming!

Weaknesses:

Weak single player story mode, game pace is slow through parts of the game.

Posted Jan 20, 2006 - Perfect dark Zero was a lanuch titled for the XBOX 360, and which many gamer label the Halo 2 killer. Well sad to break the news to some folks, it's not. the game is still great game. it is just flawed in some area. where single player mode is cursed w/ crappy level design & dumb AI. the multiplayer makes up for all that w/ up to 32 player online matching making. intense action. pros: the graphic are nice, and on a HD TV at 720P! it just looks unreal. amazing light effect! maybe more so! still some part of the game the graphic just looks too plain & cheap! Cons: Sorry single player mode! Rip off Collector bonus content! Multiplayer is fun, but Halo 2 is still King of the genre 4 OUTTA 5 STARS

4 Star Review Not Halo 2

Strengths:

Great sound

Weaknesses:

Expected better graphics, can't jump, not Halo 2

Posted Jan 15, 2006 - I was really expecting PDZ to blow me away in every aspect. The sound is very good, however I was expecting the graphics to look much more like when the game first starts and the pan out from the characters face. The detail of clip in the beginning of the game is amazing! I can’t stand not being able to jump, I like every part of Halo 2, and this game is a little slower then Halo 2.
