5 Star Review One of the best (If not best) Racing games I have ever played

Strengths:

In Car View is amazing, Very detailed levels and car models with amazing graphics reflection and lighting effects, Refined and balanced racing system, Fun online racing/ranking system and matching

Weaknesses:

Could have used more Locales, People may give you negative feedback just for winning races, Might not have enough customizeability for some people.

Posted Nov 30, 2005 - Let me start first off by saying that I'm not a hardcore racing game fan. However I have played a decent share of racing games from Forza and GT4 to Burnout and NFS. I never passed many of the courses on all of the above games and probably the racing game i've played the most is Need For Speed Hot Pursuit. The most noticeable at first and one of the most amazing parts about this game are the graphics. The levels are amazingly detailed and accurate. This is probably one of the reasons why for the limited locales in the game. Each locale has a decent amount of tracks but of course it never hurts to have more locales to make things more interesting. I took the time to slowly cruise through the Shinjuku tour level and I found everything from the hotel I stayed at to the KFC just a ways down as well as some popular stores like Big Camera. It's amazing how much detail they put into the game. However when you're racing you'll probably never notice these things. The cars may appear to shiny to some but I think that's fine since thats when exotic cars look their best. It is missing some of the grittier visuals that make the GT games a bit more photo realistic, but in it's own way PGR3 exceeds GT in realism. Especially in the world reflection on the cars and the incredible lighting effects. The lighting effects are best in the in-car view camera. This is where the graphical improvement really enhances the quality and gameplay of the game. The in car view itself makes the game more than twice as immersing as any other racing game. The dashboard details have been modeled just as well as the exterior of the cars and brings forth a whole new experience you cannot get from any other racing game. The lighting effects and reflection effects are especially noticeable when you exit a tunnel or the way the front windshield looks at night or in bright sunlight. It is definitely something any racing game fan should look forward to and something everyone should try for themselves. The gameplay is quite similar to PGR2 with some physics effects from Forza. For example you can pit other cars by nudging their rear. The Kudos system from PGR2 is back and the game has a more arcadey feel to it than Forza or the GT games. Of course this is not necessarily a bad thing (especially for the more casual racing game fan like me). Many of my friends have been turned off by Forza because it's way too hard for them to control the cars. In my opinion PGR3 offers a good median in realistic physics and forgiveness that make it an especially enjoyable experience (even more so online). The songs in the game might not be for everyone but the game really has a varied soundtrack from classical music to all sorts of International music. It's really an interesting experience to be driving in Shinjuku in you Ferrari Enzo listening to some crazy Indian music. In addition to the great soundtrack you can use your own songs off your network or simply plug in any mp3 player and stream them off there. The whole interaction with the Xbox blade dashboard is amazing. It may not sound like much, but being able to simply plug in my Ipod, just like I do in my real car, adds to the whole experience in ways no other racing game has done. Even though this has not been the first racing game to use in car views, it has simply done it the best. And the inclusion of the in car view has been long absent in racing games since the old NFS games for the PC. There is little for any racing fan here to hate with some amazing exotic cars in the lineup, amazing graphics, and fun online play. I realize that some people prefer their games with more tweaking like the GT games but I personally don't like to get too technical with my racing games. Even so I'm confident those fans could find PGR3 at the very least a fun game. I recommend this game to all racing game fans. I even think this game could turn some people into racing game fans.

4 Star Review Consider it a photography booster pack

Strengths:

Photography modes; all cars are speedy; detailed in-car view

Weaknesses:

At first glance looks just like PGR2

Posted May 31, 2006 - Project Gotham Racing 3's tagline is that "life begins at 170MPH." If the car cannot reach that speed, it's not included in the mix, so no longer do you have to work your way up from lowly Beetles and Civics. The graphics are upgraded, for sure, but only if you know what to look for. Otherwise, the game looks pretty much like PGR2. This is during races and replays. However, if you switch to photography mode (or walk around your garages), you get a major boost in realism with full ability to adjust all sorts of manual camera features and ability to walk all around the car and track. It's unfortunate there's no way to get these beautiful photos off of the console and onto a computer ala Gran Turismo 4's photography mode. At least PGR3's is more flexible, allowing you take photos from any saved replay and not having a sort of posed "model shoot" as in Sony's game. The best showcase of added graphical fidelity is the in-car mode. Believe it or not, but the designers dedicated the same amount of polygonal detail to modeling the interior of the cars as the exterior. It's fun to drive around in this mode, but the head doesn't face into a corner as ideally as possible, and you have to use the car's actual gauges behind the wheel on the dashboard, which are incredibly hard to see during the heat of a race. Gameplay control and career structure offer no real changes from the prior version. You're still required to play through several levels of races, passing challenges, time trials, and cone challenges in increasingly complex cars. Fortunately you can make these challenges as easy or as difficult as you want, though your reward adjusts accordingly. It feels, though, that money is not an issue, and you will outgrow your garages very easily as you rapidly expand your collection.

