Strengths:Nice graphics, spoken dialogue, pretty straightforward puzzles. Cool cinematic cutscenes.
Weaknesses:Point and click control too sensitive with controller, too many "invisible" walls, icon "hotspots" not always easy to point to with, may be too slow for those not into graphic adventures.
Posted Aug 2, 2005 - This is a definite throwback to the good point and click graphic adventure games of Lucasarts and Monkey Island. If you're into those kind of games, you know exactly what to expect, lots of dialogue, lots of reading clues, lots of "find the part" puzzles. If you're don't like the graphic adventure games of old, then this one won't change your mind, as there is no action and slow pace as typical of graphic adventures. The plot and story are interesting and the automotons are cool.
The major flaw in the game is that as a point and click adventure, they are intended for the computer so the mouse is best and really speeds things up to find the "hotspot" icons. Instead the controller is used to move the character herself, which is tough as sometimes you can't quite point exactly at the icon you want so instead go somewhere else so you you have to back up, do it again. Happens a lot. Also exploration is not too free roaming as the backgrounds are mostly prerendered so you may see what looks like a path, but your character will run into the dreaded "invisible" wall. Sometimes to get to a next screen you have to be at just the right spot... even though the path is open, you have to be at just the right part of the screen or else, "invisible" wall! Again, this game would work best with a mouse so these issues wouldn't be as noticable as they are with the controller.
But really, the game is very atmospheric, (not great but) decent spoken dialogue, very pretty nature scenes, puzzles that seem at first illogical but then make sense with nothing that's mind pounding difficult, and the game is very linear. A transitional "solution" track plays when you solve a major puzzle so its nice to get the encouragement.
So a nice mellow game for those with the time and curiousity. Not for the impatient or action starved, you will get frustrated/annoyed with some of the puzzles.
