5 Star Review A great cables!

Strengths:

The quality of the cable is great.

Weaknesses:

None

Posted Apr 5, 2007 - One feature that hasn't been mentioned much is the cable shielding - you can turn the volume up all the way on your tv, and you won't hear any extra noise from EMF. Also, make sure you check your xbox settings once you've plugged this in; once you connect a high-def adapter, you will have new options under Display Settings for choosing HD capabilites. Make sure you at least give yourself the option of 480p and 720p, otherwise there isn't that much difference.

Strengths:

If you have a system (TV,Projector) that can accept Component Video, it is well worth the money!

Weaknesses:

None seen.

Posted Mar 21, 2005 - If your system can accept the Component Video input from the Xbox, it is well worth it. The images are much more clear with a lot bolder colors. In conjunction with the GameLink 400x (Video Cable) I would highly recommend the Fiber Optic cable (can't remember name/model of it) for the audio if you have a system that can accept a Fiber Optic Audio source and has Surround Sound capabilities. The sound improvement is incredible!! It allows Xbox to transmit in Dolby Digital Surround Sound, which is an amazing improvement. Before you can get the Fiber Optic Audio cable, you must have the GameLink 400x Video cable. The Audio cable actually plugs into the Video cable, which plugs into the back of the Xbox. If you already have the Audio and Video equipment that can handle the Digital Video and Sound, I would highly recommend purchasing these cables!

Strengths:

Give an excellent picture with no shadows or ghosts

Weaknesses:

You must purchase the specified optical digital cable separate if you want digital surround sound. The analog stereo cables do not separate from component cables and will not reach a receiver.

Posted Jan 24, 2005 - Looks and sounds great. Only flaw is that you cannot hook up to a receiver with the analog stereo cables unless it has a component input, since they do not separate from the component video cables. Not a big deal since most will probably want to get the optical digital cable in order to get digital sound for games and dvd playback.

5 Star Review Great Quality HD cable, not worth it for only games

Strengths:

Provides great quality HD output for your xbox

Weaknesses:

Probably not useful if you don't have homebrew programs on your box

Posted Jul 2, 2006 - This product coupled with XBMC turns your xbox into an HD up-converting DVD player for a fraction of the price of market ones. While the up-converting works very well with nearly all DVDs and most internet video files, the xbox itself is not capable of playing true HD resolution content. The processor is too weak to support full resolution HD. While this seems like a fairly large downside, there are no actual native HD media feeds yet other than the online HD demos or those found on bluray or HD DVDs (which the xbox could never play anyway). The quality looks stunning on my 30 inch sony xbr and i would recommend this to anyone with XBMC (homebrew software) and an HDTV. That being said, if you don't have a homebrew setup and only play games, i would not recommend it as the graphical differences in games is small to none.

4 Star Review great price, works perfect

Strengths:

perfect 720p and 1080i signal

Weaknesses:

hard as heck to plug in

Posted Jan 14, 2008 - This is the second set of GameLink Xbox component cables I have bought. I just purchased another used Xbox for my bedroom for multimedia purposes, so of course I needed the higher quality display. I almost forgot how much of a difference there was between the stock video cables and component cables, but believe me, there is a huge difference. The first time around these cables cost me over $50, but thanks to pricegrabber, I managed to snag them for under $20 this time. These cables work absolutely perfect and I would recommend them to anyone at this price. The only issue I've had with these cables is that they're incredibly hard to install. The individual plugs are so tight that it's frustrating and almost painful. I eventually had to use some needle nose pliers to help me out in fear of breaking my thumb. I know the tightness probably helps with the secure connection, but it's pretty ridiculous. On my first set, I actually called Monster tech support thinking the plugs were out of spec. Anyway, once they're installed, they work great. I don't think I'm ever going to remove them though, in fear of having to plug them in again.

4 Star Review xbox component cable

Strengths:

length, build, optical connector

Weaknesses:

none

Posted Dec 28, 2007 - this is an excellent cable to use the original xbox console on a hi-definition tv. it has excellent build quality and is light weight too. the cable is long and has a optical audio output plug to connect to a receiver. works great and makes the xbox look much nicer in hi-def.

5 Star Review HD for the Original XBox

Strengths:

Breathes new life to your Original XBox games with HD resolution (i.e. 720p, 1080i).

Weaknesses:

VERY tight fit! Use extreme care when connecting the cable to the Component Video Inputs of your TV.

Posted Oct 23, 2007 - If you're a proud owner of a new HDTV but haven't yet jumped on the XBOX 360 bandwagon, the Monster Cable GameLink 400 will keep you satisfied until you do. After you connect the cable and change the Display Settings on your original XBox (i.e. 720p, 1080i), you'll benefit from clear and crisp picture quality. However, be very careful when installing this cable. The plugs are extremely tight. I actually had to use pliers to bend (and at times break off) some of the individual plug's "teeth" in order for me to connect it to the Component Video inputs, for fear of damaging my new (and expensive!) LCD HDTV.

5 Star Review As Good As It Gets

Strengths:

Excellent build construction, absolutely clear signal with no interference, almost all Xbox games support at least 480p

Weaknesses:

Requires Monster's proprietary adaptor, video connectors can be a snug fit, most games don't support above 480p

Posted Feb 28, 2007 - This is objectively, the best cable you can get for video on the original Xbox. The image is absolutely clear, no flicker, no interference, sharp, vivid colors. All Xbox games support 480p natively (which sounds lame until you see almost no PS2 games support progressive scan at all). This cable is fairly cheap on ebay and available, so there's no debate about which cable to get. The only drawbacks are if you want digital audio, you have to buy Monster's cable, as this set requires the proprietary connector that comes with it. Additionally, the video connectors are VERY snug. You don't want to be removing and connecting them all the time. Lastly, very few games support 720p, and almost none support 1080i. As a side note, the analog audio connects won't reach to a dedicated audio system, so if you want surround sound, you have to buy Monster's cable. Regardless, it's very cheap nowadays and is worth it for the flicker-free, sharp images alone.

5 Star Review Does what it should - High Definition output for original XBOX

Strengths:

Made by Monster Cable; Long length - 10 ft.

Weaknesses:

RCA Audio connections must be close to Video connections

Posted Jan 13, 2007 - I purchased this cable because I needed to get High Definition output from my original XBOX to my new Panasonic 42" HDTV. The Microsoft cable is practically impossible to find without paying more than this cable. The Monster Cable quality is clear in this product. My 720p XBOX games look awesome on my HDTV. This cable is also pricey, so I recommend finding the lowest price you can. My one complaint is that I cannot plug the component video into the TV and the audio into my stereo because they cannot be split apart. If you have optical audio in your A/V receiver, this cable can handle that (which would solve my weakness).

5 Star Review Another Great Product By Monster Cable

Strengths:

Excellent Picture Quality

Weaknesses:

None yet.

Posted Mar 6, 2006 - This allows me to play my xbox games at 720p/1080i. I notice the level of details in my game more clearly and the dvd movies look nice also. I was using MX300 (Xbox Monster Cable with S-Video) before, it was better than using generic xbox cables and the picture quality was definitely better. However with the purchase of a new HD-Ready LCD, an upgrade to MX-400 was definitely worthwhile. I plan on purchasing MX-100 for Digital Audio, once I have a set of speakers or receiver that can handle that. Monster Rules ! Great product for 30.00 UPDATE: I now have MX-100 for Digital Audio and using it to connect to Logitech Z5500. B-E-A-UTIFUL.