5 Star Review Microsoft Project Gotham Racing 3

Strengths:

The graphics are incredible; great racing physics; integrated online play.

Weaknesses:

The car selection is limited to high-end; awkwardness with the same system multiplayer.

Posted Feb 22, 2006 - If you have an Xbox 360, Project Gotham Racing 3 is a must own title. Xbox Live and the next-generation visuals are what will appeal to most hardcore gamers, while the exotic stable of cars and easy to get into gameplay will hook the casuals. Single player experience is a bit shorter than expected, but the unlockables, additional modes, and Xbox Live make up for it. Either way it's worth your hard-earned $50.

4 Star Review beautiful game, great racer

Strengths:

tight controls, great graphics, lots to unlock

Weaknesses:

unless you're really addicted to racing games, you might find the game to get boring after some heavy playing

Posted Jun 18, 2006 - Project Gotham Racing 3 is a great racing game with some wonderfully done graphics. The sense of realism in the game can be overwhelming on high definition tvs. Taking on your friends or strangers via xbox live really extends the replay value, and it's fun to see how differently human-controlled cars behave compared to the computer. There are multiple difficulty levels and as you reach the higher settings, you might find yourself banging your head against walls in frustration as you get beaten yet again, but the game nevertheless remains fun.

5 Star Review Amazing graphic effect

Strengths:

Beautiful graphic, very smooth.

Weaknesses:

Posted Apr 5, 2006 - I love car racing games. I own project gotham 1 & 2. Now I have 3 for xbox 360. I love all of them. Because I love driving in the cities better than off course. The 3rd gotham is even better than the previous two. I have more options on vehicles. I think I will keep playing the game and beat it eventually.

5 Star Review Beautiful Racing

Strengths:

Incredible cars and great sound.

Weaknesses:

N/A

Posted Mar 28, 2006 - This is definitely the best looking racing game that I've played. On a high definition TV, the cars look real with all of the smooth lighting and effects. The sound of the cars is great, too. This feels a lot like a simulation but doesn't have all of the super tight physics and details that games like Forza Motorsport have. Some may like the arcade feel better, some may not.

5 Star Review Spectacularly amazing!

Strengths:

N/A

Weaknesses:

Posted Feb 7, 2006 - I am a huge fan of the PGR series and before PGR I was a fan of Grand Turismo. I have played all of the GT series of games and all of the PGR series of games and Forza. I played this on a 1080i CRT HDTV and on a projector using VGA input, and on both it looked stunningly crisp. This one is most definitely the best I have ever played. It is different from PGR2 and to me feels completely different but a good different. The in car view is amazing with most notably the realistic driver movements and the reflections and fragments on the windscreen. It is a realistic racing game, so you probably won’t just pick up a controller and power slide around a corner. The automatic transmission is less forgiving in PGR3 as compared to PGR2. I like this because I enjoy the extra challenge of the manual transmission and this defiantly gives the manual transmission the advantage. Your car can receive damage such as dents and broken glass but that is all, the damage to doesn’t affect the way the car performs. I am very pleased with the selection of super cars though I do miss the not so high end cars. The new tracks are amazing including such cities as New York, Las Vegas, London, and of course Nürburgring. Excellent game and a must have for anyone who is a fan of racing simulation titles.

5 Star Review IN DEPTH AND AWESOME

Strengths:

Length on the game, depth of the game, incredible graphics!!

Weaknesses:

Posted Jan 29, 2006 - Sit back and enjoy the ride. This is by far one of the best racing games that I have ever played. The selection of cars and the way that they handle are top notch. They have really gone above and beyond to offer several different races and types of achievements that upon their completion will uncover a slew of additional tracks, cars and missions. Then after that you still have the ability to go online and compete with your comrades. Be careful with the intensity that comes with online play..... be prepared!! You will spend countless hours trying to complete all of the games achievements. Well worth it though. Replay value is extremely strong. Have fun!!!

4 Star Review PGR 3 is amazing

Strengths:

Great graphics, tracks are exceptional, the create a track feature really adds something to the overall value of this game. the in car view is awesome.

Weaknesses:

Could benefit from inclusion of ability to use after-market modifications to cars and more cars in general.

Posted Jan 29, 2006 - This was the first game I purchased for the Xbox 360. I was simply blown away by the graphics. Also xbox live for this game is great. It is definitely a must have if you like racing games and own a 360. I don't like the overall gameplay as much as Burnout but it is still very good.

HD TV is a must for this game to see every little effect! Ultra fun online play! Cons: Career mode is short, car can't be modded like other game in this genre, ingame soundtrack is kinda weak! there isn't enough cars compared to other games. 4 OUTTA 5 STARS
